is it worth the price to buy mp-04 convoy?
since i already have the hasbro inferior orange prime which i hate, is it worth the money to buy takara's mp-04 with a trailer? the reason i ask is because i wanted my prime to be in its original color, RED. do you think it's completely a waste of money? btw my local toy store is out of mp-04, but they recently increase its price to $300 CDN dollars. i mean i don't mind having the trailer but i care about my red prime.
is 300 bucks a lot money to shell out for a toy that might have some body defect such as paint chippings, and loose arms, feet, and thighs.

300 is a hell of a lot. The Takara Prime is definately a must have. It blows away the DVD edition. No comparison really.
Howeer, if you are not interested in the trailer, just grab MP-01 for half the price. However, MP-04 is definately worth the original 180 that I got it from BBTS for. I'm not sure if they still have it. Would work out well for you as you can have the DVD prime pull the trailer while the real MP poses in bot mode. Definately grab the elongated smoke stacks though. t is an easy swap. Took me 5 min. and I am highly unskilled with my hands.

Should you get an MP-04? Yes. Its very awesome, and looks so much better in red than that very off putting orange. You even get a wicked trailer!
Should you pay $300 CDN? No way man, that is a total rip off. You try looking around ebay for one. You should be able to get one for $200 CDN. Shipping may be the only problem there, but if its being sold from america, it should cost that much.
Maybe speak to your toy store, and haggle with them. $300 is too much.

Did you buy the Hasbro Movie Prime before you knew it would be Orange... I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding why you bought something you actually hate so much.
Mp-04 and MP-01 are both great figures and as already pointed out the only difference is the addition of the trailer with MP-04. Not worth 300 dollars maybe but you should pick it up if you can find it for around 200.

yeah, i bought it online, and they show pictures of the figure in red, which is a total misrepresentation. i mean this toy is the cheapest among the 4 versions, the japanese ones are way too expensive, the hasbro version released 3 years ago skyrocket it 200 bucks cdn. but this orange prime cost only 100 bucks and it comes with a stand which i thought was pretty nifty. when i heard bright red, i thought the toy is not that bright of red which leads to orange.
now my only options are buy a mp-01 or just spray red paint on the damn figure. but i'm afraid to make the figure look worst than it use to. so what do you guys suggest?

dude you have mp-01, that's wicked, btw i'm sorry about using the words in bold. however my local store stop selling mp-01, but the mp-04. i'm deciding whether to buy it or not. but does the toy get a price cut in time or will the price just plume up in a few years later. cuz 300 bucks is alot to fork out for a toy these days. plus if i buy one on ebay i might get a dective one and won't get a exchange. but if i get one in store, there's a possibility to get an exchange for a better figure, plus there's some ebay scams circulating online. i just hope my local toy store will lower its price in couple of years, is that likely to occur?

I have MP-04 and would definitely recommend him. He is identical to MP-01 with the exception of the trailer and the different stickers on the communicator. The only thing is whether you want to pony up the extra $$$ for the trailer. Personally, I don't find much use for the trailer but still ended up getting MP-04 because it was on sale at BBTS for $159.99.
I've also noticed that MP-04 now goes over $200 on ebay. I'm not entirely sure if the inflated price is due to dwindling supplies or hype over the movie.

thanx for the advice, but recently i got the god awful medicore prime with sound base. the orange color just irrates or bugs me so bad whenever i start at it. the lack of chrome of shorten smokestacks make this one looks cheap. i have to say i'm a bit regret for not getting mp-04 at the time of its availability. they sell the thing for 250 bucks but now up to 300 bucks canadian. the reason i didn't get one because of its ridiculous price, its absurd for a toy to cost this much. so that's why i settle it for the dvd prime. i guess the stupid stand really got me from buying it. since i got the hasbro version, i mind as well thinking of buying prime with the correct color scheme:RED, and comes with a functional trailer. so it will not be identical to the one i got if i just buy the mp-01. plus i think they already discontinue releasing the toy anyway.

I've always been torn on this.
In one regard, the completist in me is driven nuts by not having the trailer.
The practical side of me, realizes that I will never display that trailer.
So, I had a hard time deciding to not buy MP-04. To me, buying it was like taking $200 and putting it in the closet to never be seen again.

unfortunately all the toy websites either all sold out their mp-04 figures or the price is just beyond expensive, a whopping 300 bucks US, not canadian, and i thought my local store charge it more, they also charge it 300 bucks but in canadian dollars, but they're all out at the moment. i didn't get one when they charge it 250 bucks, cuz still consider expensive at the time. now i just hope they will lower the price by christmas, cuz i'm planning to get one this x-mas. btw this is the only store in montreal that carries japanese import toys. DAMNN!!! so they can charge the price whatever they want!!!

