I am new to the boards. While I am a new convert to the Transformers fandom, my husband has loved them since he was child. I am playing catch up so thought I'd ask you guys for some help. My husband never got the Transformer he really wanted when he was kid. (His parents were rather overly practical people bought him mostly socks and underware for xmas. :/ ) So this xmas I'd like to surprise him. The Transformer he really wanted but never got was Optimus Prime.

What I'd like to know is what you guys suggest to buy, Optimus wise. Things I know about what he likes. He likes the G1 Prime, he doesn't like so much when Prime is depicted with the yellow eyes, prefers the blue. I suspect he'd like the full meal deal as it were meaning trailer and all. I don't think it's important that it is vintage, re-masters are fine. This more about full filling his childhood dream.

What toy should I be looking for which version would best suit those desires. I really want this to be special for him, and total surprise. Any help will be gratefully accepted. Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome to the boards, you've come to the right place.

His wishes narrow down the possibilities to one single (albeit rare and expensive) release: New Year's Convoy. Convoy is the Japanese name of Optimus Prime. This Japanese reissue version has colors that match the show (blue eyes, blue windshield), and even has a few extras: a mouse pad, the matrix from the 1986 movie and an Action Master (non-transforming figure) version of Optimus Prime. I'd say that would make a nice desktop ornament

Thanks so much for the help. I trying to narrow down things, under covert actions of looking at pictures of different Optimus incarnations and getting more specifics. We girls of so sneaky.

If necessary here's another suggestion: Powermaster Optimus Prime. A "reborn" Optimus Prime, putting the smaller "Powermaster" in his grille unlocks his transformation. The Trailer transform into a full-blown base, first of its kind. He can even combine with his trailer into a super robot. More still, The Apex Bomber splits apart and combines with Optimus Prime into Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor

This one's a great second choice, not just because he looks like the 1984 original, but he's also more available. The Japanese reissue especially (who is technically a different character) is easy and cheap to come by, but the US reissue is just as good.
