What you saw was probably the rarest Transformer you will ever see. A pre-production proposal-stage mockup. They are done on shortest possible deadlines, "Give me 5 alternative box designs by 5:00pm today" type deadlines. The only reason you saw a toy in it was because because 1)they were redoing Hot Rod or because 2)the dealer stuck it in there to match the box art. You saw a piece of TF history at its earlist conceptual stage. Poopy indeed...
It was poop. It was a dealer trying to cash in on the fact that Targetmaster HotRod had not been released in Japan yet. He had one loose and decided to make a box for it. Simple as that. If it was a REAL preproduction mockup by Hasbro for $1000 Fumihiko Akhiama(the shows organizer) would have bought it before the doors opened to the public.