Actually I'm not a big trailer nut either, but I do have this trailer displayed. I have it behind Prime standing up in it's repair bay mode (as opposed to battle deck), and trailer and Prime are taking on Masterpiece Megs.
It makes a nice background, diorama piece/playset for the larger figs.

i'm now officially a moron, considering that i bought the dvd prime last week at a independent toy store selling for 100 bucks canadian. but in the US toy'rus are selling it for 22.50 bucks!!! that's about 4x that i paid for!!! i wouldn't be that piss off if i bought it on release day. but i bought it last week!!! plus i sold most of my games just to get that crap!!! btw i ask several toyrus, walmart stores in Quebec, cuz that's where i live. apparently they're not allow to sell the toy because of the stupid language law. the base only has english audio option but not in french. just imagine what would it be like to have prime spoken in french? btw peter cullen was born in montreal, quebec. he should provide the english and the french spoken text for the toy. then i can get this toy in toys'rus for a low price!!! imagine i could have 4 primes, not 1, but 4 primes!!! and 4x the sound base can annoy me at the same time..

i officially hate and despise this toy for screwing me in the first place. wtf did i have to paid this piece of junk for so much. i mean it would be nice to have the mp-04, but the bastards at "toys on fire"(sometimes i really wish that their store is on fire...) won't lower their price, because they know you want it so bad and will refuse to lower it. i probably have to see after all the movie hype is gone, and they might have 5 or more boxes in stock that's hard to sell. the situation may forces them to lower the price. that's what happen to toys'rus, they're like selling primes for the cost of a piece of useless junk. i will just have to stay tune if any price would deduct. but apparently the clerk on the phone say it won't, but i say it WILL!!!![/code]
i will only buy mp-04 if the price is as low as $79.95- $99.95

Good Luck with finding MP-04 at that price. Personally, I cannot imagine the Takara pieces going down in value, if anything they will only continue to go up unless TakaraTomy decides to rerelease them.
Because of the price range, there's a far more likelihood that MP-01 will be rereleased than MP-04. Most online retailers are sold out of MP-04 and the other Masterpiece figures. MP-01 does fall in that price bracket though but supplies are also declining.
As for the Hasbro versions, the 20th Anniversary Prime has been climbing up in value on ebay. The only one that continues to remain stagnant are the DVD Editions.

i don't know how the market works on these toys, so you mean the dvd edition of prime will only goes down in price as the years go by? the reason the reissue of this toy is less valuable is it because they messed up with prime's color and other noticeable differences. i mean 300 bucks or more is a ridiculous price to pay for a toy, considering it's not a hard to find toy like the nintendo wii or if it's vintage toy, cuz it's a toy released last year. i don't care if it is expensive to import from japan, by charging a toy that high is a crime. i mean if i were to buy one, my parents will murder me if they found out how much it costs. i reckon there plenty of mp-04 in japan retail stores. so it's not a next big thing and a hard to find toy of the year. if anyone here live in japan, how many yen are they charging for mp-04, and convert it to Canadian dollars.
- Altertron
doubtful.. they just had it on clearance @ toysrus for 22 bucks.. you can find it at walmart.com or at thier stores for 60-70 american dollarinos

Unless TakaraTomy re-releases these figures (MP-01 & 04), the prices will never go down. The only other way I could see it ever happening, is if a small hobby/import store is having a clearance sale, or someone sells a used one in their collection.
If you see a good deal, jump on it, because it's likely you'll never see it again.
I learned this lesson with Galaxy Force Starscream.

has anyone gotten the hasbro version with the grey gun
add to my confusion there's a hasbro version of the optimus prime figure with the grey gun released a few years ago, no battle smudge prints. but a shorten smokestacks though.
so what that means hasbro has released this figure for the third time.

Just buy the 20th anniversary prime. He has Masterpiece quality paint, but has some battle damage scarring and short smoke stacks. The latter of which can easily be replaced and once they are, boom, you got an MP Prime with cool battle damage for less than half the price of a real MP Prime.
