So who are your favorite combiner sets both in figure form and in toon form?
I had a few combiner sets. Devs, defensor, bruticus, computron, abomanus and predaking.
I had a cousin that had almost all the other ones areal bots menaceor etc, so Ive seen them all.
My favorite combinable figures were the predicons. They were the only set that had figures of equal size, they were metal,and they were big and cool looking in bot mode as well as alt mode.
More importantly,they were awesome in prediking mode!!!
I remember being disappointed in the terrorcons. They were so tiny and fragile. They looked like crap too.
Im taking predicons/king for favorite figures.

As for favorite toon combiners Im gonna take devastator. I think the constructicons had good personality and devastator looked great!
Had they been able to deliver a more convincing toy, Id have chosen devs as my fav toy as well. Alas, they were the first of their kind and suffered a bit because of it. All things considered, devs toy still looked pretty good.
I guess I also have a soft spot for him and the constructicons because they were my first combiners and the first on thw show.

I love when this comes up.

Figure wise, Predaking is my favorite. If I have to have a second place I'll take Bruticus or Pirhanacon. I've got or had several different Bruticus sets and I honestly like the FoC Bruticus. Pirhanacon I've always loved for the the same reasons you gave for Predaking. Individually they look pretty cool, and combined I think they look excellent. Got a few versions of them as well.

Character-wise, I probably like Menasor the best. I think the Stunticons are excellent individual characters, but I think Menasor looks lame, so I always underrate him as a combiner. But really, any characterization for the teams, either combined or as individuals, in G1 at least were was always tough to come by. In the beginning there the Constructicons got a fair shake, but other than that we knew that Silverbolt was scared of heights and that Swindle was Swindle. I base my own character values off things like the MTMTE guides and stuff, or like DW/IDW comics and such.

pihanacon hu? Now theres a combiner bot Ive not heard of. Who is he, what faction forms him and what does he look like? I thought Id seen every combiner G-1 had to offer. Guess I was wrong! LOL!
Thats why I love this sight. I can learn of things I never knew in trans universe.
I also thought menasaur looked lame. The way the cars were stuck to his legs and arms never did iy for me. I also never understood where the transilvanian accent came from LOL!
I think he is alright now days though. I know Id LOVE to have the 3rd party stunticons theyre making.

My favourite combiner isn't even US G1. It's Lio Kaiser from TF: Victory. Dude was just a badass combiner and his components had really well developed personalities. Also the little breastformer chest partners was pretty neat too.

Probably Bruticus first. He's pretty badass being made up of military vehicles and a random space shuttle.

Not to mention each individual bot is very distinct and pretty badass too. Nice color scheme, pretty sturdy, overall pretty great.

Next would be Predaking. He's just freakin' huge and impressive even if his poor little hips can hardly bear the weight of his arms and torso. I only have the 2010 version so it doesn't quite count as G1 colors, but the gold/orange/black combo is freakin' sweet.

Devastator was the original! And he's cool in the cartoon and has had the most homage versions released so naturally I own a bunch of those.

As for the 'Bots... So far Superion is the only one I've really bought into, but I don't even own the G1 yet, sadly.

None of the G1 "Scramble City" combiner figures looked better IMHO than Defensor, aka the Protectobots. His combined mode proportions looked like a robot linebacker, whereas Bruticus looked like a capital H, with shoulders sticking up WAAAY too high...

I was never fond of a bunch of humanoid figures turning into one giant humanoid figure, it just seems redundant. Naturally, this means Movie Devastator is one of my favorite combiners, as none of the bots look remotely similar to each other.

I agree. Still trying to track down the Legends version of that figure.

Although my heart is with PCCs, because yes.
They're all homages or obscure character, which is nice, you can swap most limbs, the headsculpts are excellent and the Commanders are all scout-sized! Ka-blaum!

Hmmmm....I dont know if I like it or not.... What do you think vall? I think it would look better with actual dinobots.

