We have our First Look at how the TF Animated Style will Translate to the Generations Legacy Line

The way Hasbro has handled the Transformers Prime characters in the Legacy line made a few fans worried of how they would handle the animated characters, since we know Hasbro will be tackling those in 2023. Well, we have our first look with Legacy Evolution Animated Prowl. While he is very faithful to his Animated self, he does sport a more traditional Generations style head. We also have our first look at the deluxe Junkion motorcyle which can be disassembled, which is the gimmick for the Legacy Evolution line. These images come from Daimchoc reports.

Prowl looks exactly like how I'd imagine he'd be. But I don't need him. Unlike "generations" lugnut, this Prowl doesn't seem to offer any new tricks or anything interesting. He's just straight up the animated character if he was blocky rather than curved. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, though I don't see the need for it.
However, as we get to toys like the Prime toys and Animated toys, the original toys are way closer to the animated models than the G1 toys are compared to G1 character models so we get to this point where a "new" release doesn't really offer much over a reissue. The exception would be for characters that never had proper toys, like Prime Knockout. One heck of a missed opportunity on that one.

As for the Junkion, I am getting STRONG TF Energon vibes from that bot mode design.

That Junkion bike is awesome. I love these new characters and how much personality is put into them

Here comes all the whining and pitching about Prowl. tHatS nOt hoW hE loOkeD. They're not gonna make the seem string bean mf as in the show, all the characters in the show had those weird spindly proportions. And it looked awesome. But this isn't that. This is meant to have all the characters blend in, and he looks awesome! Bike mode looks cool, robot mode looks cool. Not even super clunky looking. And the headsculpt is cool, they blended the styles nicely. Definitely picking this guy up. All the whiners can stick to the original figures. I'm loving that I can have my favorite characters with a more cohesive look. And this is wayyyy better than knockout and Prime arcee. Knock outs robot mode looks like crap. Prime arcee just doesn't have good engineering. I love my wreckers Bulkhead. Armada starscream looks good but toy itself seems underwhelming. And hot shot almost seems too faithful, the blocky arms and flat head/face look straight out of Armada instead of being stylized. Can't please everyone I guess, but I'm excited for more TF:A figures based on this prowl. Shockwave and blitzwing please. Grimlock. Lockdown. Ratchet. Everyone

I still have TFA Prowl, it's an excellent figure. I don't find this Legacy depiction nearly as objectionable as I did with their Prime Bulkhead. Prime Bulkhead literally looked like an Optimus Prime body with Bulkhead's noodle perched on top like a coconut. Legacy Prime Arcee was... a nice try.

But this Legacy Animated Prowl looks good. Sure the head is different, but the alt mode looks well contrived. I hope they don't have a traffic light for a secondary melee weapon!

I looooove me some 'bike 'bots, and these two look fantastic. The Junkion looks hardcore and a great pair with the others.

Now, for Animated Prowl....
This,

This looks so much better than what I expected. Granted I do agree it's probably the "safest" way to do it, but I appreciate it actually looking like the "G1 aesthetic" while not betraying the Wyatt style. Gives me good hopes for more Legacy Animated figures, and another good motorbike for the collection. ;)^

Maybe the new Animated Prowl will also be retooled into a Junkion? Perhaps a female one?

That interests me more than the figure as is. I can see where Hasbro would consider it jarring to have figures in the same assortment done in radically different art styles, but this does leave me pessimistic about the possibilities for forgotten Animated characters finally getting the toys they deserve. Unless, of course, Hasbro revisiting them stirs up enough interest in TF Animated that a 3P starts doing show-accurate toys, as was done for Prime characters starting a couple years ago.

I mean, I like this better than the Legacy Prime characters' toys so far, but this line has me more excited for Junkion army-building than anything else in the coming year.

It won't be since the deal with the Junkions is that they can detach themselves and rearange themselves together or with other bots, which isn't a feature on this prowl. If I had to guess how this could be reused, I'd go for Cybertron Ransack or one of the other decos.

