So I am really regretting quitting collecting a few years back. I had gotten out of collecting TF's and sold off my Classics collection I had amassed at the time, I stopped around the time Classics Prowl was released.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I started looking at what the toy line was up to these days, and I decided to start collecting the Masterpiece line now that the 2.0 molds are coming out, figured it would be a good time to get in.
The issue is, I'm now seeing all the awesome figures that came out in the Classics line towards the end of the classics 2.0 line and I'm kicking myself in the ass, being a huge G1 fan.
For me to start re-collecting the Classics figures now will cost me an arm and a leg it seems.
So I'm trying to figure out where would be a good place for me to start up at this time with the Deluxe size toys and since I'm really out of the loop I figured I'd ask for advice from you more knowledgeable folks.
My question is, can I expect some sort of re-boot to the classics line that will see hasbro and takara pump out a new set of classics toys with all the classic characters?
Or should I forget about an eventual re-release of the classics line and face the reality of having to hunt down each of the Classics line figures?
I'm thinking of just cutting my losses and starting with the Fall of Cybertron and War for Cybertron line since it's what's more readily available, and then just focus on future lines.
Any advice for someone starting back up, how would you guys focus on getting back into the game at this point? Which current and future line-up should I focus on? It's just so confusing with Classics, Classics 2.0, 3.0, Generations, etc I'm not sure what's what anymore.
Also one last thing - When did Classics Dirge and Thrust come out? Target.com is telling me all stores in my area have those 2 in stock but I suspect that's wrong....from searching online it looks like they came out in late 2010....I'm a Seekers fan so those are 2 figures I'm dead set on hunting down and I'm really surprised they are only selling for $20 or so online when other Classics figures are already fetching $80+
I'm just a little lost with everything I've missed out on and need advice on which direction to take. Thanks for any assistance!
Where should I start collecting over again?

This.
I would advise you buy toys of characters you like and looking wich version of him/her you like best.
Also keep an eye for the new figures

And Dirge and Thrust were sold in the Generations 2010 line.

This might seem like a shameless self plug but you should look for people who are in the same place you were in a few years ago. I'm selling most of my collection including some of the Classics compatible stuff but the actually Classics I'm hanging on to literally to avoid the situation you're currently in if I change my mind. People who are looking to get out sell harder to find stuff for (usually) less than the market price just to get rid of it. I've still got hundreds of them from G1 up but if someone offered my like $2,500+ for the lot, I'd help load them into their car! Go to the BST and look for someone who's looking to get out. Feel free to PM me if you're looking for specific things but the best thing to do is be patient and look around.

Yeah, getting back with the Generations figures is a though chore. I'm just happy I got them when they where new. Nowadays that line stand for financial boo-boo.
Just stay up to date with whatever is coming out and keep an eye out for bargains.

Re: Where should I start collecting over again?
Thanks for the suggestions! yeah, I never should have sold my classics when I had them, I really regret it. It was my first time getting into collecting transformers and I spent a little more than I should have, too quickly, and found myself in a position where I had to get rid of them at some point.
I'm in a better position now and looking to get back into it is definitely a chore if I want to get back the classics figures I sold. There's just so many lines of toys that I have to figure what WHAT i want to collect now. I'm going to focus primarily on Masterpiece line, but I'll pick up the Generations figures as they come out....and HOPEFULLY, over time, slowly rebuild my Classics collection..
Luckily it seems most of these toys' prices, although some can be a little high, the prices stay relatively the same so they are not so much unaffordable, it's just getting past the thought of spending $200-300+ for a piece of plastic. Patience, is key, I guess.

The new figures might have a spot on your collection like:
TF Prime Ultra Magnus

The Generations figures that are coming for the US:

And the Fall of Cybertron figures:

That's the first I've seen of the Prime Ultra Magnus. Any word on a state side relase or is this an up and coming Takara exclusive?
