I really hope they never do an Animated SG set. That seems like a really cheat-y way to get by for a year. If they're going to do Animated, do new characters and new ideas.

I agree. I'd rather they do more "This was going to be in Season 4 if we could have done it" style sets like Stunti-Con Job if they do more Animated.

We'll have to agree to disagree, as the series set up pretty early on that Cybertronians(at least Autobots) were protoformed to standard chassis styles(see Bumblebee/Wasp/Cliffjumper and Ratchet/Ironhide) that were identical in appearance other than colors and the occasional head. I wouldn't be surprised if post-Megatron's arrest those that shared chassis styles with Optimus' team would get their alt-modes changed to the earth modes, too.

Derrick J. Wyatt and Marty Isenberg have stated that the events of the Botcon comic were written to tie into the stuff they were working on for the 4th season before it was cancelled.

Thats entirely different. You're disagreeing with a point I wasn't trying to make. Getting an autobot out of another autobot mold works. That to me, was really just a good explanation as to why they look similar. It was almost a homage to the fact many transformers originated as repaints. I'm sure they could have made new models for them, but to keep what was done in the past, they didn't. So, they played off of that with Wasp.
The stunticons weren't repaints of anybody though. They were original molds. They took these stylized molds meant, mostly for autobots and shoehorned them to be the stunticons. They have to then take on the character traits of what their original mold was. I mean, dragstrip became a girl. Rodimus has such a unique flair, it's hard to see that toy as breakdown. Poor Wilderider, he's all frakenstein looking. I'd hate to see warpath forced into the shockwave mold, because they're both tanks. So suddenly warpath is a double agent?

Actually, it makes sense in context of the storyline for Botcon(except maybe Wildrider). They're pretending to be Autobots(who are pretending to be Decepticons) to put on Sentinel Magnus' show(meant to demoralize the 'Cons in Trypticon while entertaining the masses to strengthen his claim to Magnus) while planning a breakout. So them using Autobot chassis styles reinforces that act(except, again, poor Wildrider, but he's the director not one of the "actors") and convinces others that they ARE Autobots, symbols be damned.

That's a story explanation for the lack of new molds. Had they gotten new molds, then the story would have been different.
