Trademark reasons. Hasbro can't get the rights to the name "Jazz" for it's merchandise because it's deemed too generic, so Hasbro uses "Autobot Jazz" instead. Other names share the same fate.

I've read that that is the exact same reason how come "Ravage" was turned into "Battle Ravage". The name was too generic to trademark now.

Thats stupid. There are plenty of franchises that have names that aren't any more unique than "Jazz".

I think Honda and it calling a car "Jazz" also had something to do with it in some markets...
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Hasbro decided to name him that. Ratchet... I mean Autobot Ratchet is named that way too.

I dont think it's because it is too 'generic', as the name Jazz isnt deemed too generic for the Honda of that name. More likly is that there is some other toy that has already trademarked the name 'Jazz'.

Dosnt the reissue of G1 Jazz also go by the name 'Autobot Jazz' (which I'm reasonably sure predates the Honda Jazz)?

Im not entirly sure that is the case, because the Ravage alt that turns into a puma is just called 'Ravage' (unless inbetween the two toys Hasbro managed to secure the name, which is of course possible). I was under the impression that Battle Ravage was called that becuase he was actully based more on the BW character (which was called Battle Ravage)(at least going by thew Binaltech story).
Of course I may be wrong on that.

Yes it did. The "Honda Jazz" reason is actually why the Alternator was called "Meister" instead of "Autobot Jazz"

Sorry, same reason as Jazz as far as I know. Remember Energon Battle Ravage? The Alternator was named after him

Does it really matter? Autobot is simply a faction designation. Hasbro uses it here to trademark the name.
No, it doesn't, Takara did use Battle Ravage as being the Ravage of the Beast Wars timeline. Hasbro, may have simply brought the name over here to side step trademark issues, but since Hasbro has never offered any official story for the Alternators, Battle Ravage may in fact still be BW Ravage in some assumed manner.
After all, the Jaguar Ravage is simply Ravage.

No no, Takara and Hasbro do not share trademarks. We're talking names here
