For those who don't like Movieverse Starscream:
As I said again, I was a hater back then. I even called him the clamformers because he's clam-looking.
And yeah I let him in my heart and I love him ever since.
Just look at this sweet little thing. Isn't it just darling?

I can't stand their stupid proportions, low detailing, stickers (stickers in general), sculpts, lack of articulation, simplistic boring transformations, and the stupid diecast that just chips off its paint like a stripper his/her cloths.
I wish HasTak would stop investing resources in reissuing that stuff and focus on making better, more modern toys instead.

Then, those were the height of toy tech. Well, for the most part. It's also an era that didn't have the respect or appreciation that we have today. They also did the best they could to keep the prices down. After all, at that time, they wanted everyone to have one and never once thought about them lasting long.
I do however wonder if the paint is any better today, than it was then?
I know they came from a different era, I grew up with them, I still think they look fugly though.
No the paint is worse than back then, paint chipping from diecast has nothing to do with the paint, it has to do with the diecast itself. You see metal "works" as in it moves and expands depending on the temperature, the paint does not so it chips off. Unless you use super expensive car paint.

He's definitely not a bad candidate.

I don't miss most of those things, but I do miss the ease of Transforming. It's getting pathetic lately.

Re: Ugly Transformers

This particular offering from our friends at Hasbro pains me to look at. It's ridiculous AND hideous!

This to me is good ugly. Psychotic looking sonofabitch is what it looks like! That mouth of his is so big and ravenously hungry to chew your face off that they put a mouth guard over it. love it. And those maniacal eyes.....merciless.
He looks like a howling psychotic F@*!'n MANIAC!!!........ very nice

You know, I can't argue with that. Wow. That's almost as bad as the X-Wing transformer.

I can't think of anything I absolutely would not collect, ugly or not. There are a lot of things what would make me much less likely to pick up a particular figure, though.
- simple transformation. No RPMs (so far). I do have an original Topspin and a Freeway, though, although they slipped through based on a cool altmode and character writeup/obscurity, respectively. I can't really explain the HOCs, though...
- panel massage requirements. Most of my collection doesn't need this. I do have some Alternators and RiD cars, though.
- a floppy mess of a robot mode. Transformation instructions should not have to include duct tape.
- asymmetrical facial features. I don't have the Twins, DOTM Megatron, TM2 BW characters, and so on. Unnecessary asymmetry in the decoration is also offputting, although I'm quite happy to accept it if it's a logical result of the particular transformation process. Less so if it could have been minimized without affecting the altmode. Transformers with one foot and one peg-leg (Windmill, G1 Hook etc) are especially creepy, for some reason.

Re: Ugly Transformers
+1 for the Beast Wars dislike. I'm not really a huge fan either.
Karnabat: I wish starscream was a bit more awesome like that picture, but the movieverse toy just sucks. Keep in mind I didn't mind him as a character but as a toy. I also love g1 scream and the new prime incarnation.

Have you ever had the HftD Leader Class Starscream? Because not only it's one of the best TF ever, he's the most movie acurate, have a very fun transformation, and he look kick-ass in both modes. I'm not kidding. I'm showing you mine:

Sure, he got some heavy under-carriage in jet mode, but he's really, REALLY worth it.
Also, as a Canadian, I'm lucky to have found it on sale at my TrU for 40$+taxes last year. AND he's saying the FULL PHRASES! Not just "Decepticon" and "Starscream", but "Decepticons will CRUSH the Autobots." and "No ones can defeat Starscream!". Because, you know, of the language laws and Québec is so picky (French Québécois here, FWI) the phrases the toys say are chopped off. Lame.
Anyway, this is not the point. The point is, get yourself a Leader movie Starscream. If you don't like the tatoo patern and you don't mind paying more, get Takara's Movie Masterpiece. Either way, you'll end up with a very accurate movie Starscream who transform well, who look great in both modes, and that is pretty fun overall.
And if you still don't like it, you'll have no troubles selling it back.

Screamfleet: I can see what you mean. Most of Beast Wars left me cold.
Actually, I love most of beast wars.
TM2 has a few figures that just aren't as tight and solid as the rest. TM2 Scourge just seemed lazy and the modes too similar.
Jawbreaker is another odd one. He has a great beast mode though. It doesn't carry to his squaty robot mode. Tiny robot arms, with big animal arms on top, and the huge tail weapon, that doesn't transform at all.
