Doesn't have to; alot of G1 alt modes were real cars.

I nominate this guy
Protoform Prime was so bad that I never even had the urge to cave in and buy him, like I have done with figures such as Armada Smokecreen and Cybertron Runamuck...

Real cars of the 80s.
Binaltech focused on present cars.
Such as Prowl/Silverstreak from the Japanese Legend car Fairlady Z of the 70s-80s to the modern Subaru Impreza.
Hound, from Willys military GP of WWII era, to the modern Jeep Wrangler.
They were not G1 purist. None of the vehicles are from the G1 era.

Too bad they didn't/couldn't make them 350Z -- would've been vastly preferable IMO.

The first Binaltech using Subaru Impreza came out 2003. That means the design and development of the toy could be sometime in 2001 or 2002.
Did the 350Z came out at the time?

IIRC the 350Z came out in 2003, maybe 2002 at the earliest.

That means there's no time to make Smokescreen into 350Z.
But Hasbro could have used 350Z later on other bots. There's no Nissan yet in the Binaltech line up.

Well sure, but alot of those lines exist even today, or have "spiritual" successors, like in Cliffjumper's case.
A Volkswsagen bug would have been cool for Bumblebee, but I'm already aware that VW has objections. Too bad, though.

For top 3 worst Primes:
1.)Tie - Machine Wars Prime & Alternaters/Binaltech Prime
2.)Energon Prime - I know beauty is skin deep, but when it comes this Prime I'm shallow.
3.)Cyper Stomper Prime - Trying make movie Prime, who made 2 year old cousin cry, cute just makes dust collectors in the toy isle. Dust collectors that sound like Peter Cullen.

Worst figure with the name Optimus Prime is pretty easy:
http://www.tfu.info/1995/Autobot/OptimusPrimeGobot/optimusprime.htm
Super-lame repaint! They could have at least used Motormouth as a base(more commonly known as Spychanger Ironhide).
And Megatron had an equally lame repaint:

I can't believe someone called Protoform Prime the worst. That figure rocks! It has more articulation and detail than anything else in my whole collection.
As for worst

It just isn't Prime. From the lack of any resemblance of a Prime, to the neutered battle platform, the figure just isn't a good Prime.
I can't help but think it would make a great Ultra Magnus though

shame, we could have got Lohan in the film too. Her making out with Megan Fox on top of BB would have increased my love of the film A Whole Lot. Also, he could have given the VW flames!
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

yeah Machine Wars Prime takes the cake as worst Prime, the GoBots Prime only looks that way because of Hasbro's perception of what the Gobots toys were, crappy. But after reading Skywarp-2's thread on the subject of GoBots, I see that Hasbro has really done their best to make that name, Gobot, synonomis with crappy transformable robot toys, when in actuality the original lines, from Tonka, were nothing like that.

The Chaos Bringer - WTF is that thing? What line, I mean....I've checked out a ton of galleries, but never stumbled across that monstrosity before. Makes the Classics Deluxe look like a goddamn Masterpiece Prime by comparison.
