What are these toys?

Postby Arjun_M » Sun May 25, 2008 5:30 am

Long ago, before I even heard of Transformers, I was gifted two toys by my uncle from Muscat. Both toys disintegrated very quickly, and I don't have anything left of them now. Here's what I remember best.

One of them was this blue car. I don't remember how the car 'transformed', but possibly it had the face upward (bonnet-top view). That car was at a scale of 1:57, before it ended up as parts of car/robot.

Then there was this teeny-weeny black plane with Japanese military markings. Possibly a Zero? Well, this one also transformed, but there wasn't much I had seen of it, and that too disintegrated. Luckily, I don't have such rotten luck with my Mirage/Soundwave Go-Bots, which still are sturdy- then again, the tailfin of Mirage was broken and both guns are gone.

Weapon: Atom-Smasher Cannon
Can you give us a date when you received these? Were they plastic or die-cast?

Possibly the late 80's. They were plastic, although some were painted by shiny metal, and they were really, really dull. With all these knockoffs roaming around for decades, each could be one of many toys.

Zero might just be the toy plane I was thinking about, if it was a single-engine craft. Maybe that's the toy.

Now I'll have to try to go way back in time to check that car model, because (what's left of) it's not with me anymore, but I remember the same colour as that of Tracks. I don't remember the colour of the face. Maybe it is Zigzag. If there was one with the head facing the same way as the roof...it could be the toy.

So those were Tonka GoBots? That's news to me. Ironically, the only other Transformers toys I have are the Transformers Go-Bots!

Wow, seeing that plane stirred up some dormant, dusty memories! I think a friend had one.
