I like the upgrade sets too, still.

After putting them away, I don't know what FP was thinking with Menasor. Why make everything so needlessly complicated and unforgiving? The look is great after assembly, but getting there and getting back is just not something I'm likely to do again.

I didn't know UT's Ambomnious also damaged the joints after uncombining.

I still view TFC's Herc favorably, but REALLY regret buying the first releases. I should have waited. That waist problem is pretty bad, tho. Maybe one day I'll try my luck again. I used some metal ratchets from shapeways and they just didn't work. I have the fixed ones installed, but have never actually tested them out and never plan to.

I once owned Screecher, the Heart of Steel "Starscream". He was not fun to play with, he was a pain to transform, and he was made out of LITERAL KNIVES. Seriously, you can shed BLOOD transforming the damn thing. All for a pretty meh vehicle.

was that Mastermind Creations' verions? That's the only HOS Starscream I know of.

was that Mastermind Creations' verions? That's the only HOS Starscream I know of.

It's not that bad, but its not good either. The mold is on clearance at BBTS if anyone is curious.

Ah, right! I do own that one and his mold mates. it's been a while since I've gotten the instructions out. And yeah, I remember nicking myself transforming him the one time I did. They look great, and are made of solid plastic. But have gloves at the ready!

I still kinda want one of those, kinda. The robot modes are just awesome and pretty decently poseable IIRC, and the vehicle modes, whilst absolutely nothing like a real triplane (or any real world aircraft ever ever ever) are wacky and silly in just the right way. I like to think of them as Cybertronian vehicles from ages gone by when even the Transformers' technology was in its infancy.

Can confirm. I don't know what MMC was thinking with these guys when it came to edges.

But honestly, they don't belong on a thread talking about the worst third-party toys.

I agree and disagree. I agree that they are NOT the "worst". However, clearly unsafe toys deserves a mention.

So, X-transbots did a small Turbo, the guy from Go-Bots, named Sonic. And wow this thing is bad. The plastic is thin and cheap, feels like I was gonna crush him in my hand. Transformation is scary, moving the parts together it felt like the limbs were gonna break. I could never get it tabbed together properly. And one day the arm came off for no real reason. Into the circular file it went!

Yeah, that guy's a real stinker. Bad first experience with X-Trans; their bigger figures are typically better, but the smaller ones like "Sonic" can be pretty dodgy.
