I too am a big fan of RiD, and I'd love to see it on DVD. Hopefully Disney will put it out shortly, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I don't think so. At least not outside the UK. Let's face it, Gobots was is more popular than RID, and that's saying a lot.

Why is it that only like three people in the world liked RiD?
Really, I loved it. I even taped about half of the series.

Also there are some episodes that wern't shown in correct order for RID actually. Also I hated the animation in overall.
Get Car robots if you can. TvNihon did a few episodes form the Japanese DVD set, much better than RID.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, as well. Although I have to admit that the first couple of episodes had me facepalming at the insanely cornball dialogue. But it was good, lighthearted fun, and it had some entertaining gimmicks thrown in to it - the character-specific, fighting game-esque special attacks were a particularly cool addition, as was the inclusion of designated subgroups on either side. And, of course, it was the first series to feature the Nemesis Prime character (and yes, I know he was called Scourge in RiD). That alone should be enough to warrant any TF fan's respect, in my opinion. It was also the only show to be set entirely in Japan (at least I'm pretty sure - still haven't watched Masterforce, Victory, or the Japanese Beast Wars shows yet). On top of all that, it has one of the coolest Megatron/Galvatron designs (and toys) in the entire mythology. Seriously, 6 freaking modes as Megs, and 10 as Galvatron? Especially for a Predacon design, you just can't top that.
I'd imagine it's the humor, anime art style, and human element that turned most people off. You basically have to be able to enjoy lighthearted anime humor and, well, anime in general to "get" the show. Koji, the human protagonist, is pretty much useless as a character, but at least he doesn't get in the way much. He pretty much just stands there talking to Optimus occasionally, and that's it. He's not like the oft-maligned Kicker who rode into battle with the Autobots or G1's Spike, who factored into the plot for way too many G1 episodes than was necessary. But still, watching the show as an adult, you know that his being there with them is totally unrealistic, because he has absolutely nothing to contribute to the Autobots. He can't even repair them or help fortify their base like the Cybertron kids, or even interact with diminutive robot characters like the kids from Armada. He literally just exists, in every episode.
But if you familiarize yourself with anime, and you can come to enjoy lighthearted fare such as DBZ or Pokemon, there's absolutely no reason why a person wouldn't like the show. It's unique in the TF canon for being the transition period between the Beast Era and what was arguably the revival of Transformers for a new generation in Armada, as well as being the only TF series produced & shown initially in Japan and then ported over to the States.
And besides, Sky-Byte. Need I say more?
