i love the transformers live action movies but i hate their poor choice of characters to include since revenge of the fallen. WHY WONT THEY USE ALL THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS FROM THE ORIGINAL TEAM FIRST??? no problem with OP, Bumblbee, Sideswipe, Ratchet, Ironhide and Jetfire BUT JOLT could have been BLUESTREAK,the twin could have been HUFFER and GEARS, the WRECKERS could have been HOUND, MIRAGE and CLIFFJUMPER, THE BLUE MERCEDES should be wheeljack and the FERRARI atleast either be PROWL OR SUNSTREAKER. Waddya guys think?

If it's names that really matter to you, then you're never going to be pleased. Jetfire isn't even close to his G1 persona, nor is Sideswipe. If you called the twins, Huffer and Gears, people would be livid by taking two great G1 characters and turning them into morons. As much as I'd love to have every old character in the movies, It's pointless if they are going to look completely different from what they looked like in G1.

NONE of the characters in the movie that were based on the original team were close to being themselves, save for Optimus that even had its great differences. But what the movie did was, which i loved, took these characters (Optimus, Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Jazz, Sideswipe) and transformed them to different types (or stereotypes) based on their core characteristics in the series. During the G1, huffer and gears wer considered as the "misfits" or "comic relief" of the team SAME WITH THE TWINS. hound mirage and cliffjumper were considered as the brave warrior types SAME AS THE WRECKERS, bluestreak was really just a somewhat filler SAME AS JOLT. get what im saying?

I'm glad I got to see the new re-interpretations, even tho other G1 TFs got sidelined for it

was going to create a thread on which bay verse character has most destroyed the legacy of his g1 named counterpart

for me its jetfire, took a character who i always found noble and dignified and made him an albert steptoe travesty

Hmm...why not the original G1 characters first?
BECAUSE THIS ISN'T G1! This is a new continuity. Simple as that. RID Scourge wasn't the same character a G1 Scourge, was he?

How has the movie universe "destroyed the legacy" of the G1 characters? The legacies are still there. Again using the Scourge example: When Generations Scourge was announced, did everyone go "But Scourge is supposed to be an evil clone of Optimus"? No, most compared him to his G1 character. Again, this is a new continuity. This means the names can be applied to whoever the creators want them to...you know, get creative. It doesn't have to be a G1 throwback.

im aware that this is a new continuity, BUT THE CHARACTERS FROM THE ORIGINAL TEAM ARE STILL BASED, THOUGH LOOSELY, ON THEIR CHARACTERISTICS. and i agree with you that it has not destroyed the g1 charatcers. What the movie did was take these interesting characters, remolded them and made new interpretations of them, giving them a twist of reality and possibility. thats what im seeking, for them to make all the original team members (mirage, hound, trailbreaker, huffer, sunstreaker, brawn, cliffjumper, windcharger, prowl, etc.) a version of the movie FIRST as homages for those iconic characters. i dont know if you guys were born then, but the original team were really big icons then.

It's still a whole new thing. They have no obligation to bring back every single original character. I mean, I wasn't born in the 80's, but I do enjoy the original TV show (in fact it's the only one I enjoy watching) and all the old toys. I still think there is no need to keep going back to G1 for characters. I love all the old characters very much, and yes I would like to see them in the movies very much, but I will be equally pleased without them. They are part of G1 to me, but that doesn't mean they have to be a packaged deal for all TF continuities.

Simple answer...

This isn't G1. Instead of useing oringal team memebers they introduced part of the oringal team, and then brought in lesser known characters into the franchise. Personally, i think this was the smart thing to do. You don't want to use all the most well known characters right away. You need to spread them out over their respective universe.(in this case the movies) every movie has seem to brought in some well known characters, as well as some most have never heard of. Giving them some extra exposure.

Yes, i was born then and i remember them quite well. I would have loved to see Trailbreaker in there, but oh well. Whats done is done and there's no use in crying over spilled milk.

You are correct OptiMagnus10. This isn't a G1 throwback. The movie universe hasn't destroyed any "legacy". Its just easier for him to blame bay for everything.

The movieverse has taken some characters and built on there G1 personalites. No there not the same. There not meant to be. Many have this pre detirmened notion that everything should have G1 homage. Well i can understand some, but at some point, some orininality needs to come into play. A different take is needed to keep things fresh.

To equal out (not negate, but equal out) the it's not G1 defense:

*There's no confirmation it wasn't going to be a G1 movie.Things changed as events progressed.

*Some stuff that needed changes would have destroyed G1 immediately, even if it remained a G1 film: Soundwave & Megz Altmodes, VW Not wanting their Cars in the movie etc.

*The above would have risked ruining the movie if they weren't changed as well: Bumblebee=Herbie the love Bug goes troppo,Megz is a ww2 pistol, Soundwave isn't WiFi.

*Michael Bay is preconditioned to assume Transformers aren't popular and cool.He doesn't have the capability to do G1 without making it something he identifies with.He can't do ANY story unless he stigmatizes it with textbook filmmaking hallmarks first.

*Had it been G1, it's still reinvented in a setting 30 years into the future.

exactly. that's what i meant, though its not an exact rendition of G1 transformers, it would have been way cool if the interpretation given by the live action films had been applied to the original members of the team. it may be as homages or just a more realistic and modern versions of them, the fanbase may love it or hate it, either way, many of the followers of the film now had'nt even seen the original series but only found out because of the movies.
