Fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade has a long account fo Pete's Robot Convetion where he saw many customs representing Club figures which might have happened. We already saw many previous proposals in this post but here are several more, including what would have been the boxset for this year were there a Botcon. We picked out snippets, especially what wasnt shown before and included that here for you to see. Below you will find Sabreblade's description of what he saw followed by photos of the display and renders. This was originally posted on Unicron.com.

Sabrblade wrote:The crown jewel of the dealer room, however, was unanimously the room's corner display, watched over by Shawn D. Tessmann (longtime host of the BotCon customization classes), at which were many rare and never-before-seen-in-person pieces of Transformers history, such as several unreleased Generation 2 toys, production materials from G1/G2/Beast Wars/Beast Machines, non-final factory samples of past BotCon/TCC exclusives compared with their final versions, and a particular art piece dated back to 1996 that absolutely no one, not even the convention runners, could figure out what it was supposed to be: It was concept art for some kind of feminine-looking blue and yellow robot with a jet-like altmode, whose crystalline design looked like something out of Transtech, but the 1996 date nixes that theory.

The unreleased Generation 2 toys on display were loose samples of the five Protectobots, loose samples of the five Stunticons, both a loose sample and a MOSC sample of Combat Hero Megatron (a gray redeco of the purple Hero Megatron), MOSC samples of the Laser Cycles Soundwave and Jazz, and loose samples of the six unreleased G2 Go-Bots (plus all the redecos of the four who did later see release in the 2001 Robots in Disguise toyline). Also on display were cardbacks for the G2 Laser Rods, two different cardbacks of Action Master Treadshot, a cardback for Action Master Jazz, an unpainted prototype of G1 Sixshot, a MOSC Beast Wars Torca, a non-transforming hardcopy of Torca, a boxed Beast Wars Neo Elphaorpha, early packaging designs for the Beast Machines toyline, and even the original Beast Wars catalog versions of orange Tarantulas, blue-green Waspinator, and alternately-colored Grizzly-1/Barbearian figures (along with a MISB Polar Claw). In addition to these were also concept art for Beast Machines Rattrap, Night Viper, and Mirage, an original cardback sample for orange Beast Wars Tigatron, a large rendition of Beast Wars Torca's card art, concept designs for Transtech Starscream, two preproduction cardback samples (one Maximal style and one Predacon style) for Beast Wars Jetstorm that named him "Dragonfire", and undeveloped G1 Micromaster concept art.

And now we come to the BIGGEST deal of the display case: The unproduced BotCon 2017 boxed set figures, attendee figure, souvenirs, and custom class figure, as well as three other concepts that served as backup alternative options for the proposed exclusives, and finally the remaining unproduced Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover "Only Human" figures. All of these were customized by Shawn D. Tessmann himself.

The BotCon 2017 boxed set, titled "Action on Hydrus Four", was to have been an Action Master-themed set of Titans Return molds all done up as new Headmaster-gimmicked Action Master characters:
1 - Actionmaster Optimus Prime (redeco of Voyager class Optimus Prime's body) with Optimus Prime (redeco of Titan Master Infinitus), Rad (redeco of Titan Master Diac), and Lionizer (redeco of Sawback's Titan Master Vehicle lion)
2 - Actionmaster Skyfall (redeco of Deluxe Highbrow's body) with Skyfall (redeco of Titan Master Apeface)
3 - Actionmaster Sprocket (redeco of Deluxe Triggerhappy's body) with Sprocket (redeco of the Japanese Transformers: Legends Weirdwolf's Headmaster) and Attack Cruiser (redeco of Brawn's Titan Master Vehicle jeep)
4 - Actionmaster Megatron (redeco of Leader Six Shot's body) with Megatron (redeco of Titan Master Nucleon) and Devastator (redeco of Titan Master Repugnus)
5 - Actionmaster Gutcruncher (redeco of Voyager Megatron's body) with Gutcruncher (retool of Titan Master Doomshot/Hazard with a new face) and Scout Tank (redeco of Terri-Bull's Titan Master Vehicle tank)

The attendee figure for BotCon 2017 was to have been Dion (redeco of Deluxe Sergeant Kup's body) with Magnum (redeco of Titan Master Hyperfire).

The souvenirs would have continued the use of Titans Return molds, but as legacy characters from several past series, rather than just Action Masters:
1 - Doubledealer (redeco of Deluxe Hardhead's body) with Knok (redeco of Titan Master Nightbeat) and Skar (a significant retool of Titan Master Sawback with new bat wings, new bat feet, and a brand new face)
2 - BotCon Heritage Onyx Primal (redeco of Deluxe Mindwipe's body) with Nightwatch (redeco of Titan Master Infinitus) and swords from TF: Prime Deluxe Wheeljack/Dead End.
3 - Unicron Trilogy Anniversary Armada Hot Shot (redeco of Deluxe Chromedome's body) with Alexis Thi Dang (retool of Titan Master Stylor with a new face, the one on display was just Universe Hot Shot's face glued onto the Titan Master) and Jolt (redeco of Generations Legends class Targetmaster Blazemaster)
4 - Unicron Trilogy Anniversary Energon Megatron (redeco of Leader Sky Shadow's body) with Leader-1 (redeco of Titan Master Ptero but with Ominus's face) and sword from Construct-Bots Megatron
5 - Troop Builder souvenir set: Cassettron Rosanna (redeco of Legends class Rewind), Cassettron Decepticon Enemy (redeco of Legends class Rumble) and Cassettron Flipsides (redeco of Legends class Rewind)

One more souvenir set would have been a successor to the Kreon packs, a pack of six Titan Masters done up as Pretenders.

1 - Pretender Starscream (redeco of Titan Master Crashbash)
2 - Pretender Jazz (redeco of Titan Master Xort)
3 - Pretender Bumblebee (redeco of Titan Master Firedrive)
4 - Pretender Crossblades (redeco of titan Master Diac)
5 - Pretender Metalhawk (redeco of Titan Master Revolver)
6 - Pretender Vroom (redeco of Titan Master Grax)

The 2017 customization class figure was to have been Actionmaster Rumbler (redeco of Deluxe Triggerhappy's body) with Rumbler (redeco of the Japanese Transformers: Legends Weirdwolf's Headmaster, just like Sprocket) and the B² Attack Team (two redecos of the Arms Micron B.H., the wrecking ball one that came with Japanese Prime Bulkhead).

The three Other Concepts likewise made use of Titans Returns molds as legacy characters:
1 - Armada Jetfire (redeco of Voyager Sentinel Prime/Astrotrain's body) with Comettor (redeco of Titan Master Apeface)
2 - Devcon (redeco of Deluxe Brainstorm's body) with Slizardo (redeco of Titan Master Hyperfire)
3 - Turbomaster (redeco of Deluxe Highbrow's body) with Take Off (redeco of Titan Master Blowpipe)

Finally, the remaining Transformers/G.I. Joe "Only Human" figures would have been:
1 - Only Human Autobot Springer with Newtronium Munitions Case that converts into artillery platform
2 - Only Human Ultra Magnus with Missile Stack & Jack Armor (LOL!)
3 - Only Human Victor Drath

The Pretender homage paintschemes on the Titan Masters looks nice but maybe it's more to do with the fact Titan Masters are often so damn plain it's just nice to see them coloured like proper figures. The Only Human figures look good too. Not much else appealing to me in that lot. Many crazy weird colourschemes. That black repaint of Mindwipe looks much better to me than the original Mindwipe release though.