Loving Prowl! I think people were setting their expectations way too high for a line that's all about G1-ifying other universes. Even though he isn't all spindly he's still instantly recognizable as Animated Prowl and in a body that doesn't really suit anyone else since they sculpted in all of the stripes on his arms rather than taking the easy way out and using tampos. I could maybe see this retooled into Armada Sideways, but that's about it. He even has the right weapons (where are people seeing guns?), I think the overall figure is perfect.

Rtron wrote:Arcee was just a premold for Road Rocket, of all things.

Not true, we've seen the design sketches, the RR head was very much an afterthought. If it were the other way around the figure would have started male.

I could see a ransack

Which head?

Emerje wrote:He even has the right weapons (where are people seeing guns?), I think the overall figure is perfect.

Probably the rods the handlebars are on, behind the head. Prowl only has those wheel-shuriken, but Armada Sideways has those tailpipe missiles. He was still originally intended as a Ninja-like character, but more as comedy relief with the "little angel vs. little devil" schtick.

I likewise could see a Ransack, at the very least one based off of Animated Ransack, but a Sideways could be managed with this mold too! Though I do agree this seems very much meant to be Prowl.

The Junkion figure looks really good. Animated Prowl also looks surprisingly spectacular.

I had to reorganize my Kingdom/Legacy Beast Wars display. The "main G1" above and the rest below. I'm still missing Inferno and Lio Convoy will be Dragon Megs's opponent.

I love my boneyard!

You know, that would have been neat. And made more use of Crosswise and Rook. The ninja motif also explains why both of his Mini-Con heads ended up looking shady.

Here's the thing, though: Forcing characters from substantially different aesthetics to conform to the G1 look instead of being faithful kinda undercuts the homage; "Okay we'll acknowledge this... but we refuse to really honor its signature look". I'll agree that Animated Prowl is waaay better than what we saw with the Prime cast in 2022, but it's still kind of iffy.

So. Legacy Soundwave is my first time having the SIEGE Soundwave mold. It's a neat design, but I'm definitely noting some issues. One is that they didn't properly check clearance between the + end of Soundwave's shoulder cannon, and the engines. It's not as bad as Kingdom Rodimus' trailer rifle storage (where, in my experience, you have to leave the rifle partly unfolded to close the trailer without the tip snagging) but it's definitely noticeable.
More annoying is the leg panels used for the altmode. Their clearance and/or alignment is also off. They refuse to actually fold down and tab in for robot mode, they spring back out just shy of the slots and don't sit flat against the legs. They also force a bit of a droop in altmode.
Is this an issue on anyone else's copy, and was it present on the SIEGE release?

color me surprised. I honestly expected them to just re-use the arcee mold for prowl. not only that, but this is the another one that I really like how they worked it out. I like it.

I actually gasped (in a good way) when I saw Prowl - he looks great! Now I'm excited to see which other characters end up in the line. Longarm Prime would be loads of fun... :saint:

I'm long overdue for a rewatch of the show.

These are gonna look so awesome rotting on the pegs at Walmart & Target with all the other garbage. Month after month seeing the same crap hanging on the pegs never selling. Patiently waiting for the inevitable clearance sales.

My Walmarts keep selling and restocking wave 1, over and over, same with the exclusive Beast line. All this overstock on the top shelf (including stuff further to the left you can't see) from November is gone now.

It's not that these aren't selling and are lingering on the shelves, it's that it's the only wave Walmart ordered (same story with Core class and SS Deluxe class).

If they are going to try capitalising on beast bots in the live action they might revisit beast wars time lines and do prowl as Waspinator, ransack or reverb? Always kinda looked like him.

As Emeje said, it not that they shelfwam. It's because they keep ordering wave 1 over and over for some reason. So I bet for the toys you hate, they will order that wave only ONE time, get instantly sold out, then never to be seen again.

I'm practically done bothering shopping anything in brick and mortar stores. I now preorder everything that I truly want and pay full price. For the less important stuff, those can wait an online sale.
Despite the fact that so many of the things I paid full price for end up being overstocked and on clearance even online, DOTM Guzzle traumatised me with an incurable case of FOMO.
