Wait, why do I want to see DotM again?

Postby Nico » Sun May 15, 2011 8:10 am

I had a fun discussion days ago when me and a bunch of people came to the conclusion that RotF was possibly one of the worst film ever made. Big shock *sarcasm*. However this made me wonder why the hell I was stupid enough to actually want to see Dark of the Moon.

The plot is going to be weak, characters non existent, humans annoying, american patriotism will be loudly flashed (no offense to americans, just stating a fact here), the plot will be moronic and chances are we will get a ton of juvenile jokes. Robo-scrotum, anyone?

So suddenly I realised: why the hell would I want to see something this stupid? Am I the only one who suddenly had this realisation?

Someone gave a good review of this movie on Ain't it Cool News, apparently it's the best of the three, and the first Half hour focuses entirely on story. Also, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman aren't writing this one, they wrote 1 and 2, and 2 was horrible, so there is still hope.

Say what you will about ROTF, but you haven't seen a lot of movies if you think it's the worst movie ever.

-Already looks better than RotF
-Awesome spoilers so far, regarding both designs and story

Just ask yourself if what you've seen so far gets you amped up to see the new movie. If so, then who cares about ROTF. It seems the've addressed alot of the problems that people didin't like about ROTF. Give it a chance.

Allright. I still wish they would have gotten rid of Michael Bay.

Bay isn't going anywhere as long as Spielberg is in the mix with that franchise.

That franchise is his to keep or leave really. Bay has insisted he wants to work on other things but since this franchise is such a money machine. I think they keep him and pay him well knowing he can shove a movie out two years tops.

Not the only one

I think the issue with the bay movies and people of my generation (kids when g one came out) is that the movies were created at an opportune time, the perfect nostalgia age. Its a precise marketing strategy, where franchises are revitilised at a time to catch the original fans as they become nostalgiac about their youth

Now while transformers continued through other generations, armada, beast wars, energon, etc, the original fans had grew out of the franchise and cast aside our childish toys and only knew transformers through g1 comics and cartoons.

When the new movies are created the original fans have preconcieved notions of how the bots should look and act, which is G one era. Despite the constant changes in character and look, we only know these bots as g one.

therefore when we saw the movies, we couldnt accept, what we believed, were inaccurate portrayals of much beloved characters. We didnt have current generation view, who had see many incarnations of the same bots through the different comics and cartoons.

that is perhaps why we are so stringent by saying that this isnt prime, this isnt wheeljack, etc, because they arent our prime, wheeljack, etc
