He looms appropriately. It's going to be a long two-ish weeks...

I was pretty close to ordering him this weekend. So much I picked up my MP-10 from the shelf and I noticed all the dust on him and said "yeah...this is how often I'd pick him up" and changed my mind. Looks great! I didn't realize soundwave wasn't as tall as Optimus and Megatron. I sold my soundwave off 2 years ago and remembered him being the same height as Optimus for some reason

hm his head looks a bit big to me but maybe that's just a personal taste thing. Generally the robot mode looks decent and G1 cartoon accurate as much as it can be. Just not my sorta figure being expensive and turning into that gun mode I always disliked. But looks a good improvement on the previous attempt especially on the legs.

I love that picture of the three of them talking and undoubtedly scheming. I'm also noticing that there's a new trend going on with the faction symbols, in the fact that they're opting for the slightly misdrawn Sunbow symbols, starting with optional stickers for Shockwave and now a tampo'd one on Megatron's chest. While this is pretty old news, it's got me wondering if they're gonna keep using the Sunbow symbols, or if they're going to revert back to the "traditional" faction emblems.
Personally, I like the Sunbow symbols. They're unique and give it an extra kick towards total cartoon accuracy. Besides, I feel like the misdrawn symbols work better with the new Masterpiece figures. When looking at Megatron's chest symbol compared to Soundwave's white-backed symbol, the former looks more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

Funny thing is I've always hated the cartoon symbols. They've always bugged me because of the three points on the top because I've always seen them as a error but I ended up buying some of the reprolables with the cartoon symbols and it's the only symbol I can look at now. It stands out more and I love it now.

I swear its no hyperbole, click the link ot see the video, it is stomach churning. Pretty much, this toy is made up of a ton of parts and completely comes apart to be built back up into a different form.

Heh, people used to claim that MP-5 took an hour to transform.
Re: In Hand Images of Takara Tomy MP-36 Masterpiece Megatron
(view post)
he still takes a really long time but its not about the complexity, its about how finicky he is. Like those legs being very hard to telescope in and the arms being a huge pain to detach from the shoulders. His chest is not obvious either and gets caught when you try to smash it downwards.
This guy just looks complex and tedious but not frustrating.

I wonder why they switched MP Soundwave for Titans Returns Soundwave in a couple of shots?

Even though mp-5 is disliked by many.Hes the only mp i like to get off my shelf and play with.
I have transformed mp-5 like 50+ times now.
And i see it being the same with mp-36. I just hope his paint doesnt chip.

Finally got around to watching the transformation, and BOY this figure does not mess around. I'm stuck somewhere between horror, love and laughter and I can't even say which of those is taking the lead because they all exist in extreme quantities in regards to ol' 36 here. And then the review claims the legs are the 'best part' but then struggles with them for like five minutes!
I think the thing that's really most upsetting about the transformation though is where it lands you. For a Masterpiece I can accept a fiddly and not-fun transformation since it is supposed to be a perfect representation of both modes; if you can still somehow make a fun transformation beyond that then far as I'm concerned you're a miracle worker. But the thing is... while I wouldn't have it any other way since this is the original cartoon version of the guy, Megatron turns into a gun. What am I gonna do with a gun? I can't exactly display it with anything, it'd look weird hanging off my wall and I'm pretty sure if I roleplayed with it it'd take two seconds before the police showed up at my door. So I kinda get this feeling that I'd be putting in a massive amount of effort for something that looks pretty good, but I just can't do anything with. Cars and Beasts I can display and move about together and have some sort of fun with, but a gun? You'd get more play value out of MP Soundwave's accessory.
Oh, and there wasn't any Instruments of Destruction playing during the transformation. It was a random collection of music from the 1986 movie soundtrack as well as the regular cartoon series soundtrack... along with a rather odd and out-of-place incidental piece of music which I'm pretty sure was either in an old disney cartoon, a cheesy 70s romance movie or Series 5 of Doctor Who. I mean hey, the reviewer's got good taste.
Talking of the reviewer, I think this was my favourite part of the whole video:-

Fuck dude, he sure does

This guy would really benefit from a metallic silver paint job to replace the flat gray. I feel that without the silver, Megs would look unfinished, almost like a test shot. And I'd really love to see a variant of Shockwave with a darker purple like Cloud 9 Quakeblast (with a proper fix on the light-piping to make it less green).

Yeah, liberal jump-cuts were used which means the transformation time is even longer, maybe it's because the figure is new and the pins were stiff?

Well, at least the qc is high with this figure, as those parts looked mighty tight to move, hope that doesn't stress the smaller pieces
