Yeah, and the guy who's been making it hasbeen posting at Tfans and TFW2005. He's planning on revising it to take screws and rearranging the parts by color so he can actually produce more than a few and sell them.
Should be pretty durn sah-weet!

Yeah based on the auction this is from his first run of testshots as he's getting the final bugs out of the process before he does them in mass. Think he said they'll be going for somewhere around 200-250 assembled and painted I think. Which based on complexity and the quality he's putting in isn't to bad, These should be several steps about even RBS's Fembots.

He made it with a totally different style than any other kitbasher / scratchbuilder I've seen. He actually made 3d models of the individual parts and used a rapid prototype machine to make them.

Prime was never actually in the comic series, but there are concept drawings floating around, which is where this version came from

That is very nice. It's a shame the series itself sort of stunk. I was really hopeful after the first issue then..... bleh.

I remember this guy!
It's one of his first models, and I believe he's working on making the final thing(s) now!
I'd love to own that baby.

They did. Maybe one of the accessories for this figure is a nice, soft pillow.

Now that I think about it, Prime never looked like a train, they all had that Beast Wars look until Bumblebee woke up and changed his apperance to look like a train.

It'd be real cool if the guy sold the parts as a model kit, with all the screws and whatnot. Then you could build the transformer yourself!
I've always wanted to buy a transformer as a kit. I would just love to build, say, Masterpiece Prime from scratch, using parts provided by Hasbro!

I've actually wondered why someone hasn't come up with that idea yet. They make models of action figures, I believe there are even a few for Transformers, that you can assemble, but I always wondered why Hasbro or Takara never released a kit that allowed you to build a transformable model.

Because, strangly enough, it would cost more. They see normal profit as the standard of (0). They would save money in Asia buy not having to assemble it (+1) and that would become the new (0). But they'd lose most of the children and parents market (-1). So while not actually losing money they wouldn't be increasing profit so (0) is seen as (-1). They would then raise the prices to make a profit (+1) which on the shelf would mean a price tag of at least (+2 or higher). That price change would mean that less of us harder core fans would be buying it so they'd produce less and have to raise the price again to make a (new +1 or higher) profit. All of that happens before it idea gets pitched in the board room.
The less accessible (customer friendly) the product, the smaller the buying base, the higher the price. The cycle of price hikes and consumer base shrinking goes on until you end up with a super rare and super expensive model kit like they routinly get in Japan.
Has-blows.