Why the hell didn't we ever get a beast Titan Master?? A head that turns into another robot is normal and meh, but headmasters that turn into a bird for example like with that Doubledealer, that's awesome. That's a selling point. Why didn't we get an actual beast Lyon Titan Master if they're cable of making beast modes?

Brilliant homages that would fill a lot of holes in peoples modern G1 collections. Sad that the sets never came to fruition.

Okay. Those Megatron concepts are really awesome and I wish now they had a wider release actually at stores because seriously. Action Master Megatron (especially) and even the Energon Megatron would be pretty darn neat to have. I'd buy 'em.

Wow those customs are beautiful. Let me get this straight: these are just for show, not for sale, unless Tessman decides to sell them, right?

Hm I will say that deco on the Voyager Optimus Prime does look a lot better than the released original. Particuarly the torso having red either side of the grill with the G1 white stripes breaking up the top and lower half and making that obvious grey hinge at the top of the chest into red (on the concept at least, they left it grey on the real figure in the cabinet it seems). Am looking at my figure and being tempted to repaint it.

I really don't like a lot of the others. The Megatron's in particular look kinda bad to me. Including whatever character that Voyager Megatron body got turned into... damn the colours are bad.

Oh and Toyhax are doing a conversion set for the figure too with stickers and this preview here of added plastic parts.

The five boxed set ones were raffled off at the convention. Allspark.com user Repugnus won them.

Full details of the con and much much more goodies can be found in my complete report.

It's things like this that the Club excelled in. Yeah, they aren't actual Actionmasters. But using the Titan Bodies to homage the Action Master Vehicles and the Heads as the ActionMasters is brilliant. I would've bought these over the Shell things Hasbro is selling, because I care more about the character than the unarticulated hunk of plastic it goes in.

In fact, my biggest gripe about the Headmastes is the feeling of partsformi g people's heads. But I love the concept in this avenue. And in a way, this embraces the play aspect of the Titanmaster bases in a way Hasbro doesn't, and it's THEIR play aspect.

I didn't think I needed a Bumblebee pretender titan master until now. They even painted his arms to give him horns in head mode!

Are there any pictures of alt-modes? I'd especially like to see Gutcruncher's jet mode, as the blue pieces he has indicate it'd match his Stratatronic Jet :)

There's a digital render in the news post showing his altmodes.

Oh that one? Eeesh. The original Action Master figure on it's own ain't too bad but yeah the colour scheme with the jet and everything is just too much for my eyes. Moreso on the Titans version.

It was 1990. Brightly-colored Action Master vehicles were the main thing back then. G2 was just around the corner, even.

I like Turbomaster - very er "Pink" but cool.

It's a shame Hasbro never made Sparkcrusher as a Deluxe from the Warpath Deluxe it seemed very well suited to the idea.

----

The thing that is so nice about this stuff is that it's scratching my updated Actionmaster itch and it's also adding to the Play functionality of existing and future toys too.

Because they would have provided the very thing missing from the Prime Wars segment which is the parts and elements you can use to play more with what you have - the only thing they are missing really is some ramps.

I must pester someone caster producer into making base mode ramps sometime if they don't already - I thought I saw someone had made adaptors for the Micromaster ramps already though - which is also a good idea.

---

A word or two about Megatron too - the cool thing about the 6 changer is that he's a kinda like a "History of Megatrons" in one toys as he has a jet mode an armoured vehicle mode and "Submarine" *wink* mode and even a car mode of sorts & so on.

Also the Energon Megs works pretty well too though it does beg the question can you get the tank to ride on top of the jet - or does it have to be the jet on top of the tank instead ?

This sort of confusion is why I kinda wish the organization of my original report had been left intact. I had all the info and image laid out accordingly to show who is who and what is what.

Man I just really want that Hot Shot. I recently started watching Armada. I'm really sad that the Unicron Trilogy doesn't get any recognition anymore. Like Hasbro just don't pay much, if any, attention to it anymore. They could've done Hot Shot instead of Breakaway in the main line and I'd be on that. They need to redo some Armada characters like they did with Armada Starscream.

In a toy franchise? pffffft. Like, never.

More honest question: What the fuck is a "True Transformers fan"?

Honestly Rated X, I didn't think you'd stoop to such lameness to pull out the "true fan" card.
And did this some how end up in the wrong thread?

In a way, I'm sort of glad it didn't work out. There's some financial friction at home right now, and a lot of these look super awesome. And that's coming from someone that hates Action Masters.

Love the Armada stuff. I would prefer to have Armada characters as Combiner torsos, though, and then have Deluxe versions of Mini-con teams as their limb partners. (In my headcanon, it is Starscream in to Skyboom, Hot Shot in to Star Saber, and Jetfire into Requiem Blaster)

Dude Botcon is gone and it's not coming back even if Hascon is fails I don't mean to shoot down dreams or anything but it was shut down basically.

What does true Transformers fan even mean even in this context? (I'm curious that's all)

Also personal opinion incoming but I hated the botcon exclusives due to how expensive they were and there is too small a chance to get them after the event with Hascon exclusives would probably be cheaper and more of them.

And plus what makes you think we won't get anything with Hascon?

Botcon did disappear for a hot second! Also, unfortunately, hascon is more than just TF fans. They're real trying to sell it as a family event, for all the different toylines.

I think artist Andrew Griffith got the concept TM Pretender Bumblebee. One of those IDW artists I follow on Twitter did. He was showing it off with his BB collection. Or maybe Shawn made him another one. Regardless, it is amazing.

I think artist Andrew Griffith got the concept TM Pretender Bumblebee. One of those IDW artists I follow on Twitter did. He was showing it off with his BB collection. Or maybe Shawn made him another one. Regardless, it is amazing.

Well yeah Hascon is for Hasbro in general but it still has a Transformers section and it is confirmed if I remember correctly that we will be getting "something" in regards to exclusives... I hope it's not that leaked Tr Arcee and Magnus.

I actually really want that Headmaster Bumblebee I have never painted a Transformer figure before but I have the legends Hot Rod on Preorder so I could put the Rodimus head from the box set on him so I might try painting my normal TR Hot Rod head that I have right now into Bumblebee and give the Tr version the Legends head.

OR I could pay a customizer to do so for me but I don't know how to do that.

Either way, I'm thinking maybe we should get back on topic.

For instance, now that I have the TR Sentinel Prime mold; that Armada Jetfire looks even better to me. So sad I won't be able to get it, Jetfire was one of my favourite characters in Cybertron :(

I've never been a huge fan of the club stuff, but the one thing they got right in my opinion was giving the action masters some real bodies. The Krok made from the thrilling 30 Megatron was excellent, and way better than the redeco of Skullcruncher. The Skyfall in these pics looks great, even though I don't particularly care for the Highbrow mold. The colors are spot on. Since I know nothing of what the future holds for HasCon, I'll wait to see what they do, but I hope they take a few notes from these items. Really impressive.

One figure I always wanted was an accurate Mainframe. As in he transformed into one of those reel to reel computers.

My guess is if Hascon fails, we will see a resurgence of official conventions for specific franchises. It could be Funpub or someone else. This is just something I truly believe.

