Pass!
New combiner head that allows both toy- and cartoon-accuracy, new elbows for 2/3 of the team while the other third gets new knees, possibly more tooling on Scavenger and Bonecrusher to fill in Devastator's armpits, individual weapons, and improved paint job?
Maybe not eighty, but definitely worth extra dough.
So now I play the waiting game for good ol' TCP to get theirs up.

You don't have to sell me on it. It's clearly the better set by far. I just don't agree with that price. (nor should you but it's your money..)
So I'll either play the waiting game for a price drop later down the line or do w/o it altogether since there's no way I'd settle for Hasbro's version unless the 3P add ons are better and cost less.

No way am I going thru an aftermarket mess. I recently paid $240 for TT Metroplex. eBay will have a field day with TT Dev aftermarket pricing.
At least I won't get charged til December. Gotta start asking for overtime at work!

Somebody needs to get fired for that decision.
So someone needs to lose their job and be unable to support their family for making a kid's toy a different kind of cement truck than one that they made 30 years ago?

I don't get all ga-ga whenever Takara slaps some extra paint on a toy...but this...this goes above what I expect and I have to say, if you want a Devastator, I think TakaraTomy deserves your money.

Adding to your statement Sunstorm, Takara even added the paint to make the leg work as G1 accurate and for anyone to simply flip the truck around in alt mode if needed.

All the known changes made to Takara Devastator compared to Hasbro's retail version:
- More show-accurate deco
- Brand new headsculpt that contains a retractable visor to switch between both head designs
- Brand new gun weapons for each individual figure, all of which can store on Devastator's back
- Re-engineered arms for Scrapper to give him elbows
- Re-engineered arms for Long Haul to give him proper elbows
- Re-engineered arms for Hook to give him better (and double-jointed) elbows
- Re-engineered arms for Mixmaster to give him better (and double-jointed) elbows
- Re-engineered legs for Scavenger to give him better knees
- Re-engineered legs for Bonecrusher to give him better knees

Which makes this Devy even better! As for my stand on which to get, I would love to get this one over the Hasbro or SDCC versions, except I can't afford it. And besides, I'd be keeping him in combined mode (And I don't need the retooled head with the flip-up sunglasses because I don't like the eyes on the first place), so elbows wouldn't matter. And because of the fact that I don't like chrome (and the eyes thing), I'll pick the retail Devastator.

Looking at the other page, there is a 3rd party add on that actually adds a cab that covers the foot, making Mix look much more convincing.

I'm still ok with the reverse cement truck though. So The only reason this kit interests me is the Prowlastator head. The cab if anything looks exactly like green giants (I think that's what that one is called?)

Not counting the redeco, that's $10 per improvement that I think totally justifies the $80 increase in the price. Definitely getting this one over the Hasbro version.
Put it this way, the money you save in not buying the umphteen version of Optimus Prime can go towards getting the superior version (thanks Hasbro) that Takara is giving us.

Put in my pre-order at The Chosen Prime for $225 shipped. Of course I wish the price was lower ($175 would have been nice), but considering I was prepared to pay $300 to get the SDCC version off eBay if necessary, it's fine. Shame though that it'll likely be January before we get it; don't Takara releases always happen at the end of the month?

RobotKingdom also lists this product as MSRP of 25,000 JPY. So it looks like they are offering it at about a 10% discount, which can be normal for other Japanese retailers. The problem with that (speaking specifically for myself and any other US customers) is the shipping for an item that large. RK quoted me $87, so I just went ahead and preordered from BBTS. While I sincerely doubt other Japanese retailers would quote me the same shipping price (even at EMS rates), it's still an important factor to consider.
Here's hoping you get the price you are looking for.

Scale issues in a mytho that uses mass shifting as an all around excuse/explanation?

I thought Transformers or the Transformers lifeform is always "improving" or changing /transforming? Mixmaster, though no longer toy accurate is also based on an actual vehicle so no biggy an issue.

