Why Do The Movie Score And Prime's Face Seem So Sad?
I don't get why some hate or are indifferent towards the Transformers movie score. To me, parts of it, like "Autobots Descend", make it one of the best movie scores ever written. It goes right to the heart.
But I have to admit, I sometimes feel sad when I listen to it. It seems to have a sad and tragic tone to it. Is it just me?
Same with Prime's face. His face looks so sad for some reason. Sad and worn out. ET also had a sad look to him throughout his movie. And look what happened to him. So I'm wondering if this is all forshadowing to a tragedy that will befall Prime in the sequels. Is something horrible going to happen to Prime? Is he going to die?

Re: Why Do The Movie Score And Prime's Face Seem So Sad?
The reason Primes face looks sad is because he has seen his entire Planet go through war which is still continuing and has probably seen close friends die and if you read the Movie prequel you will find out that he says he will never forgive himself after seeing what happened to Bumblebee.
So he's been through alot.
So he's been through alot.

You could've put tags around that ET spoiler. Some of us haven't seen that film.
But indeed, Arrival to Earth and The Allspark have a very dramatic and serious tone to them. I for one like it, but it is a huge departure from the happy Hair Metal heard in TFTM 1986. It fits modern action epics but doesn't immediately scream: "TF Movie Score!"

Re: Why Do The Movie Score And Prime's Face Seem So Sad?
Are you referring to the part where Megs destroys Bumblebee's voice box? If so, then why does Prime just flat out abandon him when Sector 7 captures him?
I do feel sorry for Prime. Poor guy's been through and seen enough. It's surprising that he still has his sanity left after all those eons of war. I'm still wondering if some terrible tragedy is going to befall him in the future, with the potential of costing him his life.
He just seems as if he is in need of some great source of happiness. Elita One? Hey, maybe when Elita One shows up in the movie continuity, she'll be portrayed like Prime: sad and having been through enough. But when they both meet, each will be a source of joy to the other? Ok, again, I'm a sucker for romance.

Sorry. I thought everyone's seen ET or at least knows its plot. It's like talking about the first three Star Wars movies.
Yeah, I'm greatful they didn't use the Hair Metal, though I found many of the other songs used in the movie somewhat distracting and unnecessary. But this is Michael Bay, and he seems to really love to put random and frequent rock songs in his movies.
The score is not what one would quite expect for a Transformers flick. Some people were probabely expecting something more along the lines of Star Wars. But I don't think that would have worked for a movie that is SUPPOSED to be more edgy and have a more serious (less space opera) tone. I say SUPPOSED, because the humor in the movie got out of hand and detracted from the serious drama. That, in my opinion, was one of the movie's week points.

Re: Why Do The Movie Score And Prime's Face Seem So Sad?
The score was perfect for the movie...this is about a war that has ravaged one planet already and now spread to another, earth and the tone of the score is reflected in each scene accordingly from light hearted when sam and his friend were at the lake trying to impress mikaela to a more action oriented sequence in the movie.
Primes face as well as the other bots had certain "ticks" tweaks and movements to express each scene, I'm not saying by any means it was perfect and maybe more could have been done but that would have meant a bigger budget and a lot more time to render them on the computers and they simply were not granted any more time or money.
I think things will be different in TF2, maybe not a quantum leap but even more detail, these are the types of movies you really can't see just once and say things like the special effects sucked because there are so many nuances that get missed.
It took me three viewings and a "oh really ?" moment to realize that the girl that got knocked to the ground in the final battle as Ironhide flipped over her ( one of my favorite scenes )was not mikaela but just some random girl that kind of looked like her at least to me and that scene was in slow mo!
Back to the score again...Jablonsky's score effectively drew upon the intended emotion of the scene...when bumblebee had been captured I really felt sorry for him even though he was part cgi rendered or a animatronic it's the music that really makes a scene complete.
I felt the same way in the final battle when bumblebee was damaged and he had to crawl over to give the cube to sam.
As said above I agree that Prime has been through a lot and has been fighting this war in the 2007 movie continuum for thousands of years and they are emotional thinking beings like humans are so these heavy times will get to you in various degrees from time to time.
If you were placed over in Iraq or Darfur for a year then came back honestly how would you feel ?

All the time? Prime seemed to have that sad look on his face throughout most of the movie.
Poor Prime. I wonder what would make him really happy? I don't know. Maybe a female companion?

Or at least somebody who can understand what he's going through.

Also, Darth Vader is Luke's father. I've got more plot twists, but most of them are too recent.
As for why Prime and the score was so sad...well, you wouldn't be too happy if your planet was dead would you?