Lets look realistically at Hascon. If we go by the number of planned pannels and events, its 30% Transformers, 30% My Little Pony, and 40% filler from less popular franchises. Nobodys gonna pay $600 plus airfare/gas money and a hotel to see some of what they like, and a whole lot of what they dont care about. (Regardless of their favorite Hasbro franchise) Is theyre really a such thing as a Hasbro fan? (Somebody who loves every franchise based solely on the fact Hasbro made it) And even if theyre was, do you really believe they are young children say under age 12? (Remember this is being marketed as a family event) From my experience at 4 Botcons, I can say a majority of the convention loving fandom are adults between the ages of 20 and 50. (including G.I. Joe fans and Bronies who showed up at Botcon) I saw plenty of tattoos, body piercings, and revealing clothes on not so attractive bodies. There was a few father-son duos, but they were in the minority. They were mostly local people who came on saturdays and sundays when the dealer room was open to the general public. But the pannels were all filled with young adults and old school fans. So ill be real with you. Convention events are a little to deep for your average 5-8 year olds kids. Kids just like toys, not events, pannels, and fan dinners. Not to mention the cost. Kids are f**kin expensive so not many parents are going to get on board with Hascon over a trip to Disneyworld or Universal Studios where a 3 day pass is half the price of Hascon. So put all this together and Hascon will fail. And when it does, Hasbro sooner or later will realize collectors are the primary buyers of Transformers, not kids. Kids want smart phones, I-pads, and video games. When the smoke clears, Botcon, Joecon, Bronycon, etc. will all return so Hasbro can continue to milk their cash cow long after toy sales drop. Go to a toys r us and look for G.I. Joes. You wont find them. Thats because they have reached a point where the classic Joes are only marketable in a collector club setting. Settings like that spawn conventions when the demand increases. Right now Transformers is riding off the Michael Bay bandwagon which has led to a boost in CHUG sales as 40 year olds re-live their past. But after Transformers # 6, the franchise will become similar to the likes of G.I. Joe and become perfect convention/collector club material. Lets see what happens...

The general consensus for the meaning of "boycott" is when you stop doing business with a certain entity as a form of protest. Both of my examples showed exactly that. And both examples were extremely successful. One lead to a state law repeal and the other lead to an extreme loss of revenue from negative media reports.

As a means to provide some course correction for this topic, and to give people even more goodies to look over, I'm just gonna re-post my original complete report on both the con and the post-con reveals that I originally wrote for Unicron.com, which contains not only even more neat stuff to but also organizes all the given info with the appropriate accompanying imagery and media:

It's divided into two lengthy parts.

Part 1 - http://forum.unicron.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6772

Well, folks, this is pretty late-coming, but well worth the wait.

On the last full weekend of the previous month, June 23-24, the first ever Pete's Robot Convention took place in Covington, Kentucky (near Cincinnati, Ohio), which served as a smaller-scaled, unofficial, spiritual successor to the long-running, formerly annual, official Transformers convention, BotCon. Hosted by Pete Sinclair and Jesse Wittenrich, this convention honored the many traditions of past BotCons, recapturing the original feel of the 1994-1996 BotCons with the commodities of the more recent BotCons hosted by Fun Publications.

Yours truly was in attendance of the event's festivities, and has now brought to you an onsite report of all that there was to behold at Pete's Robo Con. For those of you reading this from Facebook, it is strongly encouraged that you click to view this report more properly in the Unicron.com forum thread in which this report is posted.

All images and media come from the Pete's Robo Con Facebook, the DaimChoc Reports Facebook, The Allspark, YouTuber Primal Sabbath, YouTuber Collecticon, the Twitter of Jesse Wittenrich, the Twitter of DaltaniansTF, and the DeviantArt of EchoWing. Friday evening consisted of three main events, reserved for preregistered attendees only.

At 4:00pm was registration package pick-up, at which pre-registrants received their namebadge lanyards and convention T-shirts.

Right after that was a meet-and-greet, buffet style dinner at a local brewery, Darkness Brewing. Fans hung out, relaxed, and talked Transformers all through the meal.

Image
Image

The main event for the evening began at 7:00pm. A private screening of Transformers: The Last Knight was held at the local AMC for just us preregistered attendees, where we had a moderately-sized theater room all to ourselves. Opinions were very mixed on the movie itself and its experience, though most seemed to get a kick out of Stanley Tucci's performance of the wizard Merlin in the King Arthur battle scene.

Image
Image

Saturday was the main day of the convention, with general admission open to all. There were probably about 200-300 attendees in total, with the number of registered attendees ranking in the mid-to-high 80s. The dealer room was much smaller than those of the past seven BotCons, but was nonetheless packed with Transformers (and other toys/merchandise) of all kinds. Many of the vendors had been recognizable BotCon regulars, such as AJ's Toy Chest, I Am Ratchet Toys, Mega Toy Fan, TF Marketplace, TF Outpost, Trans-Hunter Toys, Alpha Prime Toys, and more.

Image
Image
Image

Artists Alex Milne and Robby Musso were two of the convention's main guests. Each of them had their own booth in the dealer room.

Image
Image

The crown jewel of the dealer room, however, was unanimously the room's corner display, watched over by Shawn D.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The non-final factory samples for past BotCon/Collectors Club exclusives seen in the display were two hardcopies of BotCon 2016 Megatron's head, a hardcopy of Collectors Club Lio Convoy/Nova Prime's head, and miscolored samples of BotCon 2016 Tarantulas, BotCon 2015 Dia (the orange Targetmaster that came with Sgt. Hound), BotCon 2016 Flash Sentry, Collectors Club "Only Human" Arcee, Subscription Service Chromedome, Collectors Club Armada Skywarp, and BotCon 2014 Scorponok, all of which were displayed next to their respective finalized versions.

A nameplate in the display case read as follows:
Attendee Figure
Dion
Previous BotCon convention goers know attendees who purchased the boxed set would also get an "Attendee Figure" as a free bonus. For 2017, the concept in the planning stages was Dion, Orion Pax's friend from the G1 episode "War Dawn".

A nameplate in the display case read as follows:
Titanmaster 6-pack
Pretender Pack
BotCons 2013-2015 gave fans exclusive multi-packs of Kreon action figures. Unfortunately the Kre-O brand as a whole went dormant in 2016 and the offering had to be removed from the BotCon line-up. As a replacement, however, 2017 would have looked to provide a 6-pack of Titanmasters in premium deco.

*Concepts for display and archive purposes only. Not intended for sale. Trademarks and character names property of respective owners.

Image
Image

As an aside, the name "B² Attack Team" is an in-joke to a very old false BotCon exclusive proposal that Karl Hartman mentioned on the old BotConBeyond.com message board way back around 2000-2001. The fake proposal was for a pair of blue redecos of Beast Wars Retrax called the "Blue Balls Attack Team". So to see these realized here is pretty remarkable.

Image
Image

Finally, the remaining Transformers/G.I. Joe "Only Human" figures would have been:
1 - Only Human Autobot Springer with Newtronium Munitions Case that converts into artillery platform
2 - Only Human Ultra Magnus with Missile Stack & Jack Armor (LOL!)
3 - Only Human Victor Drath

A nameplate in the display case read as follows:
Transformers/GI Joe Crossovers
Only Human Part 2
After Old Snake, Rodimus Prime, and Arcee, the GI Joe body style figures as Transformers human/not-quite human characters might have continued. The quartet of Autobots were planned, as well as a Victor Drath to act as a partner in crime for Old Snake.

