New Images of the Newly Announced Takara Godzilla X Transformers Crossover Figures

That Godzilla crossover hurts my feelings.

If Prime is supposed to be Kiryu then shouldn't he be a remolded Grimlock to actually look like Kiryu? I mean I guess I can see a generic army vehicle deco as a Godzilla collab, but what's the point?

And Megatron looks nothing like Godzilla! Using Studio Grimlock might have been the right call. He has the right stature. But you need to remold basically all of it. Or, if you gotta remold just one head, at least make it THE DINO HEAD!

Wow. This is like getting a wish off a monkey's paw. I can't believe a KO from years ago is better than this.

I think this was the wrong franchise to do on a budget like the SF ones. At a glance you can tell who the SF characters are. The recolors work, especially in the case of Arcee/Chun-li. Here ... we've got nothing. Grimlock looks absolutely nothing like Godzilla. Or even Mechagodzilla. He just looks like a black Grimlock.

If they wanted to do a Prime VS Godzilla set, but didn't want to give us two dinos just do Kong VS Godzilla. It's right there, guys. Base it on the original if you must.

It's been a while since I've been this disappointed with a set.

While I do like the decos for the figures themselves, I can't help to think they could have done a whole line of figures for a crossover from the Kingdom line; Rodan from Terrorsaur, Speiga from Blackarachnia, Baragon from Tazmania Kid, a King Ghidorah Megatron from Dragon Megatron, Godzilla Optimus from Kingdom Megatron, Anguirus from Rhinox, etc. There would have to be some remolding, but the potential is there. Even Megatron Mazer tank would've been nice. As you can guess from my handle on this page, I've been hoping for a crossover of these two properties for quite a while. This doesn't quite scratch the itch, but as I said further up I do like the colors on the molds. I just hope there's more in store.

They should have have gone with trypticon and brunts as the mazers. I know I picked up the pretty lack luster hot wheels monster truck Godzilla but happy to leave these be and spend money elsewhere. Likely in this case the other Takara tomy crossovers. Dang.

When a fan of both of the crossovers is going to avoid the figures, something is wrong and time to go back to the design board.

Now macross Tf is going to be interesting unless they use the top gun plane zoids prime insta buy.

Zoids spiderman is really nice to have decades after the comics and the red costume/zoid looks like it would be at home in Sentai spiderman. Zoids Patlabor is likely getting spent on too.

T-Spark Shield D Prime - I love this! Diaclone is definitely an after thought here, I'm sure this is something Takara Tomy had designed long ago and just been waiting for the right opportunity to arrive (probably why he looks like Leobreaker). Really excited for this one!

Godzilla junk - Another Takara Tomy cash grab where they literally slap a log on existing figures with a new coat of paint. It's also weird that they chose to give a Megatron x Godzilla figure the most placid facial expression this side of the Lost Light. He should be full of rage not looking like he's trying to read the menu at McDonalds from the back of the line. Sadly I'll be getting both of these because I'm a mold completionist and l like both of these molds so I'm the problem...

Macross 7 - This feels weird to me since these already have bot modes. Here's what the VF-19 looks like, it's nothing like the silhouette which means they're probably just repainting an existing figure (heavily retooled Legacy Needlenose maybe). Might get it, gotta see it first.




Monster - No idea, probably going to be a transforming Rathalos. I haven't touched the series since the first game on the PS2 so I may pass, but a transforming dragon toy would be hard to pass up no matter what franchise it's attached to.

The Zoids one looks pretty cool. I'll have to see the price.

I guess jury's out on what the Macross one will be. A Jetfire homage? Yet another Optimus prime redeco? It's hard to feel too excited for these yet; I don't have much connection to the properties.

The Optimus is an easy pass.

They could have made an effort to make some heavy remoldings on that "Godzilla". As it is, it's just Megatron cosplaying as Grimlock. Still, I really, really like it if I just conveniently ignore the "Godzilla" name.

As for the TransZoidClone, at least he's original.

OK… The Godzilla crossover is pretty disappointing.

But dear God, I think I NEED that Shield Liger Prime!

Grimlock is the perfect base for Godzilla. But the legs and arms should have been remolded to be much thicker, the tail should have been longer, a new dino head, plus the dorsal fins are missing. The remoldings on the bot are nice, but there's zero efforts on the dino.

