Maybe I'm in the minority with something like this, but if I'm gonna get him I'm going to make sure what I'm buying is minty and complete. If I'm gonna pony up a big amount of cash, I don't want something that isn't in awesome shape with all the stuff.
I made the mistake of trying to get a cheap Cobra Terrordrome a few years ago and bought one that was supposedly 95% complete on ebay. It was in reality maybe 70% if it was lucky with a lot of flaws. I never completed it and got so disgusted with it that when I moved I actually stripped down the shell, kept all the parts and threw out the shell itself.
I'm not sure if I will ever own a Fort Max but the only way I see myself doing it if I have enough cash at a BotCon (or similar event)and have a chance to give it an extreme looking over first. I feel you can't go "halfway" with such a piece.

I spent $200 on mine so I got very lucky.
I got mine for $130 probably five or six years ago. If I ever get another version it'll be because it's been reissued or I've come into a massive amount of cash. Brave Max is fantastic though and I'm more than happy with him.

Did he come with the decals already applied or was there a sticker sheet for your enjoyment?

Brave Max doesn't come with a sticker sheet. He does come with pre-applied stickers though. I know Reprolabels will still sell his stickers as a special order. As far as enjoyment goes, stickers make me crazy. I don't really enjoy them at all.

Honestly, the thing I like most about "modern TF's" vs. G1's is the lack of sticker sheets. Those buggers drive me nuts.

My wife bought me Fort Max for Christmas this year. It was a bare bones set, basically just the body. I've been trying to piece it together since then and I'm about 50-60% of the way there. The one piece I really thought would be hard to get were the 5 wheels that go on the back but I got lucky and found the only one on ebay. 10 bucks later I didn't have to worry about that. Piecing him together like this is a lot of fun. I've even set up my Micromaster construction patrol, Erector, and the Ironworks to appear as if they are building Fort Max.

Was there any major wear to it? I think that's part of what annoyed me about that Terrordrome. Hunting down the parts was one thing but even 100% complete I think some of the structural things would have bugged me.

With the exception of some sticker wear there was little evidence of it being 20+ years old. It needed a little bit of cleaning but that's about it. All of the joints are tight, the paint looks great, and everything snaps together tight when transforming.

Picks of this in the "Awesome Pictures and Poses Thread" please! I forget which group uses them, but I love pictures of Transformers using the Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Bases. Been meaning to pick up a few and make a playset.
On topic, I'm not sure if/when I would start to prepare for a FortMax purchase. I agree with Delicon, I'd prefer to buy this figure as close to, if not, 100% oomplete and without damage - I'm sure that doing so would bring about a much higher cost than trying to piece together, but something that complex I would really like instant gratification.

buying him in parts does seem like a good idea, but I live in the UK and whenver I see the accessories for him they are always ridiculously expensive shipping costs and I think that did not cost you that much to send it over here.
I might try getting one in the Summer as costs are usually lower then or whenever I can actually afford to buy one.
But yes i think breaking him down would be better for me at the moment.
