Would anyone freak out if they did a live action G1 movie?
- Weapon: Cluster Bombs
People will hate me but I was hoping for a CG live action movie that was faithful to G1... It's fantasy and fiction after all so why would this annoy anyone unless they have a stick up their bum..
If that ever happpened would people get angry about it? Or would picky geeks tear it to shreds?

I'd get angry about it. I mean, we've seen it all before. The same story, the same designs, we'd know what happens. G1 is kind of short on explosions. It's just robots standing behind cover shooting. We got that in ROTF in the "precious cargo scene" and I thought that scene was freaking awesome. So, maybe it could work, but I don't want to see that all the time for 4 movies straight.
I Am.

I actually had an idea a lot like that. I mean, they should change a few plot details and update the designs a leetle bit, but if they kept it within the G1 continuity family, I think freakouts would be at an all-time low for a Transformers movie. Of course, some fans will never be pleased.

I, probably the one most loyal Bayfans on the site, wouldn't mind this. I would more like the classics series to have their own full continuity, using their own modern designs...maybe in cutting edge CGI? However, I still encourage evolution and innovation, so I think the best way is to try something entirely new. I believe that is the only way the brand can survive and succeed. We can't stay in the past and cling to it, then refuse to embrace evolution.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

What mainly bugs me is that I just don't think the G1 look fits a real life movie.
I'm a huge movie fan, but I wouldn't mind at all, just don't think it'd work.

We're talking a fantasy universe of giant lumbering robots that talk, and are alive... Yet that's not beyond what people can accept? Strange.

If it was simply the '86 movie in CGI, i couldn't wait to see it on theaters. Especially since then it could also be in 3D. Now imagine the epic battle with Unicron at the end; or better yet, Unicron's transformation in 3D!
Good Primus, that would be so-o awesome!

I agree. The whole simplified, blocky look in real rife situations and real people and real life vehicles just doesn't add up. To me, it would be like watching cartoons on with a real life backdrop.

I think that it would work, and your last sentence is exactly why. The entire story of the Transformers is based on an absurd idea, and yet somehow we accept it as realistic when the robots aren't G1-y. Really, like 'alien' robot designs couldn't look like Megatron from RiD, or like the G1 -masters where they were all futuristic or Cybertronian-type vehicles? No, it's unbelievable because Optimus looks like a man wearing a shirt covered in truck parts? But it's not too much of a suspension of disbelief when Starscream is diamond shaped and Arcee looks like she got pulled through some kind of metal elongating apparatus? That's fine, because we have human characters to help us relate to the story, but anthropomorphised robots are just unbelievable?
I think a live action 86 movie would stink, but that's because someone mentioned a 3D CGI version of the 86 movie, and now I want that. And I'm not even a fan of 3D movies, but 86 in the third dimension? Sign me up. Aside from that, I dont think a live 86 movie would work because we got the Bay movies now. For better or for worse, the Bay movies will probably always define Transformers in a real world setting. Think about how dopey the CG in The Phantom Menace was when you remember seeing Star Wars as a kid with the model TIE fighters and such. Like, those of us who are over 25 probably, where the only available Star Wars movies were the original ones.

Something about the block look and human faces, just to me, doesn't seem like it'd go right in real life. Though there's probably other ways they could adapt, I think they would end up similar to the movies or WFC in the final look.

I don't want to sound like I've really put too much thought into the idea, but the whole "They're aliens so they are SUPPOSED to look like aliens" debate is kind of insensitive. It assumes that only humans would have this general body plan and appearance, and in a way it is a form of xenoracism. While Nature does tend towards rounder shapes like trees and forearms, it shouldn't really be inconcievable that an alien species even if they are robots would be more block shaped. In fact, block shapes would fit together tighter than would round ones when compressing a body for transformation, like how a stack of boxes fits together better than a stack of soda cans.
I realize that this is absurd, but for some reason I could not resist.

I don't think it wouldn't be possible realistically, but it's mainly for a movie, about how good it would look. Everything nowadays seems to be overly complicated and detailed so that's how movies are made to look when involving robots.

They need to have the same range of motion humans do, they can't do that when their bodies are big solid blocky pieces. It's like wearing a suit made of cardboard boxes.

I guess the reason why I don't think G1 = realism is because after already seeing G1, I've made up my mind that I don't personally think that alien robots would look that if they did exist. I mean, they were in an anime world after all.
I don't think they HAVE to look a certain way, because they are aliens. I just don't see the G1 guys in real life. They would just look like cartoons to me.
Then again, do they HAVE to look just like G1? Do they HAVE to be anime? They can look like G1 but they don't have to. They can look like the movieverse but they don't have to. The possibilities are endless.
There's my two cents.

Err, you messed up the quote, or it messed itself up, pretty sure I wasn't the one who said that. And anyhow, in response to it, I suppose as far as today's standards, anthromorphized robots might just be unbelievable. Everything today has the pointlessly overcomplicated(but sometimes cool) look so not much of the general public wants to see the human look.
I'm guessing anyways...

I wouldn't mind a G1 type movie, as long as they tweeked it a little...
For example, I did a drawing of G1 Starscream a few years ago. I based him off of his Masterpiece design, but I wanted to make him look 'differant.'
Instead of making him look blocky, I drew him such that he had a body made of metal bones and tubes with metallic 'skin' stretched over some places. He has the normal wings, head and other Seeker features, but they are made to look like a part of a metal-based life form, a living robot. A robot that was 'grown' for war. If you brushed your hand against him while he was in jet mode, you'd be touching a part of his exoskeleton. (I wish I could show the picture, but I don't have a scanner at the moment.)
The idea would be G1, but hard-tweeked. Know what I mean?

Yes. If I am lucky, the local library might have a scanner. If not, then I might have to show the close-up pictures that I tried to take with a camera. I signed up onto DeviantArt, but I don't have anything on it yet. I would love it if a G1 styled live action movie were made, written with someone who's actually familiar with the G1 universe, its storylines, characterisatons and all that, and actually wanted to write a screenplay about the cybertronians rather than the humans that get caught in the crossfire.
But sadly seeing as none of the above is likely to happen at all ever I'd rather not think too hard about it as it would be a bit masocistic, heh.
Although, having said that, maybe once Bay has finished fething it all up on the big screen someone else will come along and do a big reboot movie that will garner critical acclaim in much the same way as 'Batman Begins' did for the Batman franchise....
....nah.

Please no. The 80's style animation is part of 86's charm. It'd lose half its soul if it was remade in CG. Besides, why remake it? It's fine as it is. If there was a full CGI Transformers movie, I'd want it to be its own thing. Not necessarily its own franchise (especially not with TF:Prime around now), but its own story.
