Noideaforaname: That's cool. It does make more sense for the characters to look less human, unless they were made by a humanoid race.

monstergrotusque: I can sympathize with that idea as well. Especially when looking at his body. I still think someone was smoking something when that design got accepted.

DISCHARGE: Is it me or does it seem they based that design off of Optimus Primal? I am also glad to see that you've found something in him to enjoy. I'd love for you to explain more about what you like about him. Maybe it'll keep me from doing some serious damage to my TM Starscream.

Grahf: Why should you catch hell? I've come across many who don't like most if not all of Beast Wars. There are some that even consider BW to be a complete betrayal of the original Transformers. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of most of them. There's a few characters I've come to like because of the show, but not many beyond that. I don't like how they transform and have got all that kibble all over the place or were the same simple level of transformation that GoBots were. But I will give Beast Wars this; if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the articulation and the awesome quality ones we have today. The ball joint transformations have really helped give a whole new level of transformation that wasn't in the original line.

Truth is there's stuff in every line that people don't like and many good reasons not to. When you start looking at them and seeing why you don't like them it's fascinating to see what it teaches us about ourselves. It's important to understand the things we don't like because it helps us appreciate the things that are good.

Sometimes it even helps to get out that we don't like something. That doesn't mean that we're bashing it, it just means we're expressing something we wouldn't have a means to express any other way. We're told so often, "We shouldn't hate," and "We shouldn't speak if we don't have anything nice to say," but all that does is pent us up and keep us from really finding out what it is we don't like about that object. When we do that, we find we either have a valid reason to dislike it or not. But the understanding of why for the dislike allows us to move on and grow.

G1 Ironhide and Ratchet were both equally apalling in robot mode. No head? Really? G1 Huffer was also kind of screwed up looking in robot mode... the hands/arms were horrible. I've also never really been a big fan of how G1 Devastator looked, though the Crazy Devy parts offer a huge improvement imo.

Obvious and too easy trolling aside, it surprised me to see so many don't like movieverse Starscream. At first, I did'nt liked him either, but it gradually grew on me. When the Leader Class HFTD Starscream was on sale at 40$, I gave him a chance. I was instantly sold. That desing was simply brilliant and he was finally rad looking. So, I added every molds of him for my Starscream collection. One of my favorite is the 2007 Voyager Movie Starscream in G1 colors with dat goblin head. So weird, he's good!

As for so ugly that make me hate the figure? Well, I'll just speak about the ones I own or owned, obviously. If I hte one's desing, I just won't buy it. Of course, I bought some that look good in packaging but once I transformed them....

G1 Headmaster Apeface. The vehicle was very nice looking, the ape form was okay, but the bot mode was really sad looking. That's why I did not regret to have sold that last surviving TF of my childhood.

Alternator Optimus Prime. I got him only for my Optimus Prime collection and he was cheap. In vehicle mode, his panels refuse to fit perfectly together. But the real problem is his robot mode. The huge shoulder kibbles, the crotch-guard, these square legs... He's a pathetic excuse for a Prime. Still, I'll never get rid of him.

DotM Deluxe Sideswipe. Appart for the very, VERY poor paintjob, that robot mode don't sit well for me. Mostly the legs. Chicken legs are okay for a flyer, but for a ground dude, it's stupid.

As for the so ugly it's awesome, there's the Super Gobots. Mainly the cars with their "cockpits-as-heads". All vehicle are at a Binalteck/Alternity level of quality, but the robots are weird 1950/1960's retro looking. HOW MORE AWESOME CAN THEY GET? So far, I got Baron Von Joy, Zeemon, and Psycho. I'm planning to get the rest.
Oh, and there's DotM Deluxe Cranckcase. Standard looking vehicle, but a robot who look like the Predator is awesome behond words.

The Movieverse - there, I said it. I think Sideswipe is just about passable but that's it. Leadfoot.........? That one sets the bar at an all time low for design.

And before any of the Bay-defenders feel too upset there were plenty of G1, G2 and pretty much every single itteration of TFs that are fugly beyond my ability to forgive/buy. The Fuzors and Retrax in Beast Wars used to be my standard for unacceptability and before that it was Quickswitch and the utterly horrible Sparkbots.

And even my beloved Classics habours some dogs - Aside from the well known Galvatron Mess I've never liked the weird neck on Prowl and Smokescreen is just flat out awful.

Sometimes you look at Spec Ops Jazz and think: Why don't HasTak's designners have THAT on their desk each and every time they start work on a character?

gotta go with movieverse. they just looke too "bionicle"ish.....very fugly. except optimus prime. he looks pretty good in all the series. if they could just make a transformable revolvtech, that would be PERFECT

@Shadowstream, I'm actually a huge fan of Soundwave even though he falls into both categories of my G1 aesthetic dislikes.

As for Botcon Nightbeat, he's too big. I dislike the deluxe cars because they look out of place with the diaclones that I'm a huge fan of. I'd love a Scout G1 Nightbeat to fit in with them.

I also really like Squeezeplay. I finally got around to getting Lokos for him this week.

The third party heads for G1 Ironhide and Ratchet really do improve them and they look nice with G1 Prowl, Sideswipe and the rest. I had Ratchet as a kid and I wouldn't touch Ironhide until I got the set. G1 Ironhide is now one of my alltime favourite TF's.

I'm also fond of BW SCourge.

Oh, beards really tick me off on TF's. Only Unicron and Scourge get away with it. I hate G1 Alpha Trion, Wreck Gar and the various Animated beard bots. They just look ridiculous. I will admit to liking DOTM Sentinel Prime.

Not a big fan of most of BW either.

I'm trying to understand why a lot of people dislike the movie Transformers. Some of them I understand, but others, Ratchett, Bummblebee (which to me was a huge improvement), the original Arcee concept and especially Prime were the best I've seen them in a while.

My favorites so for are the Cybetronian Soudwave, Prime, and some of the classics line.

I've grown to hate the original G1 toys, not the character designs, but the actual toys from the 80s.

I can't stand their stupid proportions, low detailing, stickers (stickers in general), sculpts, lack of articulation, simplistic boring transformations, and the stupid diecast that just chips off its paint like a stripper his/her cloths.
I wish HasTak would stop investing resources in reissuing that stuff and focus on making better, more modern toys instead.

Dead Metal: No love loss there huh? Just keep in mind those toys came from a very different era. They were very limited in what they could do compared to today. Then, those were the height of toy tech. Well, for the most part. It's also an era that didn't have the respect or appreciation that we have today. They also did the best they could to keep the prices down. After all, at that time, they wanted everyone to have one and never once thought about them lasting long.

I do however wonder if the paint is any better today, than it was then?

you know what....i might have to reconsider my stance at movieverse starscream being the ugliest transformer of all.......i think energon optimus(with the lips) is THE ugliest of all the transformers.(puts on flame suit)
