Do you think we will ever see base transformers ever again?
I've been wondering this for awhile. It seems with the last few iterations of the TF universe they have not had the need for an Autobot or Decepticon Cityformer. Would the concept even be relevant anymore?
What I really would like is a G1 homage to Omega Supreme, both in style and concept. I hate that they didn't release a version of him from Animated. I'm wondering if it's a cost thing or is that the way the toyline is going? Away from the big, epic sized figures that become grails later on?
Well's here's to hoping we'll get updated versions of Tripticon, and Omega Supreme with the WFC line. Doubt it, but I can always dream...

In my experience Cityformers are traditionally shelf warmers, that being the case, and particularly with this economic climate, I doubt we'll be getting a new one soon.

It's all about toy and child safety laws. The bigger the toy, the more chance it has of falling and squishing some babie's head, or some dumb kid could try to eat the face off of him and choke to death, there's so many factors here.
What I don't get is why we dont have an ADULT COLLECTOR series of figures? DC Does it, why not the transformers?
Anyway, maybe city bots WILL return, what with the new booming and ever growing cyberverse line, but it's still doubtful...

And, didn't DOTM release the Ark? Though more on a micromaster scale can answer your baseformer fix.
I pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that TT release G1 Headmaster Scorponok, now that would make my collecting fix complete!

used to love my Metroplex and Scorponok when I was a nipper. Honestly, they weren't much bigger or more complex than the likes of the first MP Prime or Optimal Optimus, so I don't see why such a thing couldn't be done anew.
Maybe it might be best to go along the lines of Micromasters with their bases, that can all combine in some form or other? Cyberverse playsets that could become part of a larger "city" when combined with a leader class toy that has a battle-station mode.

Best bet would probably be with Cyberverse. The Ark is certainly a step in that direction even if it doesn't have a robot mode of it's own (although it's actually pretty small for the Cyberverse figures).
Of course, working in a robot mode would raise the price.

How do they ensure it's 'adult'? Do they just put an age sticker on it?

I've seen Big but I don't know what you're talking about.
A base former in the MP line seems plausible to me. Especially as a baseformer would beed to be big and therefore expensive.
Who knows, with the possibility of TF4 comes new toy possibilities...

Re: Do you think we will ever see base transformers ever again?
If they do make one, having it be an "exclusive" for one particular store might help it keep from being a major shelf warmer... maybe...
I dunno how well the Ark is selling but stores always seem to have several of them (especially now that they have the Ark and the Ark with bonus Sentinel). If it is doing well we *might* get base-former but if it's not, Hasbro is not likely to make that extra step... lest they wish to take a chance/risk with it

How is Metroplex is the same size as optimal optimus? Did they release a smaller version later on?

They did share names at the concept level, but Metroplex is majorly smaller than Fortress Maximus. In fact, Fortress Maximus is 2 feet tall, making him the largest Transformer ever made. His most recent release was in 2000 as part of the Japanese Car Robots line, but the US couldn't import him for RiD, because he failed the Drop Test. He would have been an FAO Schwarz exclusive.

Re: Do you think we will ever see base transformers ever again?
I laughed at the convo going on in here, but in all seriousness, every Tin Toy I've seen in stores says "adult collectors only" even though the box also say for ages 8+ on them. In fact some stores I've been in refuse to sell them to anyone under 13. So there are toys meant for adult collectors out there.
Not that I'm saying Transformers should have such a label, but if it means getting certain figures Hasbro wouldn't otherwise make, why the hell not.

They are in no way the same. Fort Max is at least a foot taller. Strangely, though I have had both (several times) I have never had them at the same time...
When I did get Metroplex again as an adult though, I was underwelmed by his size. He was huge when I was 7 but today he's just Leader class.
Metrotitan is the Metroplex repaint. And no he is not a zombie Metroplex.

Re: Do you think we will ever see base transformers ever again?
Honestly, I'm not even bothered if Fort Max and Scorponok are City-Formers, I'd be happy with new, articulated versions of the characters. Maybe they'd be better suited to the Voyager size than Deluxe, but so long as Scorpy changed into an arachnid with a tail and had his Headmaster gimmick I'd be ok. Fort Max is maybe a tad trickier, as he doesn't really have any kind of proper alt-mode. I suppose he could be a "Cyberverse Command Centre" or something? Really tho, so long as he has the sword, can pose a bit, and the Headmaster gimmick (I'd be fine with one head only) I'd get him too. It's far from ideal, of course, but it wouldn't suck, and in the comics they've both been quite variable as far as scale goes.
