Extensive Look at Power Core Combiners Sledge with Throttler

Posted by Blurrz Aug 31, 2010 at 3:27am CDT 33,083 views
Power Core Combiners might not be the hottest of the three toy lines out right now, but they still certainly have their fans. If you're Mini-con crazy you'll like this up close look at one of the Wave 2 Commander Packs, Sledge with Throttler. Sledge is a scout sized Backhoe, while Throttler acts as his drill. Does the combination of yellow and purple match, or does it crash and burn? Thanks to Ameba member Hinjaku and Seibertron.com member Kirbenvost, check out the images below!

I've seen him many many times in my area and he looks good i think for a PCC, but i just cant bring myself to buy any of the PCC or(kiddieformers) of this line. I'd rather buy the Genline stuff thats coming out...

I think it might look good next to my ActionMaster BB, or at least hiding out under my G1 Devastator.

He has a Buzzsaw running down his chest? Plus, he has those weird pincers on the side of his head. Reminds me of...

Gigan!

Seriously, I might get him because of that.

Well so much for real vechicle modes. I bet nobody can find a picture of this vechicle in real life. I have never seen a backhoe with a saw. I think that would be too dangerous to even be approved for production in the USA. I like this figure. But I hate those stupid blue things on the shoulders used to connect drones. Why must they be blue ??? Cant they match in color ???

As for comparisons, check out Sawtooth from the Starriors...

I really like the way this guy looks. Him and Icepick look like great figures. Curious though, the plates on the sides of the normal head, do they fold in? They look a bit strange like that.

My little boy picked this one up last weekend. Was trying to get him to choose the race car Autobot, but he went with Sledge. Pretty cool figure, I must admit. LOVE the commander head, as mentioned above.

@Flux Convoy, those plates stick up beside his head, as they're "hiding" his commander head at the back. Push those sides down and his commander head is exposed.

One problem I have with him (may be just mine), when in the combiner mode...the left leg doesn't seem to attach as snug as all of the other appendages. Anyone else with a similar issue?

Overall, pretty neat toy!

I hope I'll like this guy, he has a lot of awesomeness going on, but now that I see up close pics, there are few things I'm surprised and maybe a little saddened with.

First is his Mini-Con Throttler. All of wave 2 mini-cons had 4 advertised modes, as janky as they are. Throttler only appears to have 3, unless I missed something; Robot, Drill, Power-Up. Caliburst had a Vehicle Weapon, Robot Weapon (even though just a modified vehicle weapon), robot, and power-up. Same with the others. So it's only slightly heartbreaking if this guy only has 3, however, very superior looking transformations.

Second is the lack of 2nd head! Seriously, its not there; he has a 2nd FACE! Ingenious to save space or lazy? They both look great, and I guess in the end thats all that matters, but I really love seeing them reveal a brand new head in a secret compartment rather than just turn it around and go, OH THERE IT IS! At least they make an effort to hide it with those horns.

Third is his arms stick out in alt mode, very noticeable unfortunately.

Aside from this arguable gripes, he looks pretty fantastic. He looks very brute, similar to Mudslinger without looking like a clown. His commander head looks similar to Bombshock's head but upgraded.

These 2-packs are what keep me addicted to this line, they look better as commanders than the commanders in the 5 packs as well. Maybe the just took their weakest molds and threw them in as 5 packs so they might sell better? Seriously, Searchlight looks so much better with the Aerial Bots, Huffer with just about any of them, Smolder...ehhh okay, he's one exception (looks great by himself though). I'm really like Throttler, drill weapons rock.

If I were to pick this up, I would keep the commander head/face as the main face. Not a bad little scout.

It's a bad toy.

The panels on the sides holding the arms on are easily pulled off during transformation.

The face panels are a neat idea, but don't work well. See, it's supposed to work that when you open one face panel on one side, the other closes on the opposite side. Except, the gestalt face never really closes, so he's got another face on the back of his head.

The face panels are a soft plastic with LOTS of paint. This means they don't fit neatly into their compartments, so, the regular face isn't fully opened due to this.

Arg...it looks like it should be awesome, but somehow, just remains junky. It feels cheap, doesn't work exactly like it should, and comes apart easily.

I think those features should be listed on all the PCC figures from now on.

I'll keep buying them because I, am insane.

But you all shouldn't buy them. Buy something better. If your budget is limited, stay far away from the Power Core line. Every purchase will leave you feeling like you got screwed.

Well, I had pretty low expectations for Bombshock, and I turned out liking him a lot.

lol, I had no idea Sledge was out already, I thought he was still upcoming. oh well, still news I guess! :D

Oh, I just noticed how the head works. That's kinda disappointing, but it does still look cool. I like how the buckets go over his arms too.

As for the legs, I've noticed with my Bombshock that the pegs must not be as perfectly square as they should be, because I have trouble fitting them in the holes sometimes, until I rotate the peg 90 degrees. Maybe that could help with Sledge?

I'll give that a shot on the legs.

I'm really pleased with how much "fun" these PCCs are, in all honesty. For a collector, ehh...but for fun with my 6-year old son, oh yeah! He can even transform them himself, which makes him that much more "proud". ;)

That's cute. It'll be fun introducing my kids to transformers, if/when I decide to have them. :D And I agree about PCCs. Not the greatest TFs out there, but they are indeed fun.