*Concepts for display and archive purposes only. Not intended for sale. Trademarks and character names property of respective owners.

Now, while all of these mock-ups were one-of-a-kind pieces, there was a single piece of merchandise that was mass produced and given away at the con as an exclusive to registered attendees with blue namebadges: A lithograph of the "Action on Hydrus Four" art, by Robby Musso and Josh Perez (the latter of whom sadly could not attend the convention due to last-minute personal reasons).

Image

Another guest of the convention who did attend was professional cosplayer Joe Colton, dressed as G1 Transformers cartoon character Marissa Faireborn of the Earth Defense Command. She hosted her own panel about the ins and outs of cosplaying, as well as her personal experiences as a professional cosplayer. And of course, there were cosplaying fans in attendance as well.

One of the defining aspects of this convention that set it apart from the BotCons of more recent years was an increased focus on family-oriented activities. This was done to draw in families in addition to just hardcore collectors.

At 9:00am was a Recycled Robots building class in which kids could create their own custom robot toys from an eclectic variety of parts available to choose from. The kids would pick the parts and the Recycled Robots team would glue them together, creating such imaginative robots as the one seen held by this young fellow below:

Image

Throughout the day, there was free face painting and caricature painting for kids ages 12 and under. Congoers above that age could have their face painted too, but at a (reasonable) price. Children had their faces drawn as Transformers and other robots (like Voltron), while woman were made to look like fairies and men as zombies. The talented artists behind these works were those of the Cincinnati-based Fabulous Faces by Jen LLC Professional Face Painting.

At 1:00pm was a Kids ROBOT Bingo that was exclusively for kids ages 3 to 12, at which they were given opportunities to win cool prizes.

Image

For the more hardcore Transformers collectors, meanwhile, there were four panels throughout the day.

At 11:00am, Pete Sinclair hosted the "Transformers Rarities" panel, in which he discussed many of the rare pieces of Transformers history that were on display in the dealer room, as well as other obscure Transformers items. Of particular note, Pete concluded the panel with the opening of a completely painted, MOSC, Generation 2 Combat Hero Megatron, removing it completely from its original sealed packaging. It was later placed in the display case with the other valuables.

Here is a complete video recording of the panel (a highly recommended viewing):

Later at 2:00pm, the "Meet the Artists" panel was held, hosted by Alex Milne and Robby Musso, who provided insight into their history working on the Transformers comics and packaging art, as well as their personal thoughts on the brand and its aspects, and the artist profession in general. The forthcoming Power of the Primes line even got a brief mentioning in this Q&A panel.

Here is a complete video recording of the panel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJBObyIVqwc

The MAIN Transformers event for the day was unquestionably the "The Making of a Club & Convention Exclusive" panel, hosted by Pete Sinclair, Jesse Wittenrich, and Shawn D. Tessmann. This panel focused primarily on divulging the creative processes that went into the crafting and development of the BotCon 2011 exclusives, and also provided a look at what may have come about for the Collectors Club in 2017 had it been allowed to continue for one more year, including a look at the SIXTH iteration of the Transformers Figure Subscription Service!

For this panel, there is sadly no video available. BUT, due to a technical difficultly at the panel, the PDF file containing the contents of the panel was uploaded to the Pete's Robo Con Facebook for all eyes to behold.

Image

First up was the making of the BotCon 2011 exclusives. Originally, there were six different concepts that eventually led to the finalized set of exclusives that we ended up getting for that year.
Image

Concept #1: Classics vs. Shattered Glass. We ended up getting this theme the next year in 2012, but it was originally planned for 2011, and was even originally advertised as such in the earliest ads for BotCon 2011.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - SG Galvatron from Cybertron Evac (which did end up happening after all)
2 - SG Ultra Magnus from Cybertron Mudflap (would have had a new headsculpt)
3 - SG Swindle from Universe Hound
4 - SG Soundwave from Unverse Ironhide (which did come about in 2012)
5 - Classics Metalhawk from Universe Cyclonus (2012 instead gave us Classics Metalhawk from Generations Thunderwing)
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was:
1 - SG Bugly from Beast Wars Jetstorm
2 - SG Omega Doom from Cybertron Menasor (would have had a new headsculpt)
Image

A second souvenir 2-pack proposal was:
1 - SG Trailbreaker from Movie Salvage
2 - SG Metalhawk from Universe Cyclonus (in Black Shadow's colors)
Image

A third souvenir 2-pack proposal was:
1 - SG Rollbar from Movie Stockade
2 - Classics Swindle from Universe Hound
Image

The proposed attendee figure was SG Ratchet from Energon Roadblock
Image

Concept #2: Shattered Glass Beast Wars. This is not to be confused with the very different "Beast Wars Shattered Glass" six-part club magazine comic story. This was to have been a legit "Heroic Predacons vs. Evil Maximals" set, albeit set during the present day era of the SG universe rather than in its prehistoric past. Though, some proposals from this set would eventually see the light of day later on.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - SG Ravage from Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Cheetor
2 - SG Beast Megatron from Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Tigerhawk
3 - SG Dinobot from Universe Dinobot (in BW Terrorsaur colors)
4 - SG Waspinator from Beast Wars Transmetal Waspinator (we would eventually get a different SG Waspinator, from Generations Waspinator in Fox Kids Transmetal Waspinator colors, repurposed from the BotCon 2015 yellow-colored Waruder)
5 - SG Ramulus from Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Ramulus
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was:
1 - SG Quickstrike from Beast Wars Neo Cohrada (in normal Quickstrike's colors, but based on Silverbolt's character)
2 - SG Ultra Mammoth from Beast Wars Neo Big Convoy (we eventually got a non-SG Ultra Mammoth as a good guy in 2013)
Image

A second souvenir 2-pack proposal was:
1 - SG Galvatron from Cybertron Evac (which, again, did happen)
2 - SG Soundwave from Universe Ironhide (which, again, did happen at BotCon 2012)
Image

A troop-builder set proposal was to have been SG Thundercracker, SG Skywarp, and SG Rain Storm all from Classics Starscream. Thundercracker was to have G1 Thundercracker's Action Master deco, which did end up happening.
Image

The proposed attendee figure was, again, SG Ratchet from Energon Roadblock
Image

Concept #3: Toxic Mayhem (take one). This was the first proposal for an Animated set, which Toxitron was always going to be a part of, and would have featured the Wreckers. The idea behind this was to make use of the three Japanese-only Animated molds, but that idea didn't pan out since, for some reason, Hasbro wouldn't let Fun Pub use the Japanese molds.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - Animated Toxitron from the Japanese Wingblade Optimus Prime
2 - Animated Bugbite from the Japanese Jet Pack Bumblebee (Hydrodrive Bumblebee)
3 - Animated Sideswipe from Rodimus Minor (in G2 Drench colors; the Sideswipe we ended up getting had G2 Sideswipe colors and a new head)
4 - Animated Jackpot from Autobot Jazz (which we did end up getting in 2013)
5 - Animated Kup from Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime (would have had new headsculpt)
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was "Wreck and Rule!":
1 - Animated Shokaract from the Japanese Blackout
2 - Animated Springer from Swindle (inspired by the BotCon 2007 Classics Springer, would have had a new headsculpt)
Image

A second souvenir 2-pack proposal was "Fan Demand":
1 - Stunticon Breakdown: a G1-colored redeco of BotCon 2010 G2 Breakdown (which we did get in 2013)
2 - Classics Thundercracker: an Action Master-colored redeco of Classics Starscream (which, again, we got instead as SG Thundercracker)
Image

