Yeah, in fact even by TJ Maxx pricing it's cheaper than buying individual combiner members. It's basically the same price as buying four Deluxe limbs from them and getting the Voyager and Legend free.
(Hmm. My news credit count still says 11 even though my list says 12.)

This happens all the time. You usually have to wait an hour or so before the number actually turns over.

Found and totally picked up G2 Menasor today - I prefer the original G1's face, but could not resist this impulse-purchase at $39.99!
No Superion, but also had Motormaster and Onslaught for $15; $8 for an opened Brawl. The haul was almost as awesome feeling as finding Sky Lynx for $13.99 at RD4L!
But that still kinda grinds mah gearz, since I NEVER saw either at mainstream retailers.
Still, I'm happy to have hunted them down thanks to other collectors sharing their finds.

Though it makes me wonder at the viability of these $100+ sets. Rumor seems like they'll become a fairly common thing, yet they don't look to be doing all that well...

I'm not sure about Liokaiser since that's a Platinum set and an exclusive. The other boxsets make sense as they're general retail sold at a lot of places, but Liokaiser's... a bit different.

I found the Amazon exclusive AoE First Edition Optimus Prime at Ross last year, both variants. Anything can happen with overstock

We all want specialized sets and unique, refreshing new designs. For that to happen, to see another thing like Victorion, it needs to be supported.
If you want "exotic" fringe characters like Liokaiser, you need to support the efforts.
I think it's great if by chance, these kinds of things are on sale when finances allow for them.
However, if you're the guys who wait for stuff to go to clearance and don't support these kinds of fan-targeted specialized efforts; it's kind of scummy.

its not our fault they end up there. it's Hasbro's choice since they didn't make them more desirable.

I spend as much as I deem warrants the effort. I bought many of these titans return toys and combiner wars (and UW toys) at retail prices. But I really disliked how Combiner Wars became repaint/retool wars. To the point that now one of the first things I read on these boards when a mold is revealed is people wondering what it will be reused for. Its depressing, especially when it was only 2 years ago that we could have nice unique molds (ex: Brainstorm). Victorion was a pretty huge offender. This first female combiner is just made of slight retools of pre-existing toys, with two of them just slightly different in colour, getting away with it by having them be twins. Computron is a pretty big offender too, especially when hasbro already released voyager scattorshot, with the new one having no remolding whatsoever from the previous retail release. The effort on both those sets is low and reaks of opportunistic vibes. Liokaiser is in that same pack, where we have to "settle" for this temporary liokaiser while we wait for one to be made correctly one day. If hasbro saved some money developing these by reusing what they already had available, I dont see why I shouldnt also try to save money procuring them. I vote with my wallet. If Hasbro wants me to pay full price, they better up their game. I had 0 problems preordering UW computron and I would have had no problem giving that money to Hasbro if they had delivered. If you have ever purchased a Takara item instead of a hasbro item because you preferred the paint apps, then the blame is the same since the Hasbro item was not encouraged and hasbro sees none of your money.
No one should feel obliged to pay full price for something they dont want, it will only encourage the company to keep things the same.

And I totally get that we gotta fund what we want - I did so with Victorion at full MSRP! But I never saw Sky Lynx till Ross had him. I would have skipped G2 Menasor, but could NOT at that price.
And AMEN on Retool Wars! I was done seeing the same molds.

I totally vote with my wallet, but I'll wait for a sale on figures I was going skip anyway. I'll pass on the G2 sets even at that price. Now Comps or Vicky might get picked up if I spot them low enough; Vicky has never been on the radar and Comps was a hard maybe.
We could also make an argument that buying what ever Hasbro puts out re-enforces that what they are currently doing is acceptable. If their toys stop selling, maybe they will put a little more effort into it and we'll stop waiting for sales or buying the "superior" Takara products.

I'm tempted on the G2 sets, but am also a bit turned off that 1) getting a proper G2 Defensor is still quite the uncertainty and 2) Hasbro screwed up G2 Bruticus by using the G1 Decepticon sigils.
If I found a Hasbro Computron for $40, I'd bite, despite already having the far superior Unite Warriors version from Takara. I want that Scrounge! I also have some ideas for repurposing the rest of the figures as different "neo-G1" characters. They'd be new "Second Stringers" members of the Technobots, a la the likes of Alpha Bravo, Off Road, and Rook for their respective combiner teams.
As for Leo Kaiser, I'm still hoping Takara is going to give us a stupendous surprise in a few months. Unite Warriors seems to still be going strong for them.

