MP-05 Megatron. Classics Megatron. Encore Megatron. These all turn into a gun.
I don't own MP-05, but c'mon ... look at the galleries. He rules! Best looking Megatron I've ever seen.
Classics Megs is a bit toyish looking, but he's quite awesome and very well built. I own him.
Encore megs ... eh, stupid looking robot mode, but he is exactly like the original G1 figure. I own this as well.
As far as the movie line ... he sucks in all classes.

Best gun would have to be the Masterpiece.
Best jet, I'd go for Superlink Galvatron (Megatron in Energon) or Energon Galvatron if you wanted it in purple (nicer colours than Superlink Galvatron General, but that's a tough call because it just seems a more playable toy at the original Japanese size rather than the blown up Western version).

The Voyager Classics Megatron is definitely worth a look, if you can find him.
And I also think that the Movie Voyager Megatron is pretty good as well.

I've only got Classics Megatron (Voyager class) and Leader Movie Megs. Of the two I'd definitely recommend the Classics. He does look a little NERF-ish, but you could always repaint him if you don't like his original colors. He's also very poseable and has one of my favorite transformations.
Other than sheer size, there really isn't anything too great about the Movie leader class Megs, IMO. He's limited in articulation so he's not too play-worthy, in addition to the fact that his alt mode is perhaps the worst of any TFs I own, and he's inaccurately painted. However, some repaints I've seen of this version look quite good too. Just my $.02.

Buy Leader movie Megs, then repaint him! Awesomeness shoots up after that.

Yeah, G2 Megatron is not bad and he's fun to play with. I like the laser sound when his left arm is raised and the lock-and-load sound with his gun.

Nerf-megatron (classics) rules but thats because i like nerf guns. (i have the one he resembles, the nerf maverick and its awesome, had a right laugh at uni with it.) so the design doesn't phase me.
so i'd say get that. (classics megatron)

I also have G1 megs and MP megs. G1 is better than i thought, i keep his legs quite close together so that it looks in proportion to the rest of the body. also nice.
MP megs is good but the legs are a little skinny. looks like a wimp when standing next to prime but to be able to pull off an anime accurate bot mode and turn into a gun, its pretty amazing. arm cannon unbalances it though.

G1 or Masterpiece. Nothing can beat the originals.
If you like non-transforming figures, Revoltech Megs isn't half bad as far as I saw it.

I have the Galvatron version of the mold, but its only a colour change. great mold, great figure, annoying SFX...
But since you said Jet or Gun...
Gun: Classics Megatron, is an absolute hoot, great transformation, and lots of fun in both modes. He really feels like a Megatron toy.
Jet: Energon. Glavatron once again has the cooler paint scheme, but the alt mode is sweet. Really wish I had the full size version, not the 3/4 size one that came with a Deluxe sized Fattimus Prime.

Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Wait, so is the Japanese Superlink Galvatron General smaller in size than the US Energon Galvatron? I'm confused....
