Sure, the primary motivation behind producing TF cartoons was sales, but the screenwriters in the 80s still had enough ethics in them to try to convey actual story and moral purpose.
I won't say every iteration of Transformers has succeeded in this...or even tried...and I don't think the original cartoons are "high art." Still, it seems awfully simple-minded, and actually a bit like anti-capitalist paranoia to outright disregard any and all aesthetic or moral elements of a children's show just because it is on a fundamental level designed to advertise product.
He does admit he never saw the show, so I guess he concedes he might be wrong.
As for the review of the actual game, he makes some valid points about controls, especially with flight.
I disagree with him on the issue of transformation, though. I like the fact that transforming is mostly just an advanced mode of sprinting, and that they didn't try to create some kind of stunt driving shooter. I actually find it hard to go back to other shooters after being able to blitz across the whole field in a few seconds.
I guess he didn't play this on the PC, though...because the most serious complaints going on right now are the connectivity issues and the inability to block cheaters.

But yeah, I don't see why people who aren't Transformers fans seem to feel the need to point out that the cartoons and movies exist to sell toys. It's not like we aren't aware of that fact. It's not like pointing out that the G1 cartoon also had a toy-line is going to be a big revelation to us fans and snap us out of our fandom.
We know the cartoon was made to sell toys, and we don't mind.

Still, I'm going to sit and wait for all the people who haven't caught on, who are going to lash out at him for his opinion. I'm going to laugh at these people because they just don't get it.

Seriously... it's like telling wrestling fans that "it isn't real" and expecting them to stop watching.
Anyway, yeah - i know this guy's format is to crap all over most every game, but frankly, isn't the act getting tired? Especially for games that seem to be rated highly like WFC generally has.
Basically, the only times i check for Zero Punctuation vids anymore is when I've bought a game that turned out to suck... then I look to see if Yahtzee has commented on it so I can at least get a laugh about it. Last time that happened: Army of Two *shudders*

He said he learned from his Psychonauts review that no one likes it when he's nice. The idea is that he points out the flaws other reviewers gloss over or fail to notice. He'll tear a game apart simply because no one else will point out the glaring flaws it has.
Fun fact: WfC is loaded the flaws.
