Darn shame, the tech spec for wheelie painted him as a toughened survivalist. It's the movie writers who turned him into a rhyming child. After that the personality stuck.

I agree with Scaleface. In fact, that describes so much about TF's. The tech specs introduced amazing characters, then writers went and screwed them up. We really have not been blessed with good writers in any of our media.

Why? As much as I liked Wheelie and from what I remember of Armada Side Swipe, Wheelie (at least as he was portrayed in the movie) was much more annoying.

I found his rhyming to be an interesting writing situation. Can you imagine having to be the writer who has to come up w/ all those lines and make them work? I couldn't do it. I don't find Wheelie to be annoying, I find him to be a challenge, and a perfect companion to Daniel in regards to being a peer and guardian. Kind of like a younger version of Spike & Bumblebee.

Maybe IDW will do a spotlight that shows off his original Tech Spec character. Done right, the rhyming could come off kind of creepy like Wierdwolf or Shrapnel's eccentricities, though creepy wouldn't really fit either incarnation of the character.*
Almost wish the Kup Spotlight had been Wheelie instead. Insanity would have been good justification for his rhyming.

Wheelie is the sole survivor from a party of intergalactic colonists who crash landed on Earth. He's a barbaric little savage who managed to stay alive by cunning, stealth, and fearlessness. Speaks in odd rhyming sentences and despises the Decepticons. Fights only when he's under attack and has to defend himself. Staunch friend to the Dinobots and a reliable ally for Hot Rod and Kup.
PROFILE
Wheelie is the "wild boy" of Quintesson- an Autobot-like youth lost when his ship went down, the only survivor of his party, staying alive by cunning and stealth and fearlessness. He speaks in odd, rhyming sentences and despises the Sharkticons and Quintessons, who are his mortal enemies. He is a staunch friend to the Dinobots, who take to him immediately, and a reliable ally in difficulties for Hot Rod and Kup when they take on the Sharkticons.
ABILITIES
He fights only when he's under attack and has to defend himself. He uses a three-bladed knife and a sling which hurls fire stones when he must attack his enemies or defend himself.

Well, I can't argue about the Wheelie-annoyance-factor from the G1 series......from the second I heard that little fart, I wanted to gouge his optics out with a coke-spoon!

I think Dreamwave's take on him was getting him closer to the original tech spec bio. I can't remember if he talked in rhymes, though, or at all even.
