I shall reveal my opinions on the Botcon pics of upcoming toys, much to all of your excitement.

Now while the new RH's, Classics and 25 Anni. Prime got me so excited I accidently punched my boss and set fire to his car, I have two gripes. First, still no RH Blaster. ARGH! I deserve to be an RH you asshats! And I finally get a Classics figure....

...AND IT'S A REPAINT OF CYBERTRON SOUNDWAVE! ARGH! I'M MY OWN BOT DAMNIT! BY PRIMUS' GOLDEN CROTCH, I DESERVE BETTER! Of ALL the figures, I get stuck as a poopy repaint of that one. I'm not an alien stealth bomber thing. I'm a rocker. A metal head. I deserve my own mould as a monster truck or muscle car or something manly and metal like that. You have no idea the anger flowing through me right now. I'm serious. If you were to slit my throat right now, you'd get shot in the eye with boiling blood.

I need a drink.

Blaster does need some love, the repaint isnt cutting it.

Monster truck is a cool idea, I like the blaster reprolabels for the alternators scion mold as well.

maybe in 2009 he will get a mold.

This is so contrary to the people who were griping for a Blaster and argued that the Soundwave repaint would be perfect for it.

They didn't even change the head sculpt...I would have far preferred a Blaster that was a monster truck or muscle car as well(perhaps an old school Firebird or Camaro?) The colors aren't very true to form either. At least Takara had the decency to make a reissue...

While I really like Cybertron Soundwave, I think he looks awful repainted in Blaster colors. I'm not sure what his updated alt mode needs to be, but surely there is something better than this.

Yeah I too was let down by the Red Soundwave repaint - I'd hate to see Blaster fall into a repaint patern like that which has befallen Ultra Magnus(White Prime Syndrome).

A head remold and a new bombicon would have made that figure a buy for alot of people.

The thing is though, Soundwave and Blaster are both character's stuck in limbo, made obselete by time - no one knows what a tapedeck is these days and haven't owned or understood the term "Ghetto Blaster" since the early nineties and because an appropriete new alt mode has yet to be found these guys will remain in limbo as characters.

I've always felt military communications verhicles would suit, y'know those spy planes the US has, the one with the big disc on it's back? That would suit Soundwave, he could provide mobile radar jamming to Seekers units and carry little minions in a bomb bay.

Dunno of a modern fit for Blaster though :-?

I've had the same thought about Soundwave becoming an AWAC with his minions as his flight crew. I can see Blaster as one of those SUV's that complete in stereo competitions. Mayme some of his amps and speaker boxes could be minions.

...a van of a local (made up) rock/metal station. And my minions? The morning show crew/DJs of said station. I win, Soundwave. I fuggin' win.

I don't care how many people (and really, how many could that have truly been????)
said that a repainted Cybertron Soundwave would make a good Blaster.
To make that his CLASSICS entity is so bad, no amount of negative adjectives can describe it.
I mean, come on, there's already a lot of repaints in the line--
even a few of the new molds will produce repaints!!
Now I'm not complaining that we'll get a Ratchet from Ironhide, etc.
But Blaster deserved a great, NEW mold.
And yeah, with a kick-ass, rockin' alt mode.
Hell, make it so good that people would want future repaints of it!!
Imo, the fact that they released that horrid Dump Load at all, and it's an Ultra non the less, justified a new mold for Blaster.

I'd bet my next paycheck that if he would've been a new one,
NO ONE would've said,
"Whatta jip, they should've just used a Cybertron mold".
Especially with all of the potential an updated alt mode had...

I'm not a fan of Galv's being a Deluxe,
or of Dump Load or Powerglide at all,
but this wanna-be Blaster is the worst mistake of the Universe line so far.

My collecting tendencies have become increasingly completist of late. But sometimes you gotta draw the line. That Blaster repaint has gotta be one of the stupidest looking transformers in a long time.

Don't buy this crap. Demand better.

As said previously, if they had remolded the head and made a replacement for laserbeak, I would have been on board for this repaint of Blaster, but with no-remolding, I don't like it at all. I'll be voting that distaste with my wallet and not pick this one up (or that mixer repaint thing-I don't even like the Cybertron mold I have and they repaint it and give it a minor character?!? and I should buy it).

Also as mentioned, I hope Blaster doesn't become Soundwave's Magnus...

As far as tape decks being obsolete... Some of you may remember there were rumours that movie Barricade was going to be Soundwave. Although at first I didn't like the idea, this has kind of grown on me for a redo of Soundwave. I like how they did the guy in the chest gimmick (Frenzy), and I think it's suitable in a way for Soundwave. If you look at Barricade's function it's to gather information and he also has down the opportunist/blackmailing mentioned on his tech spec aspect with the police car's authority.

The ipod mode is kind of a natural evolution of a tape deck, but it might be better to stay away from the size changing and there's also no natural way to give him minions. I don't really like the headset as Frenzy/Rumble.

Of course other items could work too. I guess the important part of Soundwave is that he has some sort of minions and that distinctive style of head.

For me (no offence), Blaster is less iconic and I think it's harder to capture the character with just that style of head or his cassettes. Not even bothering to do the head or a new minion, though, and just trying a cheap repaint is about the worst they could do with doing a Blaster character.

Even if they had remolded the head and gave him a new minion I think I would still be out on this guy. Like I said before I like the Cybertron Soundwave, to me the concept of Soundwave as a stealth bomber works. The idea of Blaster as a stealth bomber does not, it doesn't fit his personality, and who ever heard of a red stealth bomber?

Even though I agree with the sentiment, I think a fairly decent Blaster could be produced from the Animated Soundwave mold. Of course a fresh head sculpt would make all the difference in the world.

If Hasbro HAD to do repaint, figure out something else.
Hell, I may have been more okay with that Soundwave mold being turned into an Insecticon (maybe).
They should've put Blaster on the back burner until something suitable and legit could be produced.

That stupid Dump Load is bad enough...

Really though, I’m just glad we’ve got something that’s supposed to be Blaster considering the fact he was one of the more forgotten G1 characters.

I have no issue with Soundwave and Blaster sharing a mold, as long as it is fitting for both of them. The Cybertron mold worked for SW, but does not do well for Blaster. The Animated mold might be a decent Blaster with minor tweaking.

Blaster - seriously, you really think that mold is the best option and only hope for a Blaster repaint? Better nothing at all than this.

As for Devastator. The day will come when they bring back modern, updated gestalts. Mark my words.

Yeah... Kinda like Classics was "dead" waaaaaaaaay back in '07.
There's no way there would've ever been another chance for another Blaster figure. EVER.