A troop-builder set proposal was to have been "The Femme Fatales": Flamewar, Antagony, and Nightracer all redecoed from Animated Arcee.
Image

The proposed attendee figure this time was Animated Tigatron from Rodimus Minor (based on BotCon 2006 Tigatron's deco)
Image

Concept #4: Toxic Mayhem (take two). The second attempt at an Animated set, which again tried to use the Japanese molds, but that was a no go. Toxitron was also a part of this, and instead of the Wreckers, a different Autobot unit called "Delta Force" would have been featured.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - Animated Sideswipe from Rodimus Minor (in G2 colors, which we did end up getting with a new head)
2 - Animated Jackpot from Autobot Jazz (which, again, we did end up getting in 2013)
3 - Animated Jhiaxus from Cybertron Mode Megatron
4 - Animated Ironfist from Ironhide (which we did end up getting)
5 - Animated Wildfly from the Japanese Blackout
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was "Toxic Flames":
1 - Animated Toxitron from the Japanese Wingblade Optimus Prime
2 - Animated Flamewar from Arcee
Image

Another souvenir 2-pack proposal was, again, "Fan Demand":
1 - Stunticon Breakdown: a G1-colored redeco of BotCon 2010 G2 Breakdown (which, again, we did get in 2013)
2 - Classics Thundercracker: an Action Master-colored redeco of Classics Starscream (which, again, we got instead as SG Thundercracker)
Image
Image

The proposed attendee figure this time was Animated G2 Swindle

Concept #5: Classics Stunticons. This time, the Animated theme was stepped away from to suggest Classics versions of the G1 Stunticons (albeit, non-combining). This theme would have also still dabbled in some crossover with the Shattered Glass universe.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - Classics Motormaster from Cybertron Optimus Prime (Leader class)
2 - Classics Dead End from Universe Sunstreaker (in Alternators Dead End colors)
3 - Classics Drag Strip from Universe Mirage (would have had a different deco from the Universe "Special Edition" Drag Strip)
4 - Classics Wildrider from Generations Drift
5 - Classics Breakdown from BotCon 2010 G2 Breakdown (which, again, we got in 2013)
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was the same as the SGBW concept's second 2-pack proposal:
1 - SG Galvatron from Cybertron Evac (which, again, did happen)
2 - SG Soundwave from Universe Ironhide (which, again, did happen at BotCon 2012)
Image

A second souvenir 2-pack proposal dipped back into Animated as "Animated Add On":
1 - Animated Toxitron from the Japanese Wingblade Optimus Prime
2 - Animated Ricochet from Autobot Jazz
Image

A troop-builder set proposal was the same as the SGBW troop-builders: SG Thundercracker (in G2 Action Master colors, which we did get), SG Skywarp, and SG Rain Storm all from Classics Starscream.
Image

The proposed attendee figure was, once more, SG Ratchet from Energon Roadblock
Image

Image

Concept #6: Animated Stunticons. This was the last proposal to come right before the final, based on the decision to combine the Animated theme with the Stunticon theme. A few of the figures in this concept would be swapped around in the final version.
Image

The set for this proposal would have contained:
1 - Animated Motormaster from the Japanese Wingblade Optimus Prime
2 - Animated Dead End from Autobot Jazz (which we got)
3 - Animated Drag Strip from Arcee (which we got)
4 - Animated Breakdown from Lockdown (this was swapped with Wildrider)
5 - Animated Wildrider from Rodimus Minor (this was swapped with Breakdown)
Image

One souvenir 2-pack proposal was "Autobot Defense":
1 - Animated Crossblades from the Japanese Blackout
2 - Animated Sideswipe from Rodimus Minor (in G2 colors, which we got with a new headsculpt)
Image

A second souvenir 2-pack proposal was the SG one we ended up getting:
1 - SG Galvatron from Cybertron Evac
2 - SG Thundercracker in Action Master colors from Classics Starscream
Image

The troop-builder set was the one we ended up getting: Animated Autotroopers from Ironhide
Image

The proposed attendee figure was the one we ended up getting: Animated Ironfist from Ironhide

And now we come to what would have been the 2017 Transformers Collectors Club exclusives.

First up are the 2017 membership incentive figure and the Club Store exclusive figure:
Image

Image

And here is the Transformers Figure Subscription Service 6.0:
Image

For this figure, Lori's deco isn't based on anything specific, but is instead the result of the plastic colors that the Titan Master would have had being gangmolded with Override:
Image

This figure below was to have had the same retooled Titan Master Sawback mold that was to have been used for BotCon 2017 Doubledealer's Titan Master Skar:
Image

This figure below was to have represented the SG Rodimus of the Fun Pub SG fiction after his having been upgraded by SG Primus, which would have happened in the final club magazine SG comic storyline "Another Light", but did not make it into that story. This SG Rodimus Prime was also stated by Pete Sinclair to have been one of two figures whose never getting made were his biggest regrets.
Image

This figure was to have been a Beast Wars: Uprising toy, whose design did make it into the final Uprising prose story "The Inexorable March".
Image

This too was to have also been a Beast Wars: Uprising toy, and whose design did make it into the final Uprising prose story.
Image

This is the third one meant for Beast Wars: Uprising, and who did make it into the final story, and who is also the second of two figures that Pete regrets the most having never gotten made. This was even originally going to be made for BotCon 2016 before it was decided to make that set a Combiner Wars Beast Wars set.
Image

And finally, to go with Battletrap:

As for anything else covered by the panel, there was some discussion regarding the Transformers Figure Subscription Service 5.0, which was the final one.

The little Scorponok figure made from the Legends class Scamper figure that came with Generations Titan class Metroplex was included in the TFSS 5.0 to enable fans to complete the full roster of the original Beast Wars cast in pre-Earth Cybertronian forms. The Scamper mold was chosen because that figure is counted not as its own figure but as an accessory. The TFSS 5.0 was first put together all the way back in March of 2015, but when the news of the 5.0 being the final subscription service was made known, the molds for the seven 5.0 figures were already set in stone. So, because the Scamper mold isn't counted as its own figure, it was allowed to be included with one of the main seven figures as an accessory.

Additionally, the origins of the SG Starscream figure from the TFSS 5.0 were divulged, explaining how that figure came about and why that character was chosen to be the final Fun Pub Transformers toy.

Basically, the original plan for the 7th figure of the TFSS 5.0 was for it to be Combiner Wars G1 Sunstorm from the Unite Warriors Starscream figure. At the time that that was planned, it was not yet known that it was going to be the absolute final Fun Pub Transformers figure. When that news came to light, it came as a surprise to Fun Pub since they had by then grown to have a very close and healthy relationship with Hasbro, so the bomb was dropped right around when things were really good between them. Once it was clear that the 5.0 would be the last subscription service, Pete and friends tried to get Hasbro to let them change the Starscream mold out for something else so that Fun Pub could create a much better figure for the conclusion of their tenure with the Transformers license: a purely Fun Pub-ish capstone figure that would better serve to represent and commemorate the Fun Pub era of Transformers. Specifically, Pete wanted Hasbro to let them switch out the Starscream mold with the Generations Springer mold to create one of Pete's two aforementioned biggest unproduced figure regrets: Shattered Glass Rodimus Prime.