That's all well and good. But X wanted to pose this devy along with the other CW combiners into a show accurate scale and replace his 3rd party toy. But since it turns out Hasbro went for a much bigger scale for devastator, he cant. This has nothing to do with what makes sense and doesnt make sense, its just about him wanting his toys to look good together on the shelf and since this Devastator is not in scale with the other CW combiners (and their 3rd party counterparts), he wont buy it. Simple as that. I dont get why we have to constantly debate this. everyone is free to have their own reasons as to why they will or wont buy something.

Do they not realize that he seems to have been engineered to look like either type of cement truck, depending on the direction you face him?
This is especially evident when you look at the Takara version and its paint apps. No front loader Cement Truck has that main windows on their back. And from what I understand, that back piece of a Front Loader is normally an engine block, with no windows at all. Normally there's a big vent on the face of it. There's no way it's an accident that they made Mixmaster work in both directions.
You can make him look like his G1 vehicle by just turning him around. That's it.

So here's the price prediction I made in the CW Devastator thread:
With that we might be able to predict the Japanese MSRP on Devastator at US$179.99 or around ¥22,300
I was off by 9 cents.

Don't trust the prices from BBTS and TFSource as they're marked up to include importing costs and additional profits. Robotkingdom's MSRP of 25,000JPY most certainly includes sales tax for them to sell at that price so it's more like 23,000JPY. Factor in AmiAmi's typical discount and they'll probably have it possibly as low as 17,250JPY or US$140, effectively making it cheaper than either Hasbro version. Shipping will no doubt bring it up to a little over SDCC Devi's price, but that's hardly a complaint.
If everyone is putting pre-orders up then we should expect Japanese sites to put theirs up soon. Maybe tonight or next week.

They aren't really much for vents though, it's not like they've put a grate over them like they would have in the real world. It's pretty obvious they were sculpted with a dual purpose in mind for when combined.

It's not so much a new cab as it is paint on pre-existing detail. Takara put Silver on the "Engine" to bring attention to the pseudo-grill already on the mold.
I was saying it since we first saw Combiner Wars Mixmaster in detail: The detailing is there to make him work in either direction in vehicle mode. It's just that Takara is the only one putting paint on the detail to make it apparent.

If you want to get technical, I would say they actually do scale. Think about it: construction vehicals are bigger than regular vehicals. Hence, the Constructicons being voyagers makes sense when you realize that Motormaster, a semi truck, is a voyager, and semi trucks and construction vehicals are approximately (ish) the same size.

Using vehicles as your scale example is not the way to go, especially on this series. You have fighter jets the size of sportscars, Firetrucks the size of Commercial Passenger Planes, and Tanks the size of Ambulances.
The thing is, the characters go off of robot scale more. Especially compared to the G1 cartoon/comics. While Scramble City teams always had a big guy and 4 normal sized guys (Normal sized being the standard for most Autobots; Decepticons tended to be hefty fellas at the beginning of the series), the Constructicons have always been the same height evenly throughout the team. And they weren't small dudes in the cartoon. When the animation was right, they stood the same height as Seekers and just under the height of Megs, Soundwave, Shockwave, etc.
Unfortunately, making the Constructicons scale in robot mode with other character's robot modes, makes Devastator a very large fellow.
Posted by fenrir72 on July 2nd, 2015 @ 6:50pm CDT

But if we do compare the actual scale of a Caterpillar vehichle like Longhaul over a military or civilian vehicle, the Constructicons do tower over all others. That and perhaps agains the never been released Raiden team.
Back to my old argument, though it can be really crazy with all sorts of sizes for TF figures like a Goldilocks porridge, I too would want some sanity imposed but for Devastator? He just fit right.

I don't see that happening since both Giant and Hercules both fulfilled the need for a Supreme Class-sized Devastator made of six Deluxe-sized figures (as opposed to a Titan class-sized one made of us six Voyager-sized figures) quite a while ago, and I can't see yet a third 3rd-party Devastator being any cheaper than either of those two.Gearslide wrote:Hmmm... All this demand for a smaller Devastator makes me wonder if we'll see a company down the road make a knock-off of the Constructicons that are smaller scaled to be the same height as the other teams in combined mode.