That's similar to what I did. CW Computron is my *Betatron*, and UW is my True Computron

Yeah, I considered going that route as well, but I think Hasbro's "official" Betatron configuration, according to the box artwork, is the Optimus Maximus team with the arms swapped for the legs and visa versa. I'll come up with something else for the "Technobots B Team."

You know I love the UW line too and I want to believe in everyone's high hopes that takara will deliver but for some reason I just cant get passed how totally uncanny that would be. Like I cant even imagine it. Sure, the technobots were totally different from hasbro but everything came from an existing mold/design and even if there has been a new mold, it was still going by the design of all limbs (arms folding to the side and legs being an acordion). But here we are talking about two deluxes that can fit onto eachother and still fit with the scarmble city limb system of combiner wars. Even Devastator didnt overpate that way with each limb being made for that position. If Takara achieved it, I would buy it for sure and I would be really impressed. But I just cant conceptualise it. I mean this is the same company that is just doing straight redecos of Titans Return (bodies) when all fans were hoping they would at least fix Galvatron's head.

I never really put any stock in that, After all, Hasbro's "official" configuration for Superion includes Dragstrip The only official configurations I follow are the TT ones

I can imagine it, and it is awesome . But yes highly improbable. In the entire UW line TT came up with two new deluxe molds. Now they would be tasked with making an additional two new deluxe molds, (instead of a Voyager) that *break* the pattern and would not be based on anything remotely existing thus far. An upper torso (Leozak), and a lower mid-section (Jallguar) Not impossible, but still...not likely.

To be fair, Takara did remold all the "Headmasters" heads to resemble their show (and oddly enough Sunbow's artwork from The Rebirth in many cases).

I knew someone would point that out.
That's why I wrote "bodies" in brackets. its all good
I had not realized the Sunbow thing though, I thought it twas just headmasters being used for the inspiration.
nycPrime wrote:Do you guys still think it's likely that Takara will eventually release a UW Liokaiser (within the next 12 mos)? And if so, would it likely contain no new molds, and be a standard voyager torso + 4 deluxe limbs? And I'm guessing the torso would be Silverbolt's mold, with the limbs more or less similar to Hasbro's version?
Oh man, I really hope no one hates me for repeating myself, but you asked so nicely. I personally dont think they will release him. Takara seems to want to do everything perfectly (to the point of colour coding Bruticus' feet). They have released oddballs, but those were combiners that didnt exist before. One thing we know though is that they dont half ass things. So, just going by that logic, I would think that they would either give us what we are all dreaming of or nothing at all. They have skipped some hasbro releases for others (ie the g2 sets) and hasbro has skipped some of their sets as well to the point that both lines look super independent of eachother right now. So since that perfect Liokaiser is just so out of reach, I think they just wouldnt do him.
Instead, what I think is far more probable, is they release hasbro's Liokaiser as a totally new wacky combiner, with different colours. Like they did with megatronia. To me, it would be that or nothing, just based on all we have seen so far.

Big Rescue Force!
Ok, maybe not him, but maybe an homage to the EU Rescue Force made from 4 Liokaiser molds? Hellbat and Guyhawk would have to have original decos, but that would complete the fictional Autobot Team, no?

yeah, I could see that. or something totally wacky. I mean what makes more sense for takara to do with CW's Liokaiser if they do use those molds:
a) release him similarly to how he is released by hasbro
b) create a new combiner system at the deluxe scale for the middle torso
c) use the molds to make a wacky new combiner that will be explained in a wacky comic
Option C makes more sense from what we have seen. But boy would it piss people off if they start with a sulouette. Imagin its a liokaiser silouette and its revealed to be big rescue force

Technically, that's correct. The similarity to the Sunbow models is mainly for the Decepticon Headmasters, whose heads didn't deviate much between the original toys, "The Rebirth," and "The Headmasters" series. So, it's more coincidental than intentional on Takara's part. The Autobots are another, very messy, matter, though.