It's PCC => I adore it.

However, once I get past the PCC aspect, it's not exactly my favourite.
The issues I have with it are that the Commander doesn't really work by himself, and the limbs are too coordinated to work with any other Commander.

Which are also its strong points. So undecided. Possibly the best combination of the PCCs, but I'm a big fan of Heavytread, Undertow and Crankcase. And Smolder. They work both as Scout-sized figures and as torsos.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what is PCC?
also holy crap so there IS a dinobot combiner that actually uses actual dinobots?
I think he looks good! I mean hes a bit japanimated and small in the waist, but if he were to be done correctly (maybe a new head) I think hell look great!
Beast hu? So, what are that guys tech specs? tens across the board with the exception of a 4 speed and a 1 intelligence Id say.

I never saw these guys though. I gotta say I love that figure! Im diggin grimstone! I guess "beast" isnt getting much love hu? LOL @ "Get outta my cannon"
IDK Why though! Were talking about a big bot that is comprised of the dinobots here folks! What could be more bad ass!! :grin:

I really like Computron. Along with Abominus. Computron in combined mode and i like the chaos of the Terrorcons in both forms.

I'm so looking forward to seeing these two combiners done by third parties proper. Computron isn't a real stretch of the imagination to give a Classics treatment too as far as 3rd party companies are involved but i really hope someone takes on the challenge of Abominus and makes him truly gruesome.

Predaking is pretty rad too. I've just yet to see him kick ass.....ever. He needs some wins under his belt.

In terms of combiner teams:

Of the scramble combiners, my favorites HAVE to be Abominus and Computron both, I couldn't pick between the two. I'm REALLY exited for the upcoming Abominus! I hope they do a Computron too!

Behind them would be Liokaiser, but not by much. He's incredibly well executed and coherent! I really hope he gets a reissue, or even a Kreon version perhaps!? Please Hasbro! :grin:

Honorable metion to Monstructor, RiD Rail Racer, and both versions of Unicron Trilogy Perceptor. Oh, and Landcross and all of the little mini-combiners his elements can form. Nifty bit of thinking on that one.

Other combiners:

Oh-ho-ho. Armada Prime, need I say more? Let's get this straight. He's a big robot. With another big robot that becomes a pair of paints with jet-heels. With ANOTHER big robot that becomes an ridiculously ginormous DOUBLE-CANNON BACKPACK OF DOOM.

RiD Omega Prime. Basically about as rough and tumble as Optimus got back when they made the 03 Universe comics (real shame they never got to finish those...). He was, at the beginning at least, the ultimate trump card. You need the toughest Optimus in the multiverse? This is your guy (er...guys)! Plus, he's shiny! :lol:

One of the few TFA designs I actually really like, Safeguard. Having a combiner made of a 'Jetstorm' and a 'Jetfire' just feels right, y'know? Besides that, the split-down-the-middle aesthetic does not get enough love.

A proper Monstructor would be nice as well. Totally agree. That Fu@*er is a force to be reckoned with in each and every appearance in any canon with terrible consequences if taken lightly. He deserves some respect.

If we are talking strictly G1 I would have to say Menasor, and Piranacon. Love that set.

However if we include all lines, there's something about R.I.D. Landfill that just hits all the right spots for me.

I also like Magmatron if yu can consider him a combiner.

He's as much a combiner as Big Powered, PCCs, or Rotf Devastator.

It's kind of a shame he came out kinda...derpy though. I would absolutely not mind seeing an updated Magmatron out of the BH or Kre-o lines.

I also just learned he has a combined 'vehicle' mode...and it's kind of awesome.

My favorite combiner I own is Road Caesar (stumpy arms and childbearing hips aside).

RID Rail Racer is a close second.

The combiner I would most love to have would be Liokaiser.

Perhaps not that beast but something like Extinction (custom) here from Frenzyrumble (with or without the Wheelie headmaster).
