Mystery part on G1 Groundshaker - What's it for?
I recently acquired a G1 Groundshaker, a figure I had as a kid and absolutely loved. After getting him in hand again I notice he has a sort of "C" clip bit on the back of the tank that would seem to imply that it was designed to connect to something else such as another Micromaster base or vehicle but for the life of me I can't figure out what it's for and haven't been able to find any info about it online. Does anyone know what the purpose of it is (or was if it was a gimmick that was abandoned but left in the mold's original tooling) assuming it's not just there as some sort of detail?

I'd say it's merely cosmetic, like Energon Rodimus' hitch. If it fits anything, it's purely coincidental.

Yeah, you're likely correct. It's just an odd detail to include as it doesn't look like a hitch and has specific tab-like things on the top and bottom of it as though it were meant to slot into something and have the round part go around a bar.

Abandoned feature? Was there some sort of connectivity between the micromaster bases?

Only via the included ramps.

Right, that was my guess as well. I was thinking perhaps that it was supposed to connect to another Micromaster base in vehicle mode, like maybe Countdown where he has that huge gap of nothing in the front of him. Groundshaker would look pretty good connected to that area, towing that rocket base along as part of him.
