Got my preorders in at both Hasbro and Amazon, just in case. I wonder when Ratchet will be revealed.

Not really interested in "Core" Ironhide, but Leader 86 Snarl is a must-have so far as I'm concerned. Reserved my copy, and will await his arrival...

Transformer Tuesday? Just another day for me with nothing that interesting happening. An rather lackluster in the wake of nothing interesting to me for months. It really is starting to seem like 23 is going to be a very light year with maybe only two releases I plan to buy.

Though I guess 22 wasn't much better since most of the stuff I bought was actually from 21.

The idea of a perfectly G1 looking Megatron bot that change into a tank is out there. I found that Megatron mousepad on Amazon.

Image

The art is official too.
So, having a SS86 leader Megatron that would look like this and transform like this is not a far-fetched idea.

I’d say it’s time to make this happen…
Especially while the SS86 subline is still going.
And I’d hope all of the focus gets put into the bot mode; it’s not like there are aspects of a tank that need to be accurately addressed to match what was seen in an episode, let alone the movie.
In fact I’d be okay if the alt mode was a “Cybertonian” tank or spaceship if that meant there are no treads in the lower legs (or anywhere).

I’ve been pretty okay with the 35th Anniversary figure, but it does fall a bit short.

Throw-out the energon mace, & package him with the “light saber” & blaster he used in the final battle.
Assuming the appearance, engineering, and articulation are on point,
I’d happily pay leader class cost for this version.

There's no realistic way for that tank to become that Megatron. Where did the turret go? Where did his legs come from? What happened to the treads? Maybe a Masterpiece with lots of tiny folding panels could pull this off, but there's no chance of it being done at retail.

That's basically just the Earthrise tank with the Siege turret. It wouldn't look that clean, but a retool of those would be pretty close.

Plus, there's enough room in those legs to store the tank threads. It has been done before easily.

My point is that it’s time to make a Megatron figure (for SS86) with a screen-accurate robot mode even if the alt mode is a tank.
No one is going to purely buy that figure for the tank mode anyway.
So if the bot parts cause misalignment where similar colors don’t match up for the alt mode, who cares.
It’s not ideal, but since a pistol alt mode will never be an option, something’s got to give.
With the bot mode being more important anyway, I’d say put all the eggs in that basket…
Very, very few are going to complain.

Isn't looking clean the whole point? He'd still have the front of the tank sticking out of his back hiding the treads in his legs wouldn't hide the the tank details. How do you take him from tank to gun detailed legs? It can be done by turning the legs inside out, but at that point you may as well start over from scratch. Sure wouldn't be a Voyager.

That's the whole point.
As a "voyager" sized Leader, he would have the parts needed to pull it off.

That was in response to AcademyofDrX saying it could be retooled from Voyager Earthrise Megatron.

Or instead of a retool, retain the basic engineering of those molds but use the budget of a Leader. I'm not trying to be the product manager for the figure design, I'm just saying none of this is fundamentally impossible.

And to return to the point about whether the final product could look as "clean" as the illustration, that can be cheated in either direction. If a hypothetical Studio Series bot mode looks perfect, but the turret or treads are compromised, how many people would care that much? We're talking about an alt-mode that never appeared onscreen, after all.

Oh, no retool of any kind would work.
This leader G1 Tank-Megs should be a brand new mold, designed from scratch.

If they do make a Leader Class SS-86 Megs, would any one want it to have a 3rd un-referenced / un-acknowldeged gun mode built in? Even if it's not really a Walther P-38, just some form of potential gun mode?

Or is him being a tank, but having an accurate robot mode enough?

What is the point of a gun mode that doesn't look like his on-screen equivalent?

Just to have a gun mode.

That's the question: would you want a gun mode even if it's not the precisely a Walther P-38? Just a gun mode, that kind of looks like a gun, or does it not matter at all as long as the robot mode is accurate enough the gun mode is not that important, or if there could be a gun mode, it must accurately represent the Walther P-38?

I'm trying to understand how important the actual Walther P-38 mode is.

Just to have a gun mode....

No, that's pointless. This isn't like a car, where you change the hood or the headlights to bypass a license, but it still looks similar. The hypothetical gun mode wouldn't be realistic at all. Arguably there could be a nerf gun, or a fake ray gun, or weird neon colors, but it's not going to look anything like his on-screen version, so it adds no value.
