Videos of Studio Series 86 Bonecrusher, Scavenger and Galvatron

Toys Are Russ has even more Hasbro sponsored content for us, now for figures under the SS86 banner. The Galvatron review gives a great look at how different the colors are this time around.

But even better, he presents the newly revealed SS86 Constructions, Scavenger and Bonecrusher. Many fans claim these are very similar to the combiner wars iterations so this video could shed some light on how different (or not) they are.

I'm just not feeling the new Constructicons all that much. First, I don't like that there's very little difference between the size of Scavenger and Bonecrusher and neither fills the packaging at all. Second, I don't like the release format of two limbs with nothing to combine them too. Say what you will, but during Combiner Wars there was always the option to combine, even if it wasn't complete. Releasing an arm and a leg is too close to third party for my tastes. Unite Warriors, the ONLY version that should've been released, was an all-in-one package that just felt complete. I've always believed that Devastator was bigger than the other combiners, yes I know size is relative in Transformers and I really can't judge, but still. I'll buy these just because but I'm also hoping for the line to be canceled before all of them are released just to watch the world burn.

TBH, if I can't get/don't have Breakdown before or by the time the Constructicons start arriving I've got no incentive to even start getting them. I don't want to be left hanging at the end like I am with Menasor. Supposedly fixed or not, it just doesn't instill confidence. Outside of a repack/refresh I don't know how they possibly address it, release a alternate color? lol

The gray model does look pretty neat though! Looks to be sturdier than the last version as well.

I confess I'm not sure about the new Devastator. Yes, it looks good. But CW Titan Devastator still holds up really well after all this time. And I didn't see all that much difference in the robot modes for Scrapper and Bonecrusher from the CW Voyagers. Elbow articulation is nice - but the arms are still completely hollow. They seriously took the time to add elbow articulation, but totally forgot to fill in the arm gaps?

Plus, it's still not known how well the combined mode will hold up with their leg joint system. If it turns out to be floppy and unstable like the PotP combiners...

Dang it, now I have to get that Galvatron mold AGAIN. That bluish purple looks so much better than the Kingdom and Legacy versions. I do have the Selects which I like, but I wish Hasbro would come out with the comic edition.

Now I wonder if we'll get Cyclonus again as well with slight deco tweaks.

Like the G2 Breakdown we're getting at the end of Legacy United? ;)

Here’s the thing, Hasbro cheated out on Combiner Wars Devestator, BUT the problems were fixed by the Unite Warriors version. Yes that Devestator towers over Bruticus and the like, but it is a six-member combiner and they are big vehicles. I like that the individual bot look the seekers and Megatron in the face.
So now the question is do I want to spend hundreds to replace it with a smaller figure? Probably not.

Time to catch up on some SS86 stuff.

First up, got my Dinobots grouped up at last.

And from that group, I give you the good:

The bad:

And the Fugly:

Next up, I got SS86 Springer. First off, i regret that 2 weeks after I got him he was on Prime days sale. next up, I kinda regret this purchase too. He just doesn't feel worth the leader price, he doesn't feel different enough from my Wrecker Siege one to justify himself, and he also feels finnicky. But, I will keep him to go on my Skybound shelf.

At least his hammer can go with Siege Magnus

I also got Steeljaw. He is completely forgettable

Image

I also got SS86 Ratchet for my Skybound shelf. He is good, partly because i love the character of Ratchet, and partly because the mold is pretty OK.

I also succceeded in finding SS86 Prime at Target for $71. Definitely a nice mold, though I don't really care about the trailer, his effects parts and axe are all a bit too rubbery for my liking, and I wish his head sculpt was more Skybound.

As for the new reveals, I am just going to wait on a Devastator repaint in the future to try out that combiner, CW still has me down good there.

Nice pics with Omega Supreme! It's nit to see his height relative to Jetfire so I can get an idea if the case I have is tall enough.

And as usual true to form Scrapper sells out on Pulse, so I do preorder Bonecrusher anyway?
Then take a chance on restock, or try elsewhere for both. I'm honestly not keen on EE at the moment as I've already had a few fall through and I'm still waiting on Beachcomber and Frenzy. I get the feeling those will not every happen...

