I think the real takeaway from all of this is that Masterpiece toys (as they are now) often feature excellent aesthetics and often very interesting engineering, but very poor execution in materials and durability. If every Masterpiece were as solid as Prime, and as reasonably priced as Skywarp ($60 originally, $30 on clearance), I'd buy them all. But since many are not designed to withstand play or even light handling, there's little enjoyment to get out of them. It's one of those cases where a company believes by sticking a fancy name and a premium price tag on something, it can make a lot of money, but it fails to make the necessary investment (in materials, redesign, quality control, whatever) to make the product live up to expectations.

So you're saying just because he doesn't own all of the MP molds, he can't talk about this? I only own 3 MPs. 2 of which are repaints. Does that make me unable to comment even after personally handling most of them anyway? Also, based on that post, you don't even know if he owns them all.

I'm not sure anymore if you like to troll or not with this. MPs are nice, but so far everything in this thread has done a pretty good job of showing that if you want Quality and durability then MP is not the way to go. If you want some aesthetically awesome, then MP all the way.

You're treating this all like everything you say is fact, when just as you said about amtm's post, it's a opinion. You are of the opinion that MP's are the end all of figures. The general consensus of this thread is against that way of thinking. Personally I don't care at this point. To each their own.

I'm going to buy whatever I want because a rant or 2 on the net is going to deter me from buying stuff.

What keeps me from buying stuff are massive QC issues which have been prevalent is current MP figures. That's why I'm waiting for the second version of rodimus.

Masterpieces aren't designed for playing.

I own all the molds, and I can most certaintly state that they are clearly NOT designed for playing.

The complexity of them combined with the excessive price tag pretty much guarantees that most people are not going to invest a lot of money into something that will wear over time with constant playing.

And I know this for fact because I broke the hip mechanism in my MP-01 from too much playing.

Nah, I don't really like the MP figures.

I'm much more interested in the engineering in the voyager/deluxe/scout classes. I'm not even really into the Leader size class.

For me, scale is a big issue. With the classics/henkei/universe/generations (I refuse to use the term CHUG without giggling) you can have some semblance of scale, whereas with the MP figures it's a bit more of a poop-shoot.

Also, the MP line seems pretty much resigned to legacy characters from G1. I like new characters in my fiction (lockdown from TF:A, Breakout from Prime etc) which you're more likely to get from the fiction-realted lines and the Classics-style lines.


That said, if it HasTakTom were in a position where it was financially viable for them to put out 10 new MPs a year then I'd be all for it, since that would mean that the smaller-scale lines would be selling like CRAZY which, in turn, would give us even more of the smaller-scale lines!

I never said it was anything more than opinion. And forming opinions based on information received from lots of knowledgeable collectors like those on this forum makes perfect sense. I'd much rather learn from someone else's bad experience than have a bad experience of my own. By reading and watching reviews and comments I am able to hone in on the toys with fewer problems and better designs.

I thought for a minute I could contribute to this discussion without leading to any more arguing. I was wrong. You need to lighten up and realize that the point here is to share opinions and learn from each other, not put down everyone who doesn't agree with you--which, by the way, is pretty much everyone from the looks of it. What exactly is the point of starting a thread only to argue with everyone who comments on it just because they don't share your opinion that "Masterpiece" necessarily equals "quality"?

P.S. For the reasonable people on this thread who have commented, I meant I'd buy all molds Hasbro or Takara actually produced in the past or future--not necessarily the ones on Mr. Deathy's wishlist. I currently own three, and am debating about whether to give the others a try.

As an innocent bystander, on the outside looking in at this thread, I would like to say; from page 1 until now, this is absolutely one of the stupidest threads I have ever read in any forum that I have ever been in. Ever.

Firstly, it was an opinionated question from the get-go. However, it was clear from the very second post of the thread that the OP was not going to respect or allow anybody else's opinion but his own because he responded aggressively against the very first response that went against his opinion. Those of you who contributed to this thread after that only encouraged and escalated this atrocity of a thread.

Secondly, arguing over Australian economy and laws is so stupidly off-topic to the original question that its ridiculous. The original topic boils down to a simple yes or no question. "Would you be happy if Hasbro did this........?" Yes or no? Some of you may have convinced yourself that this is part of the main point but I assure you, if you are talking about Austrailian taxes, you've gone too far off the course.

Thirdly, Deathy arguing that its "quality over quantity" is insinuating that there is no "quality" in any of the other lines. This is utterly absurd. Why anybody even responded to any of his posts beyond the opening one is beyond me. The topic itself, while slightly thought provoking, is dumb. Why? Because no collector wants less of what they collect. Why collect it then? Deathy says that he "doesn't collect transformers to fill a room" then why does he collect? Nobody collects transformers to fill a room. They buy what they like and the room filling up naturally happens as a ripple effect of the collecting. Eventually Deathy, one of your rooms would fill up if Hasbro made all of those MPs on your list in the beginning and you bought them all.

Here's how it went down step by step:

I asked would various TF fans like 10 MP TF toys per year.

In the beginning of the thread most stated the prices were too high.

I then said only if your buying the takara versions. the hasbro versions are cheaper priced about the price of AEC leaders & supreme sized TF toys. since the MP TF toys are big,paying on average from $40 to $60 wasn't a bad deal.

Then someone said the austrailan prices were high for everything TF toys.

I stated this wasn't hasbro's/takara's fault,as hasbro sells these MP TF toys to austraila for cheap.

Others complained about austraila taking the thread off topic.

Eventually the thread went back on track.

for a few pages,their was a interesting debate on quanity verses quality. some preferred to grab a whole room full of cheaper priced smaller TF toys. while others were more selective & prefered to go with higher quality TF toys in less volume units.

Then some were giving experience opinions based on TF MP toys they never played with.

I stated my opinion on that matter.

I read it all. Your recap is un-necessary. Your intent was to argue right out of the gate. If it wasn't you wouldn't have chimed in so immediately and aggressively. Those high MP TF Prices only are for those buying the Takara version.

The hasbro MP TF Versions (in america) are way cheaper in price.

My solid "GUESS" is Hasbro will sell both MP-09 Rodimus & MP-10 Optimus without their trailers. My "GUESS" is the price (in america) for both toys will be under $60. With all the sales that USA retail stores offer,The average internet TF fan will pay under $50 for each MP TF Hasbro version toy.

Personally paying around $50 to $60 isn't a bad nor high price to pay for a 9.5 inch robot mode. usually a 9.5 robot mode is considered a AEC $39.99 leader sized TF toy height. paying like $10 extra for a MP TF hasbro toy isn't a bad deal. considering one is getting more accessories,more accurate updated homage design. diecast metal parts,more poseability & higher toy engineering.

ihear where your coming from my concern is that if that is all hastak produce they wouldnt do very well even at that price point megatron will never be sold in a retail
store until the laws change and last time i checked magnus never came stateside. also although grimlock did ok theyre still trying to line up a retailer for rodimus being that hes an exclusive. on a personal note i would not want them to focus on mp's only think about it this way ive purchased my nephew 3 mp's all us releases but those are the only ones he likes out of the entire line on the other hand hes spent triple that on classics/movie/pcc stuff over the last 2 years. again it comes back to the kids as hes 8 years old.

keep in mind the hasbro release of grimlock had NOWHERE NEAR the amount of accesories as mp-8 also of note the only mp's with diecast are grimlock,and the prime molds.again dont get me wrong ive often fantasized about having a wall full of mp's in package but ive got to get what works in my collection and with their size its too much since ive already got a room full of them.
