Takara have had lots of time to make Megatron. I would like to see what a Megatron that was designed in more than 12 days would look like. After Quakewave proved a massive hit with fans and 3rd parties started making MP scaled figs, they must have known this was coming. Megatron is probably the most requested entry to the line since MP-10 and nothing has appeared. X-Transbots are taking a big risk and I really hope they pull it off.

The same can be said for all of the 3rd party TF toys some-most here buy. But apparently some-most don't wait for HasTak and buy the 3rd party TF toys anyways.

youre missing the point. takara revamped the line, already redid two previous figures from the line (prime and starscream) so a revamped megatron to follow suit is logical no? especially after the gold reissue.

All MP Starscream got was a retool to the existing mold from years ago.

Optimus Prime got a newer toy for the MP line because he is the, Main Star patriarch of the entire TF brand.

recolors and reissues are vastly different then creating a brand new toy from scratch.

If it was logical for arch rivals to get counterparts toys in the MP toy line. We would have got a Galvatron, Shockwave, Scorponok for other MP TF toy characters.

MP-09, MP-10 and MP-13 are all part of the MP new scale. Yet Takara hasn't released fighting counterparts like MP Blaster, MP Galvatron and Smaller scale MP Megatron.

you say they only made a second version of prime because he's the poster boy for the brand? i think a megatron to go with him is just as important. i feel they have a vision of where this line is headed, thats why we got MP10, and they got lucky with MP09.

I'm also skeptical about another Tak Megatron myself. I would love to see it of course, and will buy it if it happens but will also be watching this as it looks pretty good. I am doubtful of it because I could see it being an issue of sales outside of Japan being difficult. (Yes I am aware that Japan is enough of a market.)
Also with the gold release it strikes me as a "here's your Megatron." Would they put that out and turn around and update the figure? I wasn't thrilled at the time about having to buy another Optimus, I could see similar resentment in this case. Just my speculation..

I reckon Megatron's gun mode could make a neo-MP Megs difficult, at least being released outside of Japan. I expect Takara will do a Megatron 2.0, but I have doubts it will be released outside Japan, even through online retailers.

This does look good though, no doubt about it.

My guess is Megatron, or at least pics and preorders for him, will show up next year.

Except they don't have a clear vision of where the line is headed. They never even considered doing Wheeljack until the Sideswipe and Prowl molds were such a hit. They cranked out enough repaints to justify a figure with next to no repaint options (which they still had to make up a BS repaint option for) and Bumblebee took until they worked out the rights with Volkswagen. Ultra Magnus had to have a proof of concept made out of a G1 Magnus and an MP-10 and Starsaber was a fans choice poll winner. There's no order or plan to it, they're not building up to the Avengers. The only way a prior release has any influence on upcoming ones is if they're repaints. That seems awfully cynical.

In the real world, sure, Takara has to balance their ability to acquire official licenses with the need to crank out characters with easy repaint opportunities. I'd be very surprised if we didn't see a Slicer redeco out of Wheeljack.

Still, I think it's pretty ridiculous to say that Takara doesn't have a vision for the line.

i heard after the success of the lambos and datsuns, they didnt have to justify a new mold by having multiple repaints or retools. exhaust seems to be a "why not". and theres no reason to insult the figure as he has a lot of appeal to the fandom. enough to justify its existence anyways.

getting the rights for a BB volkswagon has been in the works since alternators/binaltech, which they probably made a big push for to get it in the current MP line.

youre right, it can be a grab bag quite often. but how you can deny the trend is strange. MP10 and on have almost all been G1 season 1 bots. and weve gotten four licensed vehicles out of if. again, if i were a betting man, id say they are actively trying to fill out the original G1 cast, one license at a time if they have to.

I think there is vision for the line, but any vision needs to be tempered by reality.
Takara has to run a business, and it is a lot easier to justify a mold with many repaint/retool options than a limited use mold. For many of the characters, they have to be concerned with licensing rights as well.

For those characters where they have been shown to have the licensing agreements I expect we will see the characters, Megatron included.

For those characters where no license is required, because they are not based on real world alt modes, I expect we will see those too.

It is the characters where they have had trouble getting the licenses in the past (ie. Shockwave) where I suspect we might not see them pop up in the line.

That's 20 releases, 8 new molds (counting each cassette individually), 1 completely overhauled mold, and 14 repaints. And that's not counting Black Rodimus, Grimlock and Megatron reissues, American releases, upcoming releases like Skywarp, and all the various other times things have been put out again.

Look, I want most of the Ark crew as bad as anyone. Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, CLiffjumper, Brawn, Sunstreaker, and the rest but that would be a 15-20 year plan at this point. By the time they get to Trailbreaker and Windcharger I'll have 2 girls in college! And they seem to be taking shortcuts now. I doubt we'll ever get a real 3 bot Reflector since they're doing the small diecast one with the gold Megatron. The point is, I honestly don't think we're ever going to get everybody so when a good substitute like Apollyon comes along, that's my Megatron. If MP-376 ends up being Megatron, great, I'll pick it up but I'm not holding my breath.

I actually kind of agree with you.
I *DON'T* think they will get to the entire G1 cast, for one reason or another.

Some may never get approved licensing, others, like Reflector, might just be way, way, way down on the list. That is especially true now that they have broken form and moved on to Japanese-only show characters. The poll that resulted in StarSaber had stuff from other series on it too, which means they are thinking about branching into other eras beyond the US and Japanese G1 era.

But I think G1 Megatron is an important enough character that he is much further up on the list than Windcharger or Reflector.

Hey, I don't have a crystal ball, so I could be way off.
He could be somewhere between a 7 foot tall MP Metroplex and MP Rocklords, but I don't think so.
