First Look at Hasbro's Masterpiece Rodimus Prime With Offshoot In Package
Re: First Look at Hasbro's Masterpiece Rodimus Prime With Offshoot In Package
Why is everyone so bent outta shape about the Hasbro version?
Its gonna be 60 bucks TRU exclusive. It looks fine and i personally think the gun shows more detail then the Takara one. Plus the Targetmaster? Sign me up. Some of us cant afford 200+ for the Takara one so thats why the Hasbro one exists. Hasbro cuts corners duhs.
We all know this look at all the Classics figures and Marvel Legends since the Hasbro takeover. Quality has gone down.
I for one will be owning the TRU figure. And those pipes are clearly chrome. But if youre upset with Hasbro, as always, tell them with your wallet. Im happy with my US Prime, Starscream and US Grimlock (which i found dozens of in Ohio) and the HotRod looks fine for 60 to me.
My ranting two cents worth.

Rodimus Prime without his trailer is HotRod.
They do that because they cannot trademark Hot Rod. I am kinda sick of people complaining about this. This is the 'Hot Rod' MP; we all know this. Can we just pretend copyright laws do not exist and make believe this is MP Hot Rod?
Since you didn't both to really read or understand my comment before you snapped off a reply, what I was trying to say is that without his trailer, Rodimus Prime is whatever he was before he was a Prime, be that the G1 "Hot Rod" or the more current naming standard "Rodimus."
The toy is clearly labeled Rodimus PRIME but he is not configured like the character in his Prime form so he should either be called Hot Rod or simply Rodimus.

It's wrong on all levels. This worked with Prime because he was tow parts. I understood that. But Rodimus is like a hot rod van. They even made the Titanium Version have a trailer. This is more of a farce.
I don't like Masterpiece toys no way, but I won't even buy this.
So I get a targetmaster instead of a trailer. I'm sure when you can't find anymore of these people will flood ebay with the targetmaster.
People tell Hasbro with your wallets to stop cutting corners, this toy is not Rodimus, it's Hot Rod.

I'm thinking it's probably because it still retains the conversion in robot mode, so they want to explain it somehow. But they could totally get away with just Rodimus, so...yeah.

No, no, NO!!! I was going to buy this one until I seen this pic. It looks terrible, it looks like a bad knock off. Really hasbro, really?? Usually the differences between hasbro and takara are not that big of a deal but this is just terrible. I am not a real big Rodimus fan since he is responsible for Optimus dying but the takara version is such a nice looking figure. Seeing this hasbro version has convinced my to preorder the takara version 2 rodimus. Thanks hasbro, you really dropped the ball this time.

This isn't that nice. It's more of a missed opportunity. Toy-accuracy is not what this mold was designed for. It was clearly based on the animation model and thus calls for a show-accurate look. Hasbro could have easily replicated the Takara version's color scheme with little changes and still left out the trailer, and yet it would have looked significantly better than this.burning_sirius wrote:I like all the nerd rage posts. One thing about this makes no sense. The name. This should be Masterpiece Hot Rod. They should gut all of the Rodimus features. Because he really isn't Rodimus Prime. He's incomplete....why?

Can't wait to hear the news at the hasbro panel - since a US version has not been confirmed yet. Also, I wonder if this will be available at SDCC? Hopefully Entertainment Earth carries it again. This will again be priority #1 as Grimlock was last year. I'm getting it regardless of whatever gray/chrome issues & despite the lack of a trailer. (Just like US 20th anniv. MP Prime having shorter, gray smokestacks -not a dealbreaker for me) Can't afford the Takara version anyway. $60-70 some odd dollars is much more palatable.

why would you waste 60+ dollars on a transforming ROBOT and then display him in vehicle mode anyways? Unless you know you need that trailer for the "totally accurate" show mode battle station.... In robot mode, yeah he is Rodimus Prime. I dont remember robotmode rodimus prime draggin the damn trailer behind him everywhere he went. As for the colors...well i cant argue that point...

Dropped the ball yet again! Ahhhhhh! I don't get it. How can they get some things so right at times then they turn around and just crap on other things.. The paint sucks! It does look like a ko.. The target master is nice but got damn the missing paint just sucks! I'll get this one just to keep in alt mode.. Now I have no choice but to shell out 200$ bucks! Damn u hasbro!.. This is just as bad as when I got my delux grimlock from the classic line and realized that the robot kinda sucked! I hate the t-Rex head being the feet.

