Tak. Vs Hasbro - Commmemerative Soundwave... Was the Original this cheap ?
Hello all,
I bought Commemorative Soundwave today from TRU. Well I noticed he was a bit light, but no worries. Ok first transformation (And I am careful owning hundreds of tf though my youth and never breaking one) His leg pops out. I am still trying to get it back in. I then noticed the plastic. It seemed lighter than the Original Soundwave. It was also stressed and white in a couple of places, and there was mold flashing everywhere.
Now my questions are this..
1. Was the original wave this light and flimsy and I don't remember ?
2. Is this Hasbro just using cheaper plastic ?
3. Are the Takara reissues like TF Collection and Encore better quality in materials ?
Thanks for the help

I don't have my original Soundwave to compare against, but other than Re-issue's waist/leg joints being a bit wobbly, mine has no real problems.
Although, it is possible they used cheaper plastics on it vs the original.

So what do you guys think, will I get a more durable product buying Takara products vs. Hasbro ones ?

It's a 50/50 shot.I've bought most of the Takars reissue ans all the US ones and I can say I've had my issue with both.

I think Takara stopped making toys in Japan in 1986. They moved that to Macau, then to China in the early 90's.

I had the same thing happen to me, but with Jazz and Optimus Prime. I have Megatron, Starscream, and Tracks reissues from Takara. Rock solid. OP and Jazz from Hasbro, flimsy and cheap. Not at all like the originals.

I have the reissue that came out in the Stylish Dreamwave art boxes, the commerative collections...that one is heavy and rock solid, plus his laserbeak is very tight jointed as well, which is nice for posing in mid transformation...

All the original TFs were of better quality. Made in Japan vs Made in China. No comparison IMHO.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

you may wanna compare it to Soundblaster seeing as that the TRU reissue used his mold, not Soundwaves.Though I imagine that if the original Soundwave is heavier than the TRU, the Soundblaster is probably even heavier. MAYBE...

All I know is that its a pretty cheap plastic. It strains easily and is FULL of flash. Also moving the joints and the seams start to separate.

You've got a screwed-up one, it seems. I haven't owned an original Soundwave, but I was a bit surprised at how light the reissue felt. However, he's been rock-solid, no problems with loose legs or stressed plastic here.
It also helps if you know how to transform it.
