Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci involved in Transformers: Prime

Posted by Dead Metal Feb 6, 2010 at 2:32pm CST 34,063 views
Seibertron.com members Sabrblade and Autobot032 inform us that the writers of Transformers The Movie (2007) and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are involved in the upcoming cartoon series "Transformers: Prime". But that#s not all as we now have confirmation of the series being CGI.
Kurtzman and Orci, who are working on a "Star Trek" sequel and the Daniel Craig starrer "Cowboys and Aliens" on the feature side, continue to serve as consulting producers on "Fringe" and are executive producers on CBS/CBS Studios' "Hawaii 5-0," which they co-wrote with Peter Lenkov, and on the "Transformers" CG-animated series for upcoming Hasbro/Discovery channel the Hub.

Star Trek Turned out awesome, ROTF... less so.

I suppose this could go either way, it all depends on the demographic they're aiming it towards.

Star Trek was ruined (for me at least) by some terrible plot holes, for instance the Black hole which randomly changes how it affects the things that go through it (one minute it destroys the things, the next it sends them back through time) and how is the mining ship able to destroy the federation ship at the beginning so easily? Yeah, sure, it's a lot more modern, but it's a MINING SHIP... (And whilst we're on the subject of that ship, although this is probably not the writer's fault, WTF was going on with that mining ship? The thing had *NO HULL*, just an assortment of random bits. How did they keep the atmosphere in?)

Also, both the TF movies were very poorly written, if you take the first half of the first one, and the second half of the second one, you *might* have managed an actually decent movie, but I doubt it.

Just keep in mind, folks, that the primary reason ROTF sucked as much as it did is because of Bay not keeping his mouth shut and going along with what these two had penned out. Everything that folks had grievances with regarding ROTF (the Twins being little punk-asses, the irritating and numerous crotch "jokes", Devy's anatomical correctness, etc.) was all Bays fault. These guys are TF fans who know their stuff, do actual research if they are unsure of a given TF point and are a hell of a lot more committed to preserving the integrity of the TF brand than Mikey ever will be. I say it's worth seeing what they come up with. Whatever it turns out to be, it will be better (or at least easier to sit through) than ROTF was. (and BTW, both of them are/were fairly steamed about how the scripts got butchered for both films which probably had a lot to do with them bailing on TF3)

My greatest hope is that with this new show being all CG that Discovery/Hasbro throw a LOT of money into the tech being used on it and go a level above what some of todays standard CG cartoons are which aren't much better than Beast Wars despite the advances in tech between then and now.

So the new series is going to be something like Cyberton/Galaxy Force.CG cartoons with big holes. In Cybertron there was a big black hole and in Prime there will be big plot holes..!

Funny, I thought they were talentless hacks who haven't really come up with an original idea of their own.

Star Trek? Pre-existing material.
Transformers? Pre-existing material.
Fringe? X-Files rip-off (and I like Fringe!)
Hawaii 5-0? Re-make!

So you'll forgive me if I think of them as nothing more than a pair of guys who just like cash being thrown at them to look back at something and re-make it for a modern audience.

The prequel comic explained how the Mining Ship was so powerful. Apparently Nemo upgraded it with Borg technology plus even though it might not look armoured it still would have 24th century shields which wouldve definately held out against 23rd century weapons. And about the whole black hole thing. Ships could always travel through time if the black hole was targeted at space instead of in a planet. No debris or crushing gravity well, A ships shields could protect it from the gravity effects. (supposedly anyway :P)

I second the whole Star Trek was ruined for me. While I would expect Transformers to be a wham bam thank you maam type of movie, I was expecting a lot more from Star Trek. There is something definitely missing from the latest Star Trek movie that some of the best previous Star Trek movies had - intelligence, thoughtfulness, to name a few. And yeah the time travel-parallel universe was completely hokey and retarded, especially since Star Trek has already stated that no parallel universes are created when altered. If they wanted to, they should have done a reboot instead of making some time travel-parallel universe excuse. And yeah the cadet to Captain of Flagship was just ridiculous.

hey, once Leonard Nimoy showed up and went "Nah dudes, its cool" i totally accepted the new star trek movie. it was Spock endorsed and approved, and thats good enough for me. Never argue with a Vulcan (even a half Vulcan)

I'm more let down by the CGI thing then those two being involved. Like it says, they are just involved. Doesn't mean they are flat out writing the thing. Producers probably wanted some ideas to get script, VAs, characters and such running.

Animated had decent animation, but I honestly thought they would go with a more mature look for the next show. Think the animation used for Green Lantern: First Flight or any of the DC Animated Movies. Or even whatever studio did Resolute. Feels like CG is a huge step backwards.

...AND it's CG TOO!

Man, I really hope it's not silly like animated and horrible CG like beast wars. Was really hoping for a more resolute style of animation.

Hmmmmmmm, while my initial reaction to this is to basically repeate N_V's...articulate response, with a side order of Burn, rereading it, if the sentence is grammatically accurate (could be a big *if*) they're only going to be executive producers of the show--as opposed to actual day to day writers.

Still, this is...displeasing news.

HK. crabby.

You see!! This is why I say...ANYBODY CAN WRITE OR MAKE MOVIES!!! ANYBODY CAN DO IT!!!!!!!! sigh...great...man it's taking 3, 3!!! F***ing movies for Bay to "say" he's going to do this and that. He as well as these writers should have done with the first two. It doesn't matter how good of a writer you are or director. If you don't know somebody in Hollywood, you'll never get into that inbred industry. I really hope they don't screw up the show. What next, we find out that Bay is directing the show.

Star Trek was a mess. The entire plot revolved around what can only be explained as "Spock drives too slow."

Seriously. They make some super ship- knowing full well planets are gonna get eaten by a supernova. Meanwhile the people on those planets choose not to evacuate.

Spock drives to the sun, and on the way "somehow" the Supernova happens anyway, (early. too fast? Spock too slow?).

Lazy writing like that ruined the entire movie- which makes me sad because all the actors were trying so hard.

Also something to note- stupid giant inflatable hands joke crept in there- which seems to be in keeping with the same dumb humor in Transformers- so it can't all be Bay's fault.

Not promising.

The title also makes me worried that this will be an "extreme" makeover for the TFs, with the word "Prime" just replacing "extreme."

Now I'm getting flashbacks to the commercials of G.I. Joe Extreme.
