We need to have a talk about Megatron.

Megatron is a destroyer. He wrecks ****, and wrecks it good. I just really want to see him unleash all that power on and enemy that, for once, really truly deserves it. We got a taste of it with the final DJD battle, but I want more. I don't know if that is the direction Roberts is taking the character, but that is what I want. That said, I've come to appreciate what is happening, and will be well pleased either way.
Personally, I'm still not fully sold on his change of heart, I think that he is still tired, but maybe Ravages' death, combined with the return of terminus, has deeply effected him, and he might finally really be changing. Roberts has done an amazing thing, and really made me care about Megatron. Not in a awesome character way, but more in actually being invested in his growth and direction way. Megatron is interesting in a way he has never been before.
All that said, I still don't see his pacifist attitude lasting too much longer in a Functionist universe. I mean, c'mon, did you see the way he ripped his restraints apart like tin foil? Megs will bust some fusion caps in some asses. I declare it.

I'm a little surprised at this statement, as you then say other things in the rest of the comment - but it's very heartening to see the change in your own perspective as the narrative and character develop!
Personally, I find the tension (narrative, dramatic, potentially social) of a non-violent character in a violently oppressive setting extremely intriguing - and very fitting to certain current discourses around protest and disobedience - and I'm very interested to see how this might work out.
(I'm not sure 'pacifist' is the right term, but I'm not happy on 'non-violent' either. So let's accept both, and keep it as a semantic point.)
I like seeing a different type of leadership, once again compared to Rodimus' style, and Optimus' own one too (plus Starscream and Windblade, really, too), and seeing it explored fairly well so far, with personal and collective both at stake.
There was another point I wanted to make, but I am running late for another thing, so will come back to this later!

The serious problems I find when comics write redemption arcs is the general lack of real examination of the perspective of the former villain and the inevitable return to badness they will undergo, usually within a year or two. Magneto, often trotted out as the greatest supervillain/anti-hero of all time, backpedals so much I’ve simply grown to ignore any attempt at seriousness on the part of the most recent writer to re-invent him. Megatron on the other hand absolutely absorbed me.

I don't think it'll happen but I'd be okay if Megatron and Terminus didn't come back from the Functionist Universe.
Not "didn't come back" in the sense that they died, but in the sense that him staying behind to fight the war "the right way," with the one guy at his side whose voice might've made a difference the first time, seems like a very logical jumping off point for the character after his arc came to a conclusion at the end of season 2. Further, it liberates the book - basically everything (except Cyclonus and Tailgate) operated in his orbit in s2, and with his arc at an end that really can't keep happening, but it's hard to imagine him in the series in a reduced capacity because he's frigging Megatron. And I mean, obviously, the pair of 'em would come back for the season finale.

P.S. I think IDW should start a book titled "Autobot Megatron." Just don't let Roberts write it.
In the Functionist universe, is he still considered an Autobot? Or since he went back to start the revolution did he revert back to calling himself a Decepticon again?

If the Transformers had not been so corrupt, Megatron's life would've been very different.
