Hasbro Pulse Unboxed Blog Talks Devastator

Greetings Seibertronians! Fellow Seibertron user, EvasionModeBumblebee has informed us of a recent update to the Hasbro Pulse Unboxed blog! The update concerns an interview with one of the people responsible for the recent Studio Series Devastator combiner, toy engineer Mike B. He shares his thoughts on the process that created the behemoth that is Devastator, from initial planning to conception, to production. He also deals with the question of the time frame the toys were released in.

One of the more intriguing comments is made when asked about the size of the components and which size class they would be:

Mike B wrote:Last was the upper torso and lower torso. We actually thought of two options for this. (1) Scavenger being a Commander scale figure and Overload a Voyager or (2) Scavenger a Leader scale and Overload a Leader scale. We decided to proceed with option 2 of both Leader scales to fit in our existing scales, but more importantly for strength and stability. Having the lower torso as a Leader scale with more mass helped to improve the stability of Devastator.

This shows us that while Commander class has so far been only for WfC toys (Siege Jetfire and Earthrise Sky Lynx), we could still yet see the sizing in other lines.

Through out the blog is various pictures showing the design work that went into Devastator, but they served the best pictures and comments till last.

I really think this ^ is the reason why Jazz is #14 instead of #4.
I saw this car racing on the broadcast for the (can't remember the actual full name) vintage car Le Mans a couple of years ago, and I even made a comment to my father about it at the time since I had just bought my Diaclone Jazz. Random life details aside, in securing the rights to a race car like this you have to deal with: Porsche, the racing team, the corporation that owns the racing team, probably some legality of the driver if their name is associated with this car/number, Le Mans circuit, and/or all of the sponsors of the car when making fake sponsors to put on the toy to make sure they're off enough as to avoid all sorts of copyright issues.

:-? Who knows maybe the Martini & Rossi racing team just didn't want Hasbro to use #4 after the whole "Martinii" stickers on the G1 toy to get it made. :-?

Still think they did a masterful job with Devastator, especially given the release timeframe and how good they got the robots to look compared to the on-screen and concept art designs. It's an impressive project and one that was really successful.

SS Devastator is my figure of the year, no one else really comes close

Am I just hoping in vane that they will change that hinge on Hot Rod's roof to make it red instead of yellow before production.

So let's have a look at the list as it stands so far:

01 - Jazz
02 - (Blurr or Kup)
03 - (Blurr or Kup)
04 - Hot Rod
05 - Scourge
06 - Grimlock and Wheelie

Now this is assuming that all size classes are put together per wave and that there is no surprise figures who have not been leaked yet, like Slag and Daniel.

I'm not saying a production change won't happen, just don't get your hopes up

I stopped getting my hopes up with Hasbro years ago. :-D

That's why I'm not even bothering to hope they'll sell an effects pack for transformers.

Doesn't look like it based on the transformation and video review by PrimevsPrime or TonTon, but I could be wrong

Not to derail, but since Studio Series 86 (nice move Hasbro - gives them room to expand the line) Jazz is clearly a martini porsche, and they've allowed Cliffjumper to be a Porsche, does this give us any hope for a Masterpiece Meister/Jazz finally?

:BOOM:

While I wouldn't call him my figure of the year, I do think this guy is an amazing combiner and a well overdue upgrade to what we got in the past. sadly I am still missing overload. Sold out everywhere, and my local stores are only just now stocking wave 2 ss leaders.

Well that was disappointing, no Bayverse at all?

Well, even the Fan First Friday specifically mentioning Studio Series was kind of a bust. Just SS-86, more ER, and the Devy boxset, which we already knew about for a long time.

Yep, just disappointing. They've nearly finished the Bayverse characters it would probably take like 2 or 3 more waves, but they just wont do it!

It really seems like kind of a jerk move to mention studio series in the description and then put out nothing but yet more G1.

Say it louder for the folks in the back

I'm sorry, louder please
EvasionModeBumblebee wrote:put out nothing but yet more G1.

I could not be more disappointed in the reveals today. The fact that the entire wave 1 2021 are 86 figures is ridiculous. We've never had a wave with only a single movie in it, and then surprise! no live action stuff at all!

The only reveals that are remotely interesting were Thrust and Runabout, and those were only to complete already started teams.

I am so disappointed. Beyond disappointed.

I'm thinking it's getting about time to jump ship for a while

I've been preaching that for months now, they only really needed 1 more year to complete it! Just finish it please! Don't prolong the the line, finish it, and we can be happy and rest!

well, I wont comment on the discourse about G1 in the SS line, I will say I feel like when they said Studio series reveals, then said they had 14 figures to reveal, that I was expecting something very different. over all I am ok with it though, except one teeeeeeeny part.

Hasbro

STOP WITH THE TARGET EXCLUSIVES

or at least get them to fix their crap so non scalpers can get your stuff

If only Hasbro would stop sucking up to one brand of Transformers fans. I decided to stop collecting generations because it was costing me money I'd rather spend elsewhere, and because I grew up with the Bayverse films I decided to keep on with them. This is just a real kick in the balls from Hasbro.