I actually like the Hasbro version more, I think the black headlights and flame decal look better than the Takara one. I won't miss the trailer either, space a winnebago is a lame alt mode and I never liked gun platforms anyway.

Man its hurtful to see so many bashing posts to this single image of it. It could just be a test model in package. I for one think its great they are getting it to the us! and with a targetmaster!? awesomenesss ill wait for my final judgement on this when hasbro officially reviles it but its looking gooood

So much unnecessary, but hilarious, rage.. what were people expecting? This is par for the course. Do we expect less paint apps for a Hasbro release - yes, of course, it's part of the reason why it is cheaper. Do we expect toy accuracy over show accuracy - naturally, 99% of the time Hasbro goes for toy accuracy and Takara goes for show accuracy. It's one of the points of difference to set their products apart.
The Targetmaster is the interesting bonus feature, and I'm hoping we get to see some pics of it in alt mode from Botcon.
The real question, which has probably been asked many times in this thread already, is whether this uses the new Takara 2.0 version of the mould with improvements over the original. I suspect this was not possible, but I'm sure we'll know for sure soon.

I'm not enraged, but I'm shocked, disappointed and confused.
1.) Why call it Masterpiece Rodimus Prime when, there's not much Prime about it?
1a.) New Matrix, won't fit in his chest. Strike one.
1b.) Rodimus never transformed into Hot Rod's alt. mode Strike two.
1c.) No trailer, which is required to complete Rodimus Prime. Own the trailer, use it with the figure, and you'll see.
2.) It's clearly Masterpiece Hot Rod.
2a.) It has all of his gimmicks and accessories.
2b.) If you gut the Rodimus features, no one would be out anything.
2c.) The deco isn't Rodimus Prime accurate, but it fits the G1 Hot Rod to a t.
Why market it as something it's really not? And be,lieve me, the trailer does make a world of difference.

I agree that this Hasbro intended this to be more of a Masterpiece Hot Rod than a Masterpiece Rodimus Prime.
But unless you're a MISB collector, I wouldn't have thought the name on the box is a big deal. If it was on my shelf I would just call it Masterpiece Hot Rod, and it wouldn't lessen the figure any. I would have thought that fans would be more excited about getting a brand spanking new targetmaster mould.
I'm not having a go at you specifically, I was just surprised (and amused) by the overwhelmingly negative reaction here on Seibertron, which I find uncharacteristic of these forums. I had a look at a few other sites and the reaction was much more welcoming. Usually I find it is the other way around.

I offer a suggestion: Perhaps this figure was named Rodimus Prime bc he is packaged with the older Rodimus Prime face. AND (other than the shin decals)he is colored much like the Rodimus Prime from the cartoon. AND in the cartoon R.P. never used his trailer, and the targetmaster...wait...nevermind! I will be buying it. I can tell you the QC problems from the Takara version never bothered me, I like my Tak. and here is the chance to own a cheaper one for the Hot Rod/Rodimus display I wanted. To me, it's a win, even if they called him Bozo.

I kind of want to go back to the Hasbro MP Grimlock thread where so many people were all like, "F Takara!" and other assorted such nonsense.
I wonder how many of those comments have matching ones by posters in this thread?
The whole mess is like getting a steak in a chain restaurant; cheap, delicious, and covered in salt.

I've waited a long time to see this, and I have to say, whilst the Targetmaster looks cool, the paint job does not.
I'll be buying Takara Tomy's new and improved version when it comes out and selling the trailer. I'm glad for everyone living in the States that you're going to be able to get this guy easily at TRU but I'll be passing on him.
Takara's has the brighter, more movie accurate paint job so that's the one for me.

although i do want a rodimus prime, i doubt i will be able to buy him because chances are he is at least $80 and that is $80 that i won't have if i get takara's jet pack optimus prime.
and i don't want to get a job again not during the summer time.

A good idea mate but I haven't painted anything since junior high school art class and unfortunately don't posses the talent or time to paint it myself (I wish I did though).

OK, fifteen pages of butthurt later, and I'm clearly in the minority. I'm OK with that. This is wicked cool. I love that there's major differentiation between the two, and the Hasbro version is fairly toy accurate:

I wish they'd shiny up the chest a bit and go with a gold color, but I can live. If this looked the same and just subbed the targetmaster for the trailer, I'd be pissed. I love the radically different deco.
Also, who gives a crap about the name. I'm calling him Gluestick.
