What Colour Display Cabinet?
Good day all
I finally saved up enough money to get a specialist toy cabinet maker to do up a nice display for me. Everything is settled except for one: colour.
I am wondering what colour you guys would advise/ are currently using when it comes to Transformers. Would it be dark (such as black or dark beech) or light, along the lines of oak or cherry?
The overall paint scheme of my room (walls) is light (cream white)so convention would suggest dark furniture, but I'm thinking from the point of view of what would display the toys better.
Thanks!

It depends on the build of the cabinet. Will it have it's own built in lighting? If not, will enough light be able to get into it?
If it's lacking it's own lighting you'll want a lighter colour. If the lighting is built in it probably won't matter so much.
I've got a couple of dark cabinets, pretty deep too so it's hard to make out the figures at the back because the light isn't reaching back there.

I say it should be the same colour or close to the same colour as the location where you are putting it. Like if your room's beige, brown's a nice match, ETC.

I think you need to go with what is best for the room. In your case, a dark beech. Black looks too artificial. The figures will display well if you use adequate lighting.
This way, the overall aesthetic of the room looks good and you can turn on the cabinet lighting to really show your collection.

I just got a Billy bookcase from Ikea in white about a month ago. Just have to watch putting white characters in the back. I'm looking at you, Classics Jetfire!

Re: What Colour Display Cabinet?
Wow guys
I'm really grateful for all your responses! Good points all. I'm moving away from the black now, and going for more of a brown. Although the darkness of the shade will still need to be decided. I will have LED lighting in there. It won't be on all the time, so your advices on darkness is definitely well taken.
My only consideration at this point is, this is going to be in my office. My wall definitely don't be dark because I need to keep things bright for work and mental happiness
My other major showpiece is my custom made bookcase. For this, a nice dark brown makes sense to me. However I am not sure how it would sit with light wall, dark bookcase, and then light toy display cabinet.
Anyway, that shows you the lack of interior design confidence I have. Thanks again!

My room's baby blue, and ALL my cupboards are brown... About this brownAnd it dosent really clash. I also have black racks above my bed where i put TFs.
Living rooms beige-ish and furniture there is brown too. Basically brown goes well with close to everything, maybe except pink and red

I have light walls and most of my furniture ans art is balc and white. I bought black shelves for my display. I like the contrast of the black shelves and the colorful figures. Brown wood finishes don't let the figures "pop" as much.
Just my opinion.

Ooooh, I totally want one of those. However, if I were getting a custom display cabinet built I think I would want them to be finished in "Ark Orange" (that weird orange color in all the ark and Cybertron interior shots from the G1 cartoon) at least on the inside.

What is Ark Orange? Any pics? You can see I'm considering ALL possibilities!

Its all over the G1 cartoons anywhere the autobots hung out, although the color is more of a weird grayish purple for the Decepticon base.
It might not work for everyone's decor, but when I was a kid I displayed my TF's in a plastic shelf that I had decorated as the autobots' headquarters with Omega Supreme at the bottom. So, I always kind of pictured doing something similar if not a bit more professional looking and less cardboard now. I could imagine it getting a little "doll house"/ overly play set looking if yer not careful.