Unfortunately, Hasbro said no to that mold-swapping request because they said that the request came too late for any molds to be switched out. The Starscream mold was set in stone at that point. So, Fun Pub tried to see if they could move around some of the set molds and change one of the other ones into being the special final Fun Pub figure. Once such attempt was to move Counterpunch around and have Optimus be the special last figure. Not simply as he ended up being, but to keep the Pretender shell as is and instead recolor the inner Optimus figure into Shattered Glass Optimus. But that wasn't doable so late in the game either.

Therefore, they were stuck with having the Starscream mold at the end as the final Fun Pub figure, so they had no choice but to try and do something uniquely Fun Pub-ish with that specific figure. After much brainstorming, it was decided to turn it into a new SG Starscream, one who exists not in the main Marvel G1 comic-based SG universe that we've had since 2008, but in a new Sunbow G1 cartoon-based SG universe, which was first glimpsed at in the two-page bonus Transformers comic that was included in the back of the Diamond Edition of the G.I. JoeCon 2016 comic book.

Though, the way Fun Pub pulled off turning Sunstorm into SG Starscream was not as direct as simply asking Hasbro to let them change the former into the latter, but rather Fun Pub simply asked Hasbro if there could be "a few color changes made to that mold's deco". Hasbro never got back to them about that, so since Hasbro technically didn't say "No" that time (and didn't make a fuss over it afterward), Fun Pub took the initiative and were able to successfully get the overseas production to color the figure as SG Starscream, to celebrate the end of the Fun Pub Transformers era.

Jetstorm is the other one he REALLY wanted to see get made since there's never been a proper toy of Jetstorm that accurately represented his Beast Machines cartoon model. The above retool of Armada Starscream would have had all new legs, a new head, and according to Pete new hands (which aren't seen in the above mock-up).

The final panel of the day, at 4:30pm, was "The Secret History of the Transformers". This panel was hosted by Harold Tietjens, a longtime Transformers fan who is one of the seven men who have been to every single BotCon, and who co-authored (with Doug Dlin) the series of unofficial yet extremely detailed guidebooks titled Cybertronian: The Unofficial Transformers Recognition Guide.

This panel provided a basic rundown of the historical toylines that led to the development of the Transformers brand, from Getter Robo to Shogun Warriors, G.I. Joe to Henshin Cyborg, Microman to Micro Change, Diaclone to Diakron, and more. It was a cool history rundown and led to a nice Q&A about the state of robot toys from the 1970s and 1980s and their relation to the Transformers, such as Macross/Robotech, Machine Robo/GoBots, Super Sentai (Japanese Power Rangers), and Voltron.

The convention ended after the final panel at around 5:30pm, BUT there was one more event that took place in the dealer room at 4:00pm, before the final panel: The Grand Prize Raffle. Said grand prize was none other than the five physical mock-ups of the unofficial BotCon 2017 "Action on Hydrus Four" boxed set (none of the other figures, just the five boxed set ones) and their specially-made box packaging. This was a one-of-a-kind prize that would never be offered to the public again. Pete presided the raffle, while his mother was selected to be an impartial operator of the raffle cage. She spun the cage, drew a raffle ticket, and called out its number. The lucky winner of the prize was a young man named Logan Rogan, who is known on The Allspark Forums by the username Repugnus. He was so determined to win the set that he had bought a whopping 50 raffle tickets earlier that day. Wow.

Image

And that's all of the convention itself. It was a fun weekend that honored the legacy of BotCon at its core. Thanks go out to Pete, Jesse, and all those who helped make this weekend event possible. Whether or not there is to be more of this convention in proceeding years will be determined by how successful this one was. Until then, let's hope for the best!

HOWEVER, the fun's not over yet! Coming soon is Part 2 of this report, with all the exciting concept reveals that came about online after the convention ended! Keep a look out and stay tuned!

Part 2 - http://forum.unicron.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6773

This is Part 2 of the Unicron.com report for the first ever Pete's Robot Convention. It is strongly recommended that you read Part 1 before proceeding. Also, if you are viewing this from Facebook, it is equally advised that you click to view this report in the Unicron.com forum thread in which the report has been posted.

After the convention ended, even more special reveals continued to be unveiled via online sources. These reveals include many unproduced concepts for past BotCon and Collectors' Club exclusives, as well as behind-the-scenes information that went into the crafting of these concepts and those that were seen and/or discussed at Pete's Robo Con. All of these have been mirrored below.

Now, five days after the convention ended, the Pete's Robo Con Facebook posted formal digital mock-ups for all of the unofficial BotCon 2017 exclusives, as well as the mock-ups for the unproduced TFSS 6.0 figures.

Actionmaster Optimus Prime (redeco of Voyager class Optimus Prime's body) with Optimus Prime (redec o of Titan Master Infinitus), Rad (redeco of Titan Master Diac), and Lionizer (redeco of Sawback's Titan Master Vehicle lion). Notice how it's Titan Master Rad who forms the head of Optimus's body, while the Titan Master Optimus Prime is merely the driver for the toy's truck and jet modes.
Image

Actionmaster Skyfall (redeco of Deluxe Highbrow's body) with Skyfall (redeco of Titan Master Apeface)
Image

Actionmaster Sprocket (redeco of Deluxe Triggerhappy's body) with Sprocket (redeco of the Japanese Transformers: Legends Weirdwolf's Headmaster) and Attack Cruiser (redeco of Brawn's Titan Master Vehicle jeep)
Image

Actionmaster Megatron (redeco of Leader Six Shot's body) with Megatron (redeco of Titan Master Nucleon) and Devastator (redeco of Titan Master Repugnus)
Image

Actionmaster Gutcruncher (redeco of Voyager Megatron's body) with Gutcruncher (retool of Titan Master Doomshot/Hazard with a new face) and Scout Tank (redeco of Terri-Bull's Titan Master Vehicle tank)
Image

Dion (redeco of Deluxe Sergeant Kup's body) with Magnum (redeco of Titan Master Hyperfire)
Image

Doubledealer (redeco of Deluxe Hardhead's body) with Knok (redeco of Titan Master Nightbeat) and Skar (a significant retool of Titan Master Sawback with new bat wings, new bat feet, and a brand new face)
Image

BotCon Heritage Onyx Primal (redeco of Deluxe Mindwipe's body) with Nightwatch (redeco of Titan Master Infinitus), plus the swords of TF: Prime Deluxe Wheeljack/Dead End
Image

Unicron Trilogy Anniversary Armada Hot Shot (redeco of Deluxe Chromedome's body) with Alexis Thi Dang (retool of Titan Master Stylor with a new face) and Jolt (redeco of Generations Legends class Targetmaster Blazemaster). Alexis's deco is based on the space suit that she wore in the Unicron Battles arc of the cartoon. Specifically, the white bits and her helmet's colors, while the blue and maroon are due to those parts being gangmolded with the parts of those same colors on Hot Shot.
Image

Unicron Trilogy Anniversary Energon Megatron (redeco of Leader Sky Shadow's body) with Leader-1 (redeco of Titan Master Ptero with Ominus's face) with a sword from Construct-Bots Megatron
Image

