Think it seems kinda pointless considering Takara released a Kabaya Overlord in a similar scale Image

When those Takara WST TF toys first came out. I bought a whole bunch of them. Then a year later got bored of them all and got rid of them. Have no interest on buying this WST Overlord.

I thought you wanted Overlord badly ? Scale doesn't matter, right ? Scale is just some crazy OCD stuff that collectors from Miami dreamed up, right ? So you got Overlord...be happy.

Over at TFW, Some are reporting it's a exspensive priced garage kit that sells for ¥15,000.

I don't believe this is WST. I believe this is Kabaya Gum.

I have the Fort Max. Where this option is great is for those of us who do not wish to spend a couple of grand on G1 iterations of these characters. They are fun to fiddle with, and are great representations of the characters, if small. I have no room for Fort Max. (He is even a Headmaster, though Cerebros is not also a Headmaster.) But I like the character and the transformation. For less than $30 I got me a small Fort Max to play with. I am seriously considering these others as well because I am watching the Victory series right now. it would be fun to have representations of the characters in my collection without getting the accountant in a huff.

These are not pointless. You may not like them, Tsut, and not want them, but they are far from pointless. (Another example of stating your opinion as fact, by the way.)

I said it was pointless creating a extremely similar product. Meaning the the Garage kit WST Overlord was similar to the Kabaya Overlord.

I purposely put the word, Think, in all of my threads and replies. So most know it's my opinion and not fact.

So, wait, WST is KOing the Kabaya Gum kits? My apologies, Tsut. I must have misread your posts initially...

This is not a KO of the Kabaya kit.
It's a garage kit, very likely done for an upcoming Wonerfest in Japan, which means it will be officially licensed by Takara to use Trademarks and designs.
WST is not a KO company, but a fan term for the really old blind boxed line actually called "Smallest Transformers" by Takara in the early 2000s. Loads of companies and customisers have since extended the line by releasing either kits or full blown figures in the same scale.

Ah, so it's become a scale term, not a product definition. That makes sense. I got WST Thrust years ago and more recently the Kabaya Fort Max. They are definitely very different. So, would this be the Kabaya kit, just licensed by Takara? Sorry if this makes me seem dense. This looks identical to the Kabaya kit. I think that's why I am confused. #-o

No, the Kabaya kits are already official products.

The sale of fan-made products by artists is illegal in Japan, to get around that law Takara (along with other companies) give out special one day licenses to artists. With these licences the creator in question can make and officially sell something at the Wonderfest conventions. The licence includes the appearance, the official names and branding. The packages also come with a "Licenced by TakaraTomy" branding.
Most of the time these products are garage kits, special kits hand-made by someone out of resin hence garage kit due to the garage often being the hobby room, they are pretty expensive and fragile.

It is also not identical to the Kabaya kit, it is similar, since both are based on the same character, but there are differences.
The shoulders, the legs, the head, the base mode and the jet and tank mode. The power-masters while very similar, are also different, they actually seem to have arms, they also don't sit in the cockpits as well as they do on the Kabaya version.

Ahhhh, that makes so much more sense. Thanks, DM! I didn't get the Overlord Kabaya, so I was going off of my memory of those kits when I was interested. I certainly didn't see the differences in the original pics in this thread.

And from what you are saying, the increased articulation is a good differentiator from the Kabaya kits. Is there a size difference between these and Kabaya? That could be another one. At any rate, there does appear to be enough difference here to make these worthwhile for those who would like them, although $150 is pricey unless these are bigger than WST. I'd pay $150 for a deluxe to voyager representation of Overlord, even if I had to assemble him myself...

Isn't dat da cutest widdle Decepticon? :D Okay, all semi-seriousness that looks kinda nice. Good scaling down of him, there.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Going by this pic here, the Kabaya is much larger than this WST one.

This kit here is larger than your standard WST figure, since these are all done to fit in scale with each other, so this kit will dwarf the WST Optimus about as much as the original Overlord did the original Optimus.

This kit here is only worth it to those who like these types of garage kits, especially considering that getting them from outside of the con is insanely difficult and expensive.

If you want a deluxe Overlord, get the Kabaya and build it. I think there is even a custom upgrade set to give it more articulation and an idw head.
