Because Trypticon said "Any Cybertronian who interferes will be neutralized," which counts out both the cons AND the bots. That leaves the kids, who are obviously NOT Cybertronian.

Yeah, but do you remember what happened when starscream used energon on Fowler? Or when (I don't know the right sprelling) Rahf got infected by dark energon? Both times they were weapons, sure. But whos to say the halls arent armed with security blasters and the like?