Cassettron Rosanna (redeco of Legends class Rewind)
Image

Cassettron Decepticon Enemy (redeco of Legends class Rumble)
Image

Cassettron Flipsides (redeco of Legends class Rewind)
Image

Pretender Jazz (redeco of Titan Master Xort)
Image

Pretender Bumblebee (redeco of Titan Master Firedrive)
Image

Pretender Starscream (redeco of Titan Master Crashbash)
Image

Pretender Metalhawk (redeco of Titan Master Revolver)
Image

Pretender Crossblades (redeco of titan Master Diac)
Image

Pretender Vroom (redeco of Titan Master Grax)

Image

TFSS 6.0 General Thrust (retool of Combiner Wars Deluxe Afterbreaker with a new head)
Image

TFSS 6.0 General Jetstorm (retool of Generations Deluxe Armada Starscream with a new head, new legs, and according to Pete Sinclair, new hands)
Image

TFSS 6.0 Shattered Glass Rodimus Prime (redeco of Generations Voyager Springer)
Image

TFSS 6.0 Senator Ratbat (redeco of Titans Return Deluxe Mindwipe's body) with Recordicon Ratbat (redeco of the Titan Master Skar that would have come with BotCon 2017 Doubledealer)
Image

TFSS 6.0 Flywheels (redeco of Titans Return Voyager Blitzwing) with Skytread (redeco of Titan Master Skytread) Image

TFSS 6.0 Override (redeco of Titans Return Deluxe Blurr's body) with Lori (redeco of Titan Master Hyperfire). Lori's deco is based on the parts of the Titan Master that are gangmolded with the body.

The day after that, Jesse Wittenrich Tweeted in hand photos of the Doubledealer figure's newly-tooled Titan Master Skar:
In case no one got a photo of the concept case Skar robot face at @Petes_Robo_Con

Image
Image

He also Tweeted that the BotCon 2015 "Cybertron's Most Wanted" almost had a figure of "Enemy" in it, using the Masterpiece Rumble/Frenzy mold:
Has everyone seen those four Takara Tomy MP15/16-E Cassettes by now? Did you know that MP Enemy ALMOST made it into the BotCon 2015 box set?

Image

Additionally, even more digital mock-ups and info for everything given both above and Part 1 of this report, as well as even MORE unused Fun Pub toy concepts, were provided to The Allspark by Pete Sinclair, Jesse Wittenrich, and others, all of which have been mirrored below.

Firstly, Logan Rogan (username Repugnus), winner of the raffled boxed set, provided some in-hand close up pics of the Titan Master Devastator, itself a redeco of Titan Master Repugnus (how appropriate):

Image
Image
Image

Then, Jesse explained why the BotCon 2017 Action Master Optimus Prime mock-up had its head formed by Titan Master Rad instead of by Titan Master Optimus Prime:
Infinitus is Optimus. Rad is from Diac (so couldn't be seen at the convention because he was transformed as Optimus' head)

We wanted to keep the Optimus head from the Voyager, but couldn't get Diac to look convincingly enough like Optimus. Which is why he became Rad and Infinitus was included to be the driver of the Armored Convoy.

And also why Megatron ended up with the 2 Titanmasters as well.

And then, Pete shared a whole bunch of preliminary concepts for the BotCon 2014 "Pirates vs. Knights" exclusives:

In addition to Scorponok, this first boxed set group had Alpha Trizer, Flareup, Apelinq, Lio Convoy, and an unmade King Atlas from Generations Fall of Cybertron Starscream with a new head.
Image

This one swaps out Flareup with the Chromedome that we got in the TFSS 2.0.
Image

This one included Scorponok, Cannonball, and Devcon, along with King Atlas and the Battletrap that we got in the BotCon 2015 set.
Image

This one replaces Battletrap and King Atlas with Armada Demolishor (from Generations FOC Optimus Prime), his Mini-Con Blackout (from Arms Micron O.P.), and Powered Convoy (from Classics Voyager class Optimus Prime).
Image

This was to have been a new pirate character named Bloodmoon (retooled from Prime Dreadwing).
Image

Jesse provided some insight to this character:
Bloodmoon is a new character concept. We thought it would be cool to add someone new to the pirate crew, but ultimately the Voyager size class didn't feel "right" as the place to do so. It took up too much of the box set.

Color scheme is semi-inspired by Captain Harlock (an anime I know almost nothing about but I've liked the character design), and the mock-up uses Captain Shark's head as a stand in for what would have been a new design (but still have an eye-patch and "hat").

Bug Bite, believed to have been another pirate concept:
Image

Early concepts for Cannonball based on Prime Wheeljack and Prime Breakdown:
Image
Image

Insight from Jesse:
The latter was rejected because of the size the head would have to be. He'd either need a drastic redesign to his helmet or the head would have to be 3/4 (or less!) the size it is in that mock-up.

Wheeljack came next. The colors look great on the mold and the swords were decent cutlasses, but after doing the mock-up based on Ratchet's robot mode the decision was quickly made to leave the car concept behind.

Another look at Demolishor:
Image

Flywheels from the widely-controversial Generations Blitzwing mold:
Image

Another look at King Atlas, who would have been the king of the knights that year, but the mold wasn't available due to Skywarp being in production at the time that BotCon would have needed the mold.
Image

Malignus pirates! From the Prime Ironhide/Kup mold, based on the 1980s Brazilian-exclusive redecos of G1 Gears:
Image

The physical mock-up of Devcon and Slizardo (which were on display at the con) in Vehicle and Titan Master modes (from Jesse):
Image
Image

A "new pirate" character that never got a name, from the Prime Beast Hunters Wheeljack mold:
Image

Nominus Prime from the FOC Starscream mold:
Image

A physical mock-up of Nominus Prime, by Shawn D. Tessmann:
Image

Reflector pirates, from the Prime Ironhide/Kup mold:
Image

Scrapmetal troop-builder set from the Prime Rumble mold:
Image

One more boxed set concept, featuring Cannonball, Alpha Trizer, Apelinq, Bumper (from Prime Rumble), and, of all things, Turmoil! (from Prime Breakdown):
Image

Insight from Jesse about Bumper:
That was an odd situation. We conceptualized him very early on and were exceptionally excited by him. But as the set evolved around him, we fell out of love be with the concept and didn't mind cutting him from the lineup.

I still like the idea okay, but no where near that initial enthusiasm.

Turmoil was the original reason for Brimstone having a Targetmaster mode, as Turmoil was going to wield him before Brimstone's actual wielder ended up being Scorponok.
Image
Image
Image

More insight from Jesse about the above King Atlas and Lio Convoy (before the latter was officially made into a Beast Wars: Uprising toy):
King Atlas would have been the Arthur to Alpha Trizer's Merlin. A noble leader bringing the Knights together to safeguard Cybertron.

Lio Convoy would have been a (much) younger version of his BW 2 character, keeping the Japanese cartoon's timeline.

When asked about that Lio Convoy's relation to Optimus Primal:
Primal would have still been missing following the events of Beast Machines, so within the context of the comic it might not have been explored directly.

But obviously he'd know about Optimus Primal and respect him. And maybe learn more about his philosophies and teachings through Trizer. So that at the very least Primal is in spirit Lio Convoy's [role model].

Jesse also gave some story background info for the TFSS 5.0 Sunstorm figure that SG Starscream replaced:
We'd always planned for at least one of the Wreckers to die throughout the course of the story, so when we had one extra Combiner limb it seemed obvious that one of them had to go.

