Wait wait... he's only slightly larger than Classics Grimlock in Dino mode?

Other than that though, I'm impressed. I may have to reassign Classics Grimlock to my PCC shelf as personal trainer to Grimstone.

Grimlock looks awesome. The side by side of him with the deluxe Classics Grimlock, all I can say is that its sad that the new voyager scale is almost the old deluxe scale. If Hasbro keeps down scaling we are going to have a return of Micromasters before we know it

Ok, from the other thread I said that I wanted to see more photos of the back and profile to figure out how much kibble there is. Wish granted!
And I like him! Yay! Definitely picking this one up when (if) he shows up.

As for the Deluxe comparison, I believe it's just perspective.
Yes, he may be smaller, but not that small. Can he?

That comparison isn't intended as a size comparison, it's an aesthetic comparison. They aren't side-by-side, so FoC Grimmy looks smaller than he actually is.

Tail reminds me of a slug.

Don't get me wrong I'm still getting this guy, BUT, the Dino mode is a little more of a let down than I had hoped/thought it would be.
Bot mode looks great if in need of a few paint apps,,but the tail is stubby, has a chest hole, and from underneath looks to hollow ( as do the shoulders in bot mode)
It's better than classic by far, and the only reason I feel a little let down is I wasn't able to see the hole in Dino mode before, plus the convention version had more paint.
Still a good figure just not as great as I first thought

I really wish that tail didn't look so much like a pair of legs. And that the hands and legs were black or dark gray and the hips was red, especially given it's already using those colors elsewhere. Otherwise he looks marvelous, especially considering how cheaty of a design it's based on, though I'm hoping for a blue G2 repaint.

So I guess with Soundwave and Grimlock the "Generations = deluxe" thing is officially over.

Looks like he transforms backwards compared to G1 Grimlock - robot chest is the back of the dino, just slide down, dino head collapses forward, dino's rear toe is robot "thumb"...

Yeah, the dino tail looks weird, but I'd much rather have that than a scrawny robot. He's super badass and I can't wait to get him. I was just thinking you could swivel the dino arms upward more on his back to approximate the G1 look a little bit more if you wanted.

I'm undecided if I want to display him on my Classics or FoC shelf right now. I'm leaning more towards FoC because my Classics shelf is pretty full, but it seems silly to have the 'pre-Earth' version be smaller than the 'post-Earth' one.

OK so I'll say it. Pass.

The legs/tail are ginormous. The head is meh.

All I can say is that I am glad I have my Masterpiece Grimlock. It's unfortunate as I was really looking forward to this one.

Whoa! The Dino-thumb doesn't hinder him from holding the path blaster?

Now I'm sold. Can not wait to get Grimlock now.

Edit*
So I suppose the dino-head doesn't move, aside from the transformation and the jaw...

Still looking forward and hoping to obtain one. He's just badass.

It's all in the tail.

And by that, I mean that I'm pretty sure the reason FOC Grimlock is approximately the same size as Classics Grimlock in Dino mode is because the FOC tail actually transforms into part of the robot; the tail for Classics detaches and becomes a separate weapon.

I'm all over this guy. Hell, I'm going to get two. But I can't help but think Hasbro/Takara could have done a better job integrating the legs such that they folded into the empty belly and also provided a better proportioned tail. That said, I'm not bemoaning the tail, as some are, nor do I give two sh*ts about the backpack - I think it's integrated well. I just think that with a little tweaking, the Dino mode could have been as displayable as the robot mode.

For all those doubters, let me put it this way - the Sword, Shield, and Light-Up features alone have sold me on this guy!

:michaelbay:

Yes! Grimlock-gasm! :BOOM: :BOOM: :BOOM:

I noticed that too when I noticed the T-Rex heel is on top of his arm. But considering how he transforms in FoC with the T-Rex head flipping up from underneath him, it's perfectly fitting.

That's because they are a pair of legs.

And yet plenty on other TFs with legs that form a big part of the alt mode manage to actually disguise them.

Okay, seeing the tail from this new angle kills some of the love I had for this figure. I held on even when the paint was much less shiny because that's par for the course, but the tail...the tail just sucks. It bugs me because it wouldn't be that hard to make it better. Have the kneecaps do what it looks like the entire leg portion does: fold/slide down and up between modes. That way they'd be up on his hips in dino mode like they should be. Make the tail longer and the legs beefier by having the tail fold in half to form the legs. The tail could then be thinner and longer. And the thing that kills me inside is how visible the feet are in dino mode. It's painful. I'm still getting it, naturally, but I think my inner kid just got crushed by the cruel mistress of reality and small budget.
