Open Hands vs. Fist Holes & RTS at Ollie's!
Hey gang, this is going to be a two in one topic.
The first: Reveal the Shield Deluxe Figures are at Ollie's!! $7.99!!!! Finally got Wreck-Gar and G2 Prime.
However, when I stuck the weapons in their hands...stress marks. Blasted stupid stress marks. I know about the hair dryer trick, but it's the possibility of breaking that I don't like, and it's hard to enjoy a figure with that in mind. So I've done my best to sand down the handles of their weapons.
But my question is: why? Why should I even have to do that? I'd have been just as happy if Hasbro had used the old stand by of fists with holes in the center. Very very rarely have I ever had a problem with that.
Yet there have been a few references(though no breakages on my part) about these newish open hands breaking: Animated Arcee's thumbs, HFTD Bludgeon's hands, and I'm sure somewhere down the road there will likely be reports of RTS Prime and Wreck-Gar's hands breaking.
So what do you guys think, open hands, yay or nay?

If it means a more durable figure... Go Hasbro, go.
Or just use better plastics.
(Bloody stressmarks are the f****** norm these days.)

For Wreck-Gar, don't insert weapon from the middle. Let him hold the weapon from the bottom tip. I know, we shouldn't do that.
Personally I support and prefer fist holes. Open hands are so far disastrous and they only look good while not holding anything. There are only few of them designed well. RTS Jazz and Generations Straxsus whose is even articulated.

I prefer fists with holes or collapsible fingers. Those little thumbs are too fragile.

Fists/holes are way better and look more convincing in fight poses anyway. The only open hand design that looks any good is Spec Ops. Jazz - at least his weapon sits well without cracking the plastic.

Definitely fist holes. Absolutely nothing wrong with them and a lot better than those fragile open hands.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

I noticed on a couple of recent figures (Tracks/Wheeljack maybe?) that when inserting the weapon, it didn't even come in contact with the thumb, instead cliping into a molded inset inside the hand. I like that compromise.
I too prefer fists to open hands, at least the hands where the thumbs could snap off. I believe that Hasbro went with the open hand to allow for a little extra flexibility in design, since a closed fist needs a thicker arm to encirle it, which would then impede the design in some cases.

Spec Ops Jazz has the best of both worlds - open hands that look decent holding a weapon OR not holding one.
But if i had to choose... Open hands, but with better plastics.

Can we please come up with a better term than "fist holes"?
How about "closed hands"?
Ehhhh, an open hand looks slightly better to me, but if it avoids stress marks - I'll take closed hands.

Ditto.
The open hand is more appealing to me. The fists might be sturdier, but they seem much more "blah." But if it keeps the hands from breaking I'd rather have the "blah" than the "D;"

I like em both. I admit though that i'm bored of fists with every figure though. The open hands are a welcome but subtle creative change. They make the figures a little more dynamic in my opinion instead of the status quo of a static fist.
Also i haven't had any issues with stress marks by the way.

This.
I haven't had stress mark trouble but I prefer fists.

I also don't always have my figures in fighting/action poses. So the open hands seem appropriate. Not so tense.
