Classics Optimus and Ultra Magnus- the thrill is gone

First of all, please don't PM me asking if I'll sell these guys. Not thinking about selling, just wondering where they stand with me and if there's anything that can make me really dig them again.
I have Classics Voyager Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus, had them for some time now. Lately, tho, I find I don't really like them that much anymore. They're clunky and kibbly, and not particularly well-articulated. Every time I go to pull out some Classics, I see these guys and just don't feel anything positive. I've sold TFs before that I've regretted selling, and ended up buying them back. Universe 2 Tankor and Energon Tow-line, to name but two. Those were cheap. If I wanted to buy back Classics Prime and Magnus it'd cost me a fortune.
So I'm torn. I think I could get a pretty penny for them- Magnus is in very good shape, though I may have made some very minor paint apps. Prime has more, and his original red paint has flaked off in places on his arm shields, which I have touched up poorly. Still, they are both complete and will play and display well, particularly if you want them as core figures for the City Commander armor sets. If I could afford that set for Magnus, I'd buy it and feel a whole lot more love for him. I have the BTS trailer for Prime, which is great on its own, but I've modded both Movie Voyager Prime and HFTD Battle Blades Voy Prime to hitch up to it, so I don't really need Classics OP for that.
Anyone else feel like this about these guys? Any mods to make them more interesting? Short of painting, I am willing to try anything. Thanks!

Sorry you feel that way dude! I on the other hand still dig both figs as if it was the first day I got them both. And just last night I put the City Commander armor on Ultra Magnus for the second time since I bought it...pure sweetness! I did get the G3 trailer for Prime so that just adds to his awesomeness. I do have the Classics Prime which has some yellow paint apps which kinda bugged me at first so I was tempted on getting the Henkei version but I'm all over it now. There is no question that they are both still bad-ass....'nuff said!

I feel the same way about Rodimus. When the initial 6 classics came out, I was jacked. Had to have all six. Now the universe has expanded so much, that theres this sort of variety that there wasn't in the beginning. I bought the Sons of Cybertron versions just to have them, and I haven't even opened the box it was shipped in. Just burnt out on a certain level, which means it might be time to trim the fat, or take a step back.

I spent a good deal of time typing up a thoughtful response, but I somehow got logged off (not my doing as I'm set to always be logged in) and was prompted to log back in, and upon doing so it wiped out the whole post. WTF?
Sorry, not gonna try and reproduce every point I made, but the gist of it was, without spending dough to vastly improve your situation (City Commander & Henkei Prime), they're at the very least important characters. Not sure how you keep your collection, but if you have your Classics on display, these two need to at least sit there and look important. MIght not impove them, but for that reason I have a good handful of figs I don't particularly like, but that serve an important purpose...representing themselves!

I still like the figures. However, it helps that I have City Commander and all the add-ons. I've even been mulling over getting Henkei Prime. But he's far down on my list.
What to do depends entirely on what kind of collector you are. If you're a selling type, then by all means sell them. You'll definately make a profit. However, Kibble is correct. They are important characters. And both are more to scale than their deluxe counterparts, if that matters to you.

Classics Voyager Prime is still one of my favorite figures, and I don't have the upgrade set for him. Even though I haven't touched him lately, just not too long ago I gave him some detail touch ups to make him look closer to Henkei version. I think for me he is important being as a Prime standing there.
I don't have Ultra Magnus. Still cross my fingers and hope one day Hasbro will give us a "BETTER" Magnus.

I've got Henkei Convoy (Takara betterness!) and he's one of my all-time favorites. From the moment I got him out of the box, mind mind was blown. Sure, after a while the 'new' wears off, but I pick him up frequently.
Never got Magnus, I'd only consider that if I can get Skywarp in the same box. My paycheck says 'no'.

Get yourself City Commander for Magnus and the FP gun and shoulder cannon set. You will never ever want to give Magnus away after you've displayed that thing once.
Prime on the other hand, you could just display him next to City Commander and a couple of smaller Autobots, or have him fight Megatron, to make him look better, or get the G3 trailer.
Honestly, I can't really say what to do to make you like them more, since I don't feel that way about them. The Classics Voyager Prime mold is one of my all-time favourite molds. I love it so much that I want to build a display with all the different versions of the mold.

Prime was a good figure for the day, although the arm kibble was never welcome. What always bugged me was the lack of ankle articulation. I thought I was the only person that didn't think this figure was the bomb!
I have no useful insights or suggestions for you, sorry.

yeah welcome to Seibertron forums, where the "log me in every visit" button does nothing.

As for Prime and Magnus, well, I've not got them. Wouldn't mind them, but I'd only get Magnus for the City Commander set, and sadly, I need all my internal organs, so not likely to be able to afford them any time soon.
Henkei Prime isn't actually all that difficult to obtain, I've found, and I do like the paint apps a lot more than the Classics version. It seems like an OK figure, but I actually went for the Deluxe Classics Prime on purpose, because I liked the proportions of the robot mode more, if only he was a little bigger and less Tasmanian Devil-like.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

Thanks guys. I can't afford the City Commander set, so that's out. I did remember the Reprolabels set for Classics Optimus, which adds the chrome bumper and other nice details. That might help.
These are important characters, as one of you said, and they're definitely worth having. (Side note- I bought the Ultra Magnus/Skywarp set new at Target for $15 when they were on clearance back then, I wish I'd bought about 5 more.) I'm going to look into modding the arm kibble to mount it on their backs, I think I saw someone do that once.

haha, I know what you mean about the Magnus/Skywarp set, Woolies had loads of them, for about £10 or something, but I didn't see the point of White Prime Magnus, and there appeared to be no Thundercracker coming any time soon so I wasn't bothered about 'Warp.

Classics Optimus and Magnus have become one my favorite molds from that toyline. In fact, I like it so much I even bought the Nemesis Prime repaint. Each of them has their own customized trailers and I still get excited seeing them on display.

Generally it works pretty solid for me. What's even more odd is I had posted twice before it mysteriously logged me out. I think you have to be logged in to start typing a reply...

One of my suggestions in the post that was wiped out mentioned the KO City Commander... No idea what it runs or the quality, but considering the set is pretty much a 'must have', might be worth looking into. Might be better to have a KO CC than no CC...

When I saw the blue translucent rifle, I just had to hand it over to Magnus. And that was of the cooler 3rd party sets that don;t cost an arm and limb. seriously for 20 bucks you get 2 rifles, a jet pack, a pair of articulated fists, and a Matrix if Leadership you can put in any G1 Prime.

I do not have either of these figures so I can't comment from experience. The "arm shields" has prevented me from making a serious attempt to acquire either of them. I hate the kibble that much.
I do have similar feelings abou ALL of my movie line figures. The new is long gone and I wish I had the shelf space for something else. Selling them seems a bother and I don't want to give them to my son because they would get reduced to "un-mint condition."

I have Optimus Prime. I love that figure. He probably gets the most "play time" of all the figures I own. I bought the BTS trailer for him a little while back and that just added to my love of this figure.