Wreckage's first attack on Thunder Mayhem was going to be less than successful with the Decepticon Combiner grabbing the arm made from Bluestreak and ripping it off/tearing it in half. As he then loomed in for the kill shot to take out the rest of the Wreckers, Sunstorm would show up, despite having rejected Impactor's offer to join, and with his savior complex in full force. He would replace the missing limb and with his shining fist burn a hole into Thunder Mayhem's chest to pluck the Thunderwing Matrix from its moorings. Without it, the Mayhem Attack Squad would decouple and the Wreckers could dispose of them.

It would have relied heavily on coincidence and undermine the role of the other Autobots, humans, and mutants so I'm actually sort of glad we didn't have to go with it.

Randy Para (author of SG Starscream's bio) shared his original bio for the Sunstorm figure, written on January 29th, 2016:
SUNSTORM
AEROSPACE WARRIOR
We must continue to soar until we reach transcendence.
With SUNSTORM's bright disposition, one might not assume he's spent most of his time secluded from his peers. His positive outlook and friendly demeanor are in spite of the fact that just being near a fellow TRANSFORMER could cause their circuits to sizzle and their internal systems to fail. For SUNSTORM has a fusion reactor running on overdrive. His mere presence, let alone a touch, can cause even the most resilient 'bots to buckle to their knees.

Due to the harm he can cause his teammates, SUNSTORM was the sole member assigned to the 83rd Seeker Squadron. As a Seeker he is an effective warrior and flyer. Focuses the radiation emanating from his body into a physical attack. Wields a double barreled Gamma-Ray Laser Cannon and a 5th Gen Xeresian Missile Launcher. In jet mode flies at 1,500 mph and utilizes Burst missiles. His reactor also allows him to traverse space at a max speed of 11,000 mph.

In limb form, SUNSTORM acts as an offensive and defensive weapon. As a defensive maneuver, he can replace the limb of an enemy combiner and focus his energy to seize up the gestalt's joints, halting movement. In arm mode, SUNSTORM's radiation and heat can be channeled into his combined form's fist. This energy makes his combined mode hand glow hot with energy for an attack SUNSTORM refers to as the "Shining Fist". Contact will cause extreme cases of internal and external damage.

STRENGTH 6
INTELLIGENCE 6
SPEED 10
ENDURANCE 8
RANK 5
COURAGE 9
FIREPOWER 10
SKILL 7

Randy also described a story proposal for Sunstorm:
Back before the change I had proposed a story where Sunstorm had haplessly stumbled from combiner team to combiner team. Ultimately always being there or partly responsible (due to his powers backfiring) for why Thunder Mayhem had taken the team out.

Combaticons (as the leg his foot would melt the ground underneath Bruticus making him an easy target)

G2 Stunticons ( as an arm the other Stunticons resentment for Motormaster would make him attack Menasor's head)

Torchbearers (he would have amped up Victorion's gravity powers too much that she would have thrown herself into space endlessly - he being able to escape due to his reactor)

Ultimately ending up in an Autobot prison where he would get the offer from Impactor. Only feeling at home with the other band of Wrecker misfits, and at that point being able to finally control his powers when combined.

Insight from Jesse about the above BotCon 2014 proposals for Chromedome, Battletrap, Flywheels, Demolishor, and Powered Convoy:
Until we dug out the old proposals, Pete and I had forgotten that Chromedome was even part of one of the box set concepts. If I were to guess he was there because of his role in Headmasters/Masterforce. And because the figure had swords. (I prefer the faux-IDW story he ended up getting.)

Battletrap and Flywheels were both considered for the Star Seekers - although the specifics of their leaving the Decepticons for the pirates were never developed. Flywheels was only briefly in the line-up because when Pete and I got our hands on the Blitzwing toy... Let's just say it didn't leave a great impression. Springer though was (and still is!) amazing, so we held onto Battletrap even if he needed to get bumped back a year.

Demolishor, being a "new" addition to the Wingsverse, might not have gotten any special focus as far as being a Decepticon goes. He probably would have just been a Star Seeker. But again his toy was dropped (similar reasons to Flywheels) before his story details were fully explored.

Powered Convoy was the prototype for Ginrai, so to speak. So his story would have been largely the same, just with the Masterforce hints being a little more Diaclone.

Further insight about SG Starscream from Jesse:
it wasn't a victory lap or imposing anything on the fans - we wanted the capstone character to be something we worked on, but we did also consider the fans. It wasn't a selfish thing. Like I've said before, there was and still a fairly large following for the SG version of Starscream in Japan and the Asia Market (and over here too, but not quite as prolific as far as fan art, stories, etc), but it's almost impossible to get the 2008 figures without paying $2000 or more. So giving those fans one more chance at the character seemed like a nice thing to do.

I'll also say I wasn't a huge fan of Sunstorm either - without Takara's sprue-breaking magic, that mold just doesn't capture the G1 Seeker in any meaningful way. A CW Sunstorm put out by Fun Pub wouldn't have been any better than the 2013 Rainmaker toy (ugh, still wish that set name had been fixed). I mean it would have been an orange jet and orange jets are cool, but it would have been a weak homage and a weak figure to end on.

And finally, a word from Pete on how the TFSS 5.0 would have been done differently had the news of its being the final subscription service been made known to the Fun Pub sooner:
In hindsight? Would have replaced Lifeline and the seeker mold with BM Jetstorm and SG Rodimus Prime.

Something occurs to me, these figure in part look great because one guy was able to concentrate on hand-doing all the perfect details. But Mock Ups, for good or ill, never end up being what the final product looks like, and sometimes the little details that FunPub wanted to do or were done in the initial the Factory couldn't allot.

Would they all have been this perfect? Could we expect the Factory to detail the Titan Masters? Could we expect that detailing to be s detailed when repeated a thousand times over as 'this one figure is? Would Gutcruncher have preserved his insane color palette when it came time to mass production? Are we maybe getting a "Rose Colored Glass" because these were done by a customized? Or were they painted with perfect regard to what the Factories could put out?

Oh sure! Definitely a little bit of that going on. When you combine that with the fact that we have NO IDEA what (if any) exclusives are coming, you also get a little bit of "you don't know what you've got til it's gone" as well.

All of that being said; I love almost EVERY SINGLE use of the Prime molds. They're all sooo pretty!!!

Way back like two years ago, when we saw the first line-art previews for the Titans Return (then called Titan Wars) toyline, and nobody could tell who Sentinel Prime was meant to be, I already thought the design looked like Armada Jetfire.

Image

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who saw it, and it turned out spectacular. I wish there were some chance of this figure somehow seeing the light of day.

In all fairness, it was a staff member that asked the off-topic question. I really like the Action Master redos, and I'm not a big Action Master fan. I have TFCC Treadshot though and he is sweet. Would liked to have that Sprocket and Gutcruncher so he isnt so alone. Those Pretender headmasters are kinda cool but I like the new PotP Pretenders better. Doubledealer is really good looking, new headmaster design is good but I would want the Ramhorn repaint head like Takara is putting out. One of my favorite things is seeing the behind the scenes type stuff of how the stories and box sets come together. I will greatly miss the TFCC fiction.

EDIT: Oh and that Hotshot looks tight. But shouldnt the universe implode or something? Seems the customizer painted un-paintable plastic.

with a good enough paint, and a file, I am sure you can get the paint to hold, bit I bet thats eggshell thin and extremely chipable

The descriptions of the cancelled Botcon figures don't make them sound like much, but man do they look cool. That Armada Jetfire is real neat, and the Double Dealer as well.
