Can't say I have a favourite name as TF names are generally just pulled from a dictionary but certain names do fit certain characters. Onslaught for the military commander or Blurr for the speedster, for example, suit.

I actually still like the Japenese names, and I don't understand the hate either. I think Animated Bulkhead and Ironhide should've had their Japenese names.

Megatron. Ok it sure sounds evil, but it actually goes deeper, a lot like Optimus Prime's name does.

Mega - something big, powerful. Also means 1,000,000 when used as a measurement
Tron - words that end in "Tron" are usually particle accelerators\chambers. Which is extremely descriptive since G1 Megatron has a Fusion Cannon and a particle beam cannon.

So not only does his name sound awesome, but kinda makes sense.

You're not an idiot. I always thought that 'Megatron' meant something like 'awesome robot'.

Metroplex is a fun word, even though it was the name of a crap cinema in my town.

I agree (not with the idiot part!). Those two names are cool and make sense when analysed. Names like Cheetor are just too obvious although choosing a name based on your appearance kind of makes sense but I always wondered why they didn't stick with the name they had on Cybertron, OP and Megatron did. Now that I think about it, being called Swindle ought to be a bit of a drawback.

As others have stated, Megatron is a very cool name and DOES make a lot of sense in multiple ways.

As far as my personal favorites, I would say....

Ironhide, Skywarp, Starscream, Cyclonus, Mirage and Ultra Magnus have great names. There are other good ones, but those are my personal tops.

Also, amongst those G2 cars that had engines which became guns, I always thought Windbreaker should have been "Autobot Crack Patrol" rather than Skram.

IMO, no Transformer has had a more badass name than Omega Supreme. Even the way I mangled it the first time I saw the toy in stores and dutifully reported it back to the kids at school the next day isn't too bad. Why, I think it would even make a good username on a message board. :lol:

Worst, anything that changes the name of an existing character for silly legal clearance issues. For example, changing Bluestreak to Silverstreak? Bleh, no thanks. Might've been an okay name for a new character, but not for a character fast as a bluestreak who talks a bluestreak.

Also bad, most anything containing "blast" other than Blaster.

Some of the cool names actually have real meanings behind them.
Of course, as Amelie said about Megatron, "mega" usually means powerful or substantial, and if am correct it comes from Latin. Then, of course it is a prefix for 1,000,000 in the metric system of weights and measures. Then "tron" is used in particle accelerator names.
Optimus Prime's name is also is derived from Latin. "optimus" means "the best" and "prime" means "of the first".
Then there is Ultra Magnus (very epic name). In Latin, "ultra" means "beyond" and "magnus" means "great". I find it very fitting for his character.
Oddly, "rodimus" means "active erosion" in Latin.
And, of course, "primus' means "the very first". Very very fitting, isn't it? It is also where the word "prime" is derived from.
Thought this was kind of interseting.
