An enemy thought defeated
A power thought to be legend
At Botcon 2012, Earth's survival rests
in the hands of just one robot...
To refresh your memory here is a list of hints BotCon threw out in early September via their twitter acount:
- They feel this set may be the best they've ever produced, definitely in the top three
- If you're 80's fan, one figure in the set will be "MUST HAVE Transformer of the year"
- Three of the characters are getting their first updates ever
- Two of the figures draw upon the "distant past"
- The set is not TFA
- The "MUST HAVE" figure is one of the characters getting their first update ever

The text and stuff is interesting too.
"An enemy thought defeated"
Only thing that comes to my mind is Unicron. But how could they do a Unicron toy as a BotCon exclusive, unless they repaint the Cybertron deluxe mold. Maybe in Energon black colors to match Scourge. Or of course they resurrect the BWNeo mold.
"A newer thought to be legend"
First thing I thought was Scourge. Who else could be considered a "legend" in Transformers lore? Possibly one of the original 13, but who could they do? We already have Alpha Trion, The Fallen, and Nexus Prime.
"Earth's survival rests in the hands of just one robot"
There you have it. There's only one robot in the box set. Scourge. Once you have him, you don't need anyone else. But seriously, notice they said "robot", not Autobot. So could Scourge be the one robot? Also they've got a half-Autobot/half-Decepticon down at the bottom. The original RiD Scourge(not the Nemesis Prime!) was half Autobot and half Decepticon. And if RiD had been a more deep show perhaps they had explored that internal conflict in the show for more than 3 seconds. So maybe this Scourge will be a more morally conflicted and interesting character. "Am I an Autobot? Or am I Decepticon?" That sort of thing.
Anyways, I am interested in this set now. Let's just hope I'll be able to attend BotCon 2012 to get. If they decide to stick BotCon in some expensive southern city in the US again like the last few years, forget it. I'm hoping for Niagara Falls, or Detroit, or Buffalo. Just somewhere close to Ontario. Some place I can possibly drive to in a day. I cannot afford to fly to frickin' California or Florida again.

Orion Pax?
We've seen him before as a G1 Kup repaint; but the clue says "first update", not first figure. And it doesn't say that there was an actual G1 figure; it just indicates that the character is from the 80s.
It's not Ultra Magnus; he's had plenty of updates (just not enough good ones).
And it's not Alpha Trion; that was already done too recently (even though it would qualify as a "first update").
And it's not RiD Scourge. (80s, folks.)
Doing an Orion Pax figure also has some relevance to the direction Transformers Prime has taken. (Not that the Botcon figure would intend to represent that version of the character.)
This could also point to another of the figures being Ariel ("Two of the figures draw upon the 'distant past'"); a Generations Blurr recolor, perhaps?
Posted by Gandalf on November 3rd, 2011 @ 2:17am CDT
And as for the 80s thing...the last couple of years have shown that not every figure has to fall under the same specific theme.
Yeah, I'm still not over RID Sky-Byte being in the 2010 G2 box set, while G2 Sideswipe was tossed aside into the custom class.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more. If Botcon is in the south in 2012, I'm there!

In fact, going by the MTMTE profile or tech specs, Iron Works runs the Long Range Communications Bay. Perhaps he picks up a signal from the 'legend' mentioned and it turns out to be Countdown who's called a legend in his various profiles. It would be nice except for the mention of not previously updated toys excludes Countdown.
If it were Micromaster themed, Windcharger repainted as Black Jack would be nice.

Without knowing how many figures are going to be in the set it's still too early to say who this is or is not. The hints say that "three of the characters are getting their first updates ever". Now if there's more than three figures in the set then it's entirely possible this could be an Ultra Magnus as nothing has said that this is one of the three.

That was gonna be one of my guesses. But Devcon is not a character from the distant past. He was a bounty hunter during the second or third season. Distant past may refer to episodes like War Dawn and Forever Is A Long Time Coming.

It's not Ultra Magnus. He's received an updated character already. And, if I'm not mistaken, there has always been five figures in the main set plus a few other exclusives like a souvenir figure.

OK then. If there's always been five figures in the sets, and the hint says that THREE characters will be getting their first update ever, then that leaves two figures, one of which MIGHT be an Ultra Magnus repaint of RTS G2 Prime. I'm just saying that it's possible as we still don't know enough. This is what I said in my first post. Do you understand that?

Megatron perhaps? Seems kinda trivial when you look at the bigger threats in the Decepticon community. Remember, the autobots have been trying to stop the decepticons for over 29 years, and haven't succeeded, (except in energon, which was bullcrap). So the threat doesn't have to be unicron...

I think the whole intention is to get people excited about the convention, wet some appetites. If what they claim is true, the toy set is something collectors want, then this is getting built up into one of the biggest conventions. they want people to not want to miss it no matter how far they have to travel, and how much it'll cost.

Anyway. I just thought of an idea who fits the description of most of all of this.
"An enemy thought defeated" - he was defeated
If you're 80's fan... - he was in the 80s cartoon
"Three of the characters are getting their first updates ever" - he technically had a G1 toy, but no real update of his own.
"The set is not TFA" - he was in G1.
"The "MUST HAVE" figure is one of the characters getting their first update ever" - again, he's never had a true update of himself.

The Faux Rage! BC Newsflash... We are doing RID Scourge for BotCon 2012...
is what a LOT of people are thinking based on the ad that is in the current issue of Transformers Timelines Issue 6.
However, it is still a BIT early to discuss the theme for 2012. That and location will be available as absolutely soon as we can announce.
All that said, whoever we are doing are characters Hasbro is NOT planning on doing. So, there is no need for any rage...
Back to toys. The character seen in the ad? He isn't even the "best"... Two others in the set rock even more!

This seems the most likely possibility to me. And "an enemy thought defeated"? That could very well be taken to refer to the gobots line in general; once a fierce competitor, now owned outright by Hasbro.
Whatever we see, I'm glad it will involve generations redecos!
