Eh, hasn't stopped Hasbro in the past.
It would still be weird for them to make a toy based on a character that showed up for a few pannels in one comic, and hasn't shown up for 5 years due to being dead.
Although, we are getting Double Dealer very soon, who died in his very own spotlight issue. Admittedly, he's not being produced with his IDW body, as he's a repaint of Generations Blitzwing. Still, being dead doesn't stop a toy from being made. How many toys did Prime Cliffjumper get AFTER he died 5 minutes into the series premiere?
Here's the differences:
Doubledealer is an established oldschool character
Doubledealer was a major character before his death
Grindcore was only in that one issue to get killed off, he wasn't even a minor character, that's like making a toy based off of the guy Megatron killed in that one flashback of the movie (07).

And silly me, we have a full 18 Deluxes this year. I forgot about the Mini-Con 3-pack.

Same here. So let me correct myself: 46 Generations toys.

Hasbro was probably close to making "that guy," lol. They were straining to extend the first movie line by the end, with unused concept characters, videogame drone fodder, new characters made up of various inanimate cars, planes, and objects seen in the movie, repaints of Armada, Cybertron, and Classics toys, AND "premium" repaints of the first wave of figures. "That guy" Megatron offlined probably had more reason to be in the toyline than most of the non-screen characters.

Simon Furman revealed on his blog he created IDW Grindcore, simply because he liked the name. You can read that on his blog.
As such, Movie Grindcore and IDW Grindcore are completely unrelated. Heck, Movie Grindcore was inspired by the Japanese G1 Crush-Bull figure!

Yes and all because they didn't have much to work with while stores demanded more, which is why they absorbed a few toys that where meant to be Classics into that line. That is also the reason why Prime Cliffjumper got so many toys, since there aren't many on-screen characters to work with.
Grindcore on the other hand is an idw guy, and there are sooooooooooooooooo many idw guys for Hasbro to choose from, why would they choose him over any of the actual characters, the guys who still show up today? And then rename him Tankor? What sense does that make?

If this is true, then I can hardly believe how many figures we're getting from this line.
I'm really looking forward to Nightbeat and Rattrap. If only all of the season 1 Beast Wars characters would make an appearance in the comics.

Relax, Dead Metal. I know Grindcore is a longshot. I've not been defending my speculations so much as poking fun at Hasbro's weird and unpredictable behavior over the years.
JelZe, I wasn't talking about Grindcore at that point. I was talking about random dead Cybertronian/Autobot that Megatron killed in a flashback sequence.

If Rattrap's coming to us, this further proves the rumor(?) that those appearing in "Dark Cybertron," or at least the first issue's cover, are getting Thrilling 30 toys.

I mean, we've already more than half of the characters on that cover.
And with that, I hope they close off the Deluxes with that Rodimus. Read T30 Trailcutter's censored spotlight from the pack-in today, I can't get over Rodimus' glorious character model.

Really hoping Nightbeat resembles the work done by Cheets as well. Really looking forward to Rattrap too. One of my all time favorite characters from Transformers. I really hope they do him justice. I'll be happy to wait and see on the rest.

But then I remembered something: in the IDW comics, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge are separate characters from Megatron, Bombshell, and Thundercracker, respectively, as opposed to the traditional "Unicron upgraded these guys". So it's quite possible that in the IDW continuity, Rhinox and Tankor, like the aforementioned Decepticons, are separate characters.
Yeah, having them be seperate characters can cause a lot of confusion.

Technically, Galvatron's original toy bio (which predated his appearance in the more mainstream fiction) painted him up as being a new character who wanted to gain leadership of the Decepticons, had a rank of 9 (lower than Megatron's rank of 10), and is a City Commander (like Ultra Magnus).Delicon wrote:Am I the only one who really hates the IDWverse totally reinventing characters such as Galvatron?

I know, I know, that was likely done to keep the film's reformatting him from Megatron a surprise, but it's still officially published material.

Amusingly ironic, given the central theme of Transformers is "change".

It doesn't bother me much, really. Like I say all the time, "different continuities, different rules". Now, I understand uber, mega changes, say for instance, changing Optimus Prime from a truck to, say, a dopey little Model T. Then we can rant and rave about how much of a stupid idea that would be.

Delicon, here's how I reason it out in my own meta-continuity between IDW's G1 reboot and the original G1 cartoon/animated movie. Maybe it will help you feel better about IDW Galvatron. So, without further ado:
Consider that in both universes, the D-Void/The Darkness/Dead Universe and Unicron represent the same philosophical idea. Thanatos. Unlife. Death and destruction of the living. Unicron, in the cartoon, was created by some dude for some reason (see: "Call of the Primitives"). Maybe Unicron figures out how to tap into the Dead Universe as a power source? Maybe that's why he feeds so voraciously on planetary life. Instead of expanding the Darkness into the Universe, he's bringing the Universe to the Darkness? Or he's just mega hungry because he's an undead zombie from associating with the Dead Universe? The point is that, perhaps, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge were also ancient Cybertronians in the cartoon who were claimed by the Dead Universe. As Unicron uses Megatron and "the chassis of dead Decepticons" to form a strike force to seize the Matrix of Leadership from the Autobots, he remakes them in the image of Cybertronians he knows from his contact with the void. G1 Cartoon Megatron could be a facsimile of the original Galvatron who may have been lost to the void under similar circumstances eons ago. The same goes for Cyclonus and Scourge. If you like, you can take that as an additional reason that G1 cartoon Galvatron is crazy. Merging two different minds might do that to a person (persons?). Also interesting how the Matrix is the bane of both Unicron and the D-Void, huh? Almost like they're the same thing as far as the multiverse is concerned
End of fan babbling.
I'm all for a little tweaking but I don't like it when they completely change who they are - in this case, literally.
Amusingly ironic, given the central theme of Transformers is "change".![]()
It doesn't bother me much, really. Like I say all the time, "different continuities, different rules". Now, I understand uber, mega changes, say for instance, changing Optimus Prime from a truck to, say, a dopey little Model T. Then we can rant and rave about how much of a stupid idea that would be.
Truthfully I hate all these stupid little universes, too. When you think about it, we really didn't have that until around R.I.D. came out, although some might argue Beast Machines contradicted too much established stuff to really fit in the G1 universe.