After finally getting to watch the stream, the Constructicons do look pretty good compared to the older ones I had as a kid.

I'm kind of feeling the same way about Galvatron... Don't get me wrong, I want this new version and it does look much better imo.
But considering we're talking the specific paint colors, it's a shame this deco wasn't used right off the bat. I sold off my previous Kingdom version a while ago, so I'm ready to have this character again.

I don't think we'll get another Cyclonus. For me, the original deco is pretty spot-on. The next version should be leader class since he should be taller than Galvatron. In fact, I truly wouldn't care if it was the exact same mold just made larger... So it would literally just be more plastic, but no new designing, retooling, etc. Hastak would still make plenty of profit from that situation.

I'm preordering two sets of these Constructicons. Yeah, there are issues, and it's pretty clear that the only way to get every aspect of every mode completely on point, each figure needed a leader class budget.
I don't blame anyone for skipping this, especially if you really only want this group of figures for the combined mode; the CW/UW Devy still does hold up, especially when scaled with mainline and SS86 figures.
For me, more of the pull of this new set is the individual bots... Again, I can already see things that slightly bug me, but they're still pretty good, and I have to believe that Long Haul will be exponentially better. I also plan on having these 6 displayed together as individual bots, with no other figures. So the fact that they're slightly too small won't be quite as noticeable.
There are two aspects of the new Devastator that are noticeably off to me-- the lower legs are too short. The back section of Scrapper (his lower legs) is too short. This isn't as easy to see if you just look at Mixmaster, but if these were even three-quarters of an inch taller, I think it would really help the overall proportions.
The other thing is that the chest plate is too low from the top of the torso... It's not too close to the waist, but if this were higher, those two gaps would basically be covered up.

I'm still happy with what we've seen. And I can't wait to see Hook and Long Haul!

I burned some cash-ola at the time and at 2 different times getting UW Devastator just to have one set merged and the other not. The thought of something breaking while combing back and forth made me cautious of it all.

But now I'm giving serious thought of keeping my Devastator and trading out my UW Constructicons for upcoming Series 86 wrecking crew!!!

I wonder if HasTak is considering a G2 repaint down the way? :-? :VEHI:

I lately Reprolabelled all of my 86 Dinobots.
Damn was that lots of work! Especially for Snarl and Sludge. So many tiny, tiny stickers...

Still, once labelled, they all look so much better.

Bonecrusher is on Amazon, and Scrapper is on Walmart.com.

I'm not at all trying to borrow trouble, but it's going to be very interesting to see how available these two are in a couple months or so... Of course things can change, but for the last three years, and we'll say the last two to be a bit further post-pandemic, I've never seen any titans or Commander class figures in-store. This is between multiple Targets and multiple Walmarts. And even with increased efforts to get Hook and Long Haul distributed well, CC releases are never going to be as plentiful as deluxes and voyagers. I really thought I'd see Motormaster back when he was released, specifically in a Target since I got my two copies from Target.com...
So really, no matter how distribution goes for these first two Constructicons, for those of us really wanting this set, I'd say the best bet is to be quick on the draw with preorders. Especially that CC release.

Certainly no one should expect finding all six at retail at the same time.

After Pulse botched Scrapper/Bonecrusher pre-orders, I went to BBTS and promptly pre-ordered them.

If you're considering Amazon, just beware you may be paying higher prices.

Indeed. Waiting for them to go live on Amazon.ca.

It is impossible that :HASBRO: will make a limited run of the 86 Constructicons. More preorders will come up and second runs will be made. Let's just be patient.

Perhaps. But the Kingdom figure is practically all lavender and no light blue, which he had in TF:TM. So if Hasbro wants true accuracy, there needs to be another version. Like they did with Scourge and the Sweep. Scourge wasn't really screen accurate either, the Sweep looks more like their on-screen version, so that's who I'm using as my movie Scourge. And Scourge is on the comic shelf with Selects Cyclonus.