That's why for me, that's just "Beast Megatron, G1 style."

I'll stop you right there because after reading Takara's blurb on this set, turns out he isn't supposed to be Kiryu, he is supposed to be Optimus Prime. Same with Megatron. They are their transformers selves, but have taken looks and powers from Godzilla lore.

My two favorite franchises meeting. Yet sadly, I have no interest in this. Its nice for what it is but.... I doubt they'd ever do so, but if they made an all new original toy that was Godzilla that transformed into some ort of robot, THAT might get my attention.

Until then, i can enjoy things like this.

Yeah, I read what it's supposed to be. OP and Megs scanned the characters and gained their powers. Whatever.

It's just an excuse. It's a blurb to sell their product. Sometimes it can help elevate a product, but in the end the product is the product. It's just a true disappointment.

If the robot mode chest on that Megatron was silver, it would look so much better. Even so, I might have to pick this up just for the black t-rex mode. Pass on Prime and all the others.

I think it's worth a buy regardless but I question the decision surrounding it. The robot mode head would have been fine staying the same but I believe a remolded dino head would have went a long way toward creating a look that resembles Godzilla. I actually like the Laser Prime deco.


And finally a Zoids crossover. It's like my head canon coming to life.

Knowing that they're just getting powers inspired by the Godzilla monsters it makes even less sense for Megatron to be a Grimlock retool. I know the Siege tank mold is long over used, but I still would have loved the tank in those colors, like a full tank version of Miner Megatron.

To use Grimlock he needs the necessary changes to make him work fully IMO. I also was wondering why they didn't just downsize Trypticon and used him instead considering he's more based on Godzilla than Grimlock. Plus isn't Godzilla a good guy according to Toho? I know he was an antagonist for a few of the earlier films, but generally he's considered a protagonist in the others.

I'm not sure spine add-ons are possible, but a new head certainly is! That alone would help immensely. Maybe new arms as well? I've never tried to pry the arms off my Studio Grimmy before.

I'd have been fine with a Transformerized-Godzilla if they couldn't do a literal transforming Godzilla or Mechagodzilla for legal or licensing reasons. The digibashes are pretty good! So much better than what we're getting.

The Optimus Prime/Diaclone/Zoids figure is the highlight here for me, that thing looks SICK

Back in August we got our first look at the T-Spark Synergenex line featuring a Transformers crossover with Godzilla. A few months later and pre-orders are now here! Now, this line didn't have a great reception when it was first announced but there has been at least a little interest in seeing Studio Series Grimlock slightly retooled into a Megatron cosplaying as a discount Godzilla while the other is a very gray Legacy Laser Optimus Prime repaint. But the good news is these are actually fairly cheap, all things considered. Both figures are sold at the Japanese retail price of 9,350 JPY, but Amazon Japan is pricing them tentatively at 8,603 JPY which about the price of a Hasbro Leader at around $56 USD. And like I said, that's tentative, Amazon hasn't reduced the price yet, which is good because you're still going to be charged for shipping. The good news there is that both figures are being released on May 31 in Japan so you can split the shipping on the two and save a little over having to ship them at different months if you choose to go this route.

Here are the Amazon Japan pre-orders, but they'll be available basically everywhere in Japan since these aren't exclusives.

Just wanting the prime for some weird reason, but not at full price with the amount of times I have skipped on the original version for less than half price. Never saw toxitron in stores here but even that can be found half price in euros.

Yeah, the only thing his T-rex mode sort of reminds me of is Device Label Trypticon.

And his bot mode head looks like he's starting to get irritated about it.

I'm getting all the SS86 Dinobot repaints. So that Megs is a sure get for me. As long that I don't have to import it, that is.

Despite the fact that it is not a "genuine" X-over figure, I head-canon that Megs as Grimlock cosplaying as Megatron who cosplay as Godzilla.

Here's what's really weird about the shipping. Megatron and Optimus were around 4,500 each (I don't remember the exact price, they've now sold out) and together they were like 7,500. However, I also added T-Spark Toyrise Bravern to my order which on its own had around the same shipping price, but added to the other two the total shipping for all three was 8,835 and that figure comes out two months later! Really doesn't make any sense.
